PC is preferable if you aren't going to own a Switch any time soon. Otherwise Switch is simply better unless you're judging a JRPG entirely by its 3d graphics.

Graphics are excellent with the unreal engine and supports high frame rate. Highly recommend.
You can also easily swap in the orchestral soundtrack.

Only reason I'd be interested in the Switch version is if they fix 3rd act which we still have to see

Because they spent 20 years pretending it didn't exist in the west. It takes time to rebuild a brand after you neglect it, especially when there's nothing that would immediately grab new consumers.

We've known about the Switch version for as long as we've known about the console itself. This is only a surprise if you don't follow video games at all.
Of course Nintendo will pay to make their version the best when it comes out a year (or two) after the other versions for other consoles. They're trying to sell a game. If it wasn't for Nintendo, we wouldn't get these extras at all.

The amount of people i know who bought this and never finished it is very telling, its a slog of a game that goes on for too long.

When did these twenty years range?

As I recall the only gap was between Dragon Warrior I-IV which on the NES in 1990 and Dragon Warrior Monsters in 2000, which by my calculation is just ten years.

We only missed out on the SNES era with V and VI, and hell no one misses VI. We got VII, we got an improved version of VIII, we got IX, we didn't get the MMO but who the fuck cares about MMOs, and we got XI. I'm just not seeing this 20 years of neglect you're pretending exists.

We knew this would happen long before the PS4 version came out. You only have yourself to blame for not researching before buying.

Not sure why you're pretending a game being translated is the same as doing a good job marketing it in that language. Other than the moderate blip for VIII and some Seth Green ads, the series may as well not have existed in public consciousness after IV.

That reminds me all of the other times Nintendo tried to sell DQ in the west. For example: the remakes of 4, 5, and 6 for the DS, DQ 9, the remake of 7 on 3DS and the release of 8 also on 3DS. Strangely all of those releases were licensed (in the west) by Nintendo.
For some reason they want DQ to do good in the west. I wonder why.

Face it, Square doesn't market DQ at all in the west. Nintendo does the heavy lifting ONCE and suddenly the game is mainstream. The potential was always there, but Square didn't put in the legwork.

Sounds like you both completely missed the 2000s. Hell VIII was way bigger than XI is right now. The west just doesn't give a fuck a Dragon Quest game comes out and then it's back to square one, VIII was huge and then IX was basically a flop, on the fucking DS no less, where did all those fans go?

I played the game when it was new, so no. It was a significant JRPG; hence 'moderate blip'. It didn't sell FF numbers and it quite obviously didn't create a permanent branding impression that pushed lots of copies of later games or encouraged Square not to be faggots about the series.

If you bought the game on PC, you did support it.
The next game is probably coming to PC, too. This was a case of timing. Had the Switch version come out at the same time as PS4, we would probably not have any extra content, maybe just 2D mode. Alas it comes out later, so they'll add stuff to it to make it attractive.
If you thought for one second that the extra Switch-exclusive content (which was funded by Nintendo) would make its way to PC, then you will be disappointed.

I wouldn't argue that its been 20 years but its true that SE neglects DQ in the west, I would love to have played the newest DQ Monsters Joker, many of the monster designs are just so plan nice that I wish I could keep them in a party. not to mention some of them give me puff puff.
