Because it's not. You have to backtrack for items when you get the necessary equipment, and make choices that determine where you end up later in the game.

It's less linear than fucking Super Metroid, but it's unlikely you ever found out that there was an alternate path/levels.

This took me like a minute to understand it, and I finally get it, but dear lord this chart is ass to read.

I like Metroidvanias as a genre but the actual Metroidvania Castlevania games don't do much for me compared to the traditional Castlevanias.

Literally the only things you backtrack for are mushroom badge and spur, and technically whimsical star if you want 100% items. It’s definitely more linear than super metroid.

The problem with your chart is that two points on both axis are labelled the same. You have "Porn", then you have "Softcore porn" and "Hardcore porn". Additionally, "basically nothing" is pointless as a point of reference even after you figure out what it means.

Remove the "basically nothing", or if you feel you HAVE to keep it there, write something like "fully and modestly clothed". Then replace softcore porn with "Sexual intercourse, no penetration or genitalia shown", and hardcore as "Penetration or genitalia shown".

If you don't like how wordy I wrote them, fix it yourself.

SotN has the most broken gameplay in the entire franchise. The developers simply gave no fucks about balance.

Why the hell would you care about balance in a single player game? If you want difficulty and not be broken, there's a lot of room for self imposed challenges.

Somebody make a room and I'll join it, be wary that the hell mode has a couple of new item rewards.

One of them being shoes that increase damage the longer you hop on something.

I can't say how the game was for you, I felt it was more of an experience with the amazing visuals and ost, the gameplay was fun albeit not a challenge. Overall a brilliant entry level game into the castlevania series.

A challenging game keeps you on the edge of your seat, you never know if you’re going to make it alive or not. This is what is known as thrill, something games like SotN and Super Metroid do not produce.

I do not have to look for a way that make the game thrilling. The developers should have done it themselves. You can fun fun with a piss easy game by doing minimalist runs or whatever, but that’s your merit and not the developer’s. Games like these should not be rated highly in my opinion.

If challenge is all you value on a game then sure, but not everything is to be seen with the same standards. Games like Super Metroid and SOTN can be played in a lot of ways, including finding the most optimal way to finish them, and that's one of the reason people like them for.

Thrill or challenge isn't the only criteria to rate games you know. Then games which rely on visuals and audio rather than gameplay should be considered as shit as per your view.

God I remember when the HoD unity jank port was introduced in Yea Forums, it had full servers and it was so much fun.
Now its empty, decrepit and if I am right abandoned because of Konami's cease and desist or the dev just gave up. Things never last.
