It appears that everyone on Yea Forums is a Cyberpunk expert now. Of course you are, after watching the bladerunner movies. You just "know" how cyberpunk should look like. Fuck the creator.
Where my cyberpunk experts at? Oh right, EVERYWHERE apparently.
Why are people suddenly Cyberpunk's experts?

without noir, cyberpunk is an aesthetic
Duh.
Same crowd were gothic horror experts when Diablo 3 came out.
>you’ll buy this shit and you will like it! No complaints! Say thank you!
What's it supposed to be with* noir?
this sounds gay us fuck but it's literally a boomer vs zoomer thing.
Yep this looks like a good cyberpunk setting
Totally not generic garbage
It's a vs between people like me who've read cyberpunk literature and know the genre is defined by themes vs people who watched BR and derivative works and think it's about neon, night and rain.
You'd be OK with it if it was night and there was a big neon sign on the mall.
It’s not that people are experts but the issue is many people whose only exposure is through visual mediums interpret cyberpunk as a purely aesthetic style.
And there is an aesthetic style that’s consistent across many cyberpunk media but there has also been many thematic and plot aspects to cyberpunk the same way you’d find in the noir or romance genre.
>watches blade runner once
>"i'm a cyberpunk expert now"
That’s only really Blade Runner
Neuromancer and snow crash and Johnny mnemonic and transmetropolitan aren’t necessarily noir stories (you can argue transmetropolitan has some noir elements though)
It’s literally obviously not using the cyberpunk aesthetic. Anyone who says otherwise has an agenda
Blade Runner looks better than this shit. Stay seething shill
I only come to Yea Forums to see if any games being discussed catch my eye, and for 2077 threads. I was into cyberpunk before this website existed.
It does
A desolate and abandoned social institution representing the abandonment of old culture due to technological advancement is a staple feature of cyberpunk settinfs
The irony is that Blade Runner is more neo-noir than cyberpunk. Keep coping, faggot.
That's only if your definition of noir is the soi one, involving fedoras, long jackets, smokey bars, and jazz music.
>game where you can shoot people in first-person has a vague resemblance to a first-person shooter game in one screenshot
Oh shit, stop the presses. You might be onto something here.
The irony is that Cyberpunk 2077 literally looks like GTA and there’s nothing you can do about it
The irony is I don't give a fuck, I'll enjoy the game either way and you can't do anything to convince me otherwise. Faggot.
The irony of it is that all I ever wanted was GTA + Deus Ex.
Well this isn’t it, its just GTA.
>It does
>A desolate and abandoned social institution representing the abandonment of old culture due to technological advancement is a staple feature of cyberpunk settinfs
Don't bother the people you're arguing with are literally less intelligent than a normal member of society.
I've consumed a lot of cyberpunk media, not just Blade Runner.
With shit like the whole sunlight thing, the big point is that in cyberpunk, you normally contrast the clean, corporate-owned daytime with the dirty synthy underground nighttime. In 2077's trailer, they decided that they'd focus on the daytime and make it look like a kind of grungy California city instead of the sterile "utopia" the corpos want to sell you, thus defeating the point. Like literally the most iconic scene in GitS is contrasting light and darkness, as a criminal tries to flee across Purgatory to the safety of the light.
One of my English teachers in uni, he was kind of a hack, but he had this great little bit that I think someone else wrote about how the role of a private detective is to straddle the underworld and the real world for his clients, who somehow end up involved in a world they can't deal with. I thought that was a pretty good take on things, and I think it's applicable to cyberpunk as well.
More importantly though you shouldn't support Cyberpunk 2077 anyways because WotC murdered an actually good game, Android:Netrunner by FFG, so that they could try and sell the card game rights to CDPR to make a Gwent clone, and so people googling "Netrunner" wouldn't see a small card game by their competition instead of this big AAA game they probably got paid a bundle for.
Yes
And they have shown nothing like that in the gameplay so far
The picture looks like it was picked because they're showing the whole destruction of the society as we know it. In a game like GTA, the mall would be functioning and filled with people but in a cyberpunk world, its wasted.
They're trying to show how the whole happy middle class lifestyle capitalism advocates for has fallen apart. Now there's just super poor people trying to scrape a living and super rich people exploiting the masses.
