To be fair Moro isn't the first space wizard in the franchise, Dragon Ball went down that path when Naruto was still a half-formed idea for a manga about ninjas in the back of Masashi Kishimoto's head. I think videl getting her shit kicked in was actually good, it was a good use of subversion for the show, because you just assumed that she'd be able to beat spopo, instead she got brutalized. It really themed the arc.

Kale and caulifla are basically mary sues in comparison to videl, they never had to learn shit, they're basically super saiyan godmode for literally nothing and can only be beaten by the guy with protagonist syndrome.

She was never really able to BE a fighter, most humans get left in the dust in DBZ. Android 18 was the only person who could keep up, and surprise surprise, she's still a fighter. The power levels are just way too ridiculous at this point for a human like videl to be a proper fighter like that

They're all about piccolo level, they were all major, longtime players and have lots of experience. They're super underpowered too, and would like to see more development with the characters. It sucks, but they're only really in it because it would be impossible to exclude them at this point

Before the tournament the closest thing Videl had to a real fight was the criminals she beats up. Like her dad, she was legitimately strong for a normal human with no ki abilities but against an opponent with superhuman power she's hopelessly outclassed.

Using the potara was banned because of the rule against weapons/items but was allowed because "it's neat". The fusion dance wouldn't be banned at all because the only requirement is being willing To make silly poses like those Ginyu poofs.

That means Gohan can only be important in some jobber fight nobody cares about and any and all character development he experiences get set all the way back because the plot says Goku and Vegeta must be important.

Yup, current story arc is Babidi Majinizing a bunch of people (not just fighters, spectators, audience members, even some of the Vargas) but it keeps getting interrupted by flashback chapters. The one with Zen Buu granting wishes was fun though.
