Ironically updating to the latest version later worked out just fine, so much for stability of older drivers.

Is it nostalgia goggles or are maps and mission diversity in 5 worse than in 4.1?
I remember 4.1 being a theme park of nip urban/suburban/industrial/rural areas with little regard to gameplay (could be intentionally made difficult to navigate and traverse), while in 5 every mission feels like a "balanced esports arena" with varying density of samey nip/euro urban decorations.

Try:
>Power lances. They're a bit weak now, but they shine on higher difficulties, and they're the absolute best budget energy weapon in the game.
>Mag blaster/Destroyer Blaster. Good for a few blasts if you unexpectedly hit zero energy. Won't carry you as a main weapon, but it will keep you alive when you need it most.
>Thunder Crossbow. Not my cup of tea, but it's a nice balanced ranged weapon, and it's cheap on energy.
>Phalanx. This weapon class is straight up the best DPS in the game. Ideal for destroying objectives/aliens/teammates instantly.
Avoid:
>Geist. Until you know how to use it well, it's a huge liability.
>Thunder cluster: more like thunder clusterfuck. This thing sucks hard.
>Closed laser and monster. You REALLY don't need to snipe as wingdiver, except for two (2) levels in the whole game. Except in those two missions, you should be using anything else. Monster is high damage, high cost, closed laser is low damage low cost, and both of those are just mediocre.

If you're using dragoon lance you can straight up kill all frogs and greys before your teammates get to a single one, on some levels. The higher leveled ones can single headshot frogs and two shot greys (one for helmet, one for head) and three shot elite greys (two for helmet).

Monster series have very good ranged dps (dpe) but really there are very few missions that require long range single target non-aoe damage.
Geists are fucking great when you are used to precisely measuring number of shots per target or (and) when your team knows you are more dangerous than a drunk air raider and agree to tolerate it.

Also try Gleipnir or whatever the automatic homing launcher ball is, each shot does not deal that much damage but they can stunlock a large area.

Why would they do that?

Does anyone know how Power Post/Power Gun works? I've done a little testing and so far it doesn't seem to work at all on Bulge Laser or Tempest.

How many shield bearer missions are there in the main game anyway, four? Between all the enormous buffs, the lack of shield niggers and the total removal of earth eaters and "support is not available :^)" bullshit missions from 4.1, being an AR is just an absolute cakewalk in comparison.

So many wing divers in multi do this. Most I can do is shoot a limpet or a beacon for an airstrike and I'm back down. Turrets have an amazingly long animation and delay-until-deployable when you're inches from death.
Just keep kiting and thinning out the horde, get the downed people up later.

Good AR would nuke himself with the swarm in the few frames he is alive, but be sure to discuss this "tactic" beforehand

Remember that skull icons mean that you have an AVAILABLE POWERUP that will distract enemies for approximately 5 seconds in exchange for 50% of your current HP.

Counter point to this, sometimes if you have a good AR or you're communicating it's a good idea to revive them. Was playing with a Fencer and he was kiting a massive group around the map on 107 inferno, I was down.

Told him to rez me and I would drop my vehicle and all my AoE before I died. I was able to kill just about everything that was chasing him plus had my vehicle up for the next time he came around to rez me.