My guess is, the point of this part of the game is to poke fun at the societal changes between the present and the dark future.
But yeah, I get your point. There's a lot of other games out there that have way better designs and aethetics. Indie games like Ruiner and Valhalla have a better cyberpunk feel than this and they have way lower budgets.
>Yes
That's because you don't know anything about cyberpunk.
I'll never forgive WotC for killing off ANR, but do you have any proof for that?
And? I don’t care about “muh griddy punk” BorderlandsPunk or CaliforniaPunk at all. I want aesthetics and atmosphere.
>*enemy UAV online*
Anybody else hear that when first seeing this screenshot
Cope
No, no proof. I'm just making a guess. The only real fact is that WotC unilaterally revoked the license with no room for discussion, which is already bad enough.
It could just be that they didn't want to keep licensing to their competitor. Suits could have gone YO what are we doing? These guys are taking our market share, stop that. That's possible. I think it'd already be reasonable for them to do that, from a business standpoint.
But given the timing, I think it's just too convenient that they suddenly revoked the license with no negotiation given that a game using the original card game's setting was releasing, and that the developer of that game had previously made a card game for their previous big AAA game.
This superhot/mirror edge ripoff is more cyberpunk than CP2077
youtube.com
literally nobody cares about some literally who nigger that created some shitty cyberpunk board game
>It could just be that they didn't want to keep licensing to their competitor
I guarantee it was that. I don't think WotC foresaw the game becoming as popular as it actually did. It was never going to be a full-scale competitor to M:tG, but any loss of market share is a bad thing in their eyes. M:tG has been going through plenty of drama, to boot.
>pic unrelated.
The big thing was that it was unilateral. There were no negotiations, period. It just seems so weird. Like, if you foresee A:NR is going to steal 3% of your $300m market share, then ask for $20m for the license. You make your money back and then some even if the game manages to make waves (which it wouldn't, so it's free money).
To me, the only reason why they wouldn't even bother trying to strong-arm FFG, wouldn't even ask for an exorbitant sum of money, is that they'd already been in negotiations with a different company and promised the rights to them. So a negotiation with FFG would be a waste of time, because, say, CDPR, had already promised them $200m for the Netrunner license, which was more than FFG would ever be capable of paying, and WotC had agreed, so negotiating with another company would be in bad faith and CDPR might not like it.
Well, we'll know for certain when C2077 actually comes out. If there's a Netrunner card game in it I'm raising the mother of all shitstorms. You ain't ever seen a Yea Forums autist like me.
"Why did I move here? I guess it was the weather"
cyberpunk 2077 looks like a shitty game running on estrogen enriched piss
REMASTER FAR CRY BLOOD DRAGON
>Android:Netrunner
You do realize Netrunner was originally a Cyberpunk 2020 CCG in the 90s, right?
>You just "know" how cyberpunk should look like. Fuck the creator.
I know right? So annoying...
Yes, obviously. That's why I mentioned WotC murdering ANR by revoking the license.
Cool, so when are you leaving?
Welcome to the modern internet, where everyone thinks they're an expert on everything and that their opinions matter.
OH NO NO NO NO
where are the
>t-the sun is fine! y-you don't know cyberpunk!
fags now?
>Deus Ex Human Revolution and Mankind Divided both have an extremely uncyberpunk aesthetic
>Yea Forums praises it and sucks it off.
>Cyberpunk 2077 has a clear Cyberpunk aesthetic daylight and apocalyptic outskirts notwithstanding.
>Yea Forums trashes it.
Epic.
Eat a dick
it's all about dystopia and shit, man you can FEEL the cyberpunkiness when you look at these images with your eyes closed
t. one day old cyberpunk expert
Except it is given that you can augment yourself to affect how you solve quests and overcome obstacles like in DX
I still need an explanation on why HR and MD are so fucking praised when the first Deus Ex does everything better in terms of Cyberpunk.
Prove me fucking wrong, faggot. I don't give a rat's ass about Cyberpunk 2077, I just want a fucking answer on why trash like MD and HR are so fucking praised.
>t. didn't read any of the books
But please, try going for that "muh bladerunner" strawman, it's working great for you
Also see
It's painfully obvious that you don't actually read any of the books
best-sci-fi-books.com
Or any other listing of books from cyberpunk genre and go through the previews and reviews before you try to shitpost.
MD was kinda trash, HR was absolutely fantastic both thematically and graphically. The original DX aged like milk and was way too wound up in crazy conspiracy theories. Sure, that bit about government control and false flags was fantastic, but then you find yourself fighting the greys in area 51.
Original DX had too much classic scifi to it. HR was pure cyberpunk.
So, once again the cdpr fanboys had no clue what they were talking about and got btfo.
d3 was definitely a major departure from the gothic horror aesthetic that came to define diablo, though.
reddit the game
>has a clear Cyberpunk aesthetic
Where?
>HR was absolutely fantastic both thematically and graphically.
Graphically? Sure. Thematically? Fuck no. The game makes no sense in the context of it's timeline and it's fucking themes only focused upon transhumanism and police control and that's about fucking it.
>The original DX aged like milk and was way too wound up in crazy conspiracy theories.
Because it took inspiration from X-Files. I'd argue it did a good job at portraying them rather realistically though. Even still, it portrayed a rather realistic depiction of a close future Cyberpunk
>Sure, that bit about government control and false flags was fantastic,
There's way more of that in the game, it takes up most of the game.
>but then you find yourself fighting the greys in area 51.
Most of the Greys are heavily implied to just be genetically engineered Monkeys. They aren't actual aliens, that's why they are mindless.
>Original DX had too much classic scifi to it. HR was pure cyberpunk.
Bullshit.
HR's aesthetics were a bizarre schizo Sci-fi Rennaisance era that looked more like futuristic sci-fi than Cyberpunk and look dated rather quickly. It's themes just focused on Transhumanism and Police Control and that's all she fucking wrote. Conspiracies are barely touched upon and the Icarus theme goes fucking nowhere. And the AI is an AI that barely plays a role in the grand scheme of things. The few interesting concepts like a spy within the Illuminati is barely touched upon and the Knight Templars are completely forgotten.
Not to mention we are somehow lead to expect that HR takes place in the 2020s-2030s when most of the fucking cities look like some kind of French Futurism art museum?
Also how the fuck did DX1 have too much classic sci-fi? Did you play the actual game? Other than some dumb shit like the plasma gun (even then it's a clear experimental weapon that's flawed as fuck) it is pure Cyberpunk in atmosphere, art direction and themes.
tl;dr cybertranny LMAO
>pseudo-renaissance fashion trends amongst the upper and middle classes that die out in a few years are less realistic and cyberpunk than Majestic 12 being real and you having to fight off aliens in Area 51
>somehow the latter is supposed to be cyberpunk
>cyberPUNK
ok kid.
Did you read my post? I didn't mention Cyberpunk 2077 anywhere in it? Or did you ignore the part where I mentioned I gave no fucks about 2077 and just wanted to bait people to explain why the fuck they thought HR and MD are that fucking good when DX1 is clearly superior?
The absolute state of Transhumanist Redditors who think that HR's retarded Renaissance design looks.
>A feminist wearing modern expensive clothing with a bookshelf and modern looking office building next to a futuristic looking computer is Cyberpunk
Woah...
Epic.
>snow crash isn't Noir.
It's more Noir than your melanoma levels, you fucking nigger.
>Game's documents that the aliens aren't aliens
>Insist that the aliens are aliens
Yeah fuck off with that argument. Are you seriously going to tell me that fighting against a world Government and capitalistic fat cats isn't Cyberpunk? Because that's been there since Neuromancer
>Majestic 12 being real is a problem
Nigger Majestic 12 is real in your precious HR and MD games too. Why the fuck are you using that as a counter-argument?
>pseudo-renaissance fashion trends amongst the upper and middle classes that die out in a few years
Explain to me why the fuck most of the lower class also wears that some fucking clothing then? If the game wanted to make a stance about economical classes they fucking failed at it when 80% of the game has that fucking aesthetic and there's no clear division between social classes unlike DX1
Also admit it. HR's retarded "augmented zombies that lead to techno-racism" is a thousand times more retarded than pseudo mutant aliens being a thing.
