Falco is honestly not that great of a character, it's the player that's just really good. Light is really good too but sometimes you get these dudes that can take a mid tier to the top.
Everything about Falco, some other character can just do it better. Falco can jump higher than any other character? Not really that big of a deal, look at how fucking high he was on Town and City when he did that up air and still didn't kill him.
Needs some sort of buff still, though there are much shittier characters that deserve it.

I was sort of a casual competitor in melee before I started playing more fgs, I went to 1 major early smash 4 era, and it's unreal how retarded some smashfags are especially with regards to top players. It's basically the fighting game of choice for the social media gamer (not wordfilter)/esports culture crowd ie. they are more interested in the idea of being a super smash bros player and talking about it than actually playing the game, and constantly do shit like walk up to top players during sets and try to ask them for pictures and shit while they're in the middle of a game. It's not that all smashfags are bad but the difference between smash and something like the guilty gear community is that while at a guilty gear tournament the 0-2 and 1-2 players are likely somewhat competent at playing their character and have grinded a decent amount, the smash community has a lot of fat that barely plays and are not even "best out of their group of friends" tier yet want to be involved in the community.

I get both sides. Here's the deal: games with LOTS of characters that are balanced are pretty much 100% fine. It gets dicey when the game is setplay-oriented because it becomes stupidly hard to get consistent results as experience against gimmicks becomes increasingly important over fundamentals. I'm in no way, shape, or form saying this is the case for Ultimate (it was closer to being true for Smash 4 if Bayo/Cloud didn't overshadow other gimmick flowchart doodoo). Ultimate would circumvent this a lot if movement options were a bit more refined and SDI wasn't gimped. Leffen is a whiny bitch who still would lose in Ultimate, though.

Levin sword aerials are fine but sometimes the game decides to have you use bronze sword instead, which is significantly weaker. Its not something that happens all that often but it can be infuriating when it does as it can mean the difference between a knock out or not.

Marth is the most fun of them to use in Ultimate just because he feels the most challenging to use. Chrom/Lucina just feel weird when you get an obviously bad hitbox but it's still "sweetspot". Honestly, Marth just needs a few minor tweaks and he would be fine. Right now he lacks a good way to snag people hanging from ledge (or on ground, jab is fucking horrible and the tipper on his dtilt is absurdly bad). If they let fsmash hit below ledge barely and let dtilt->dash confirm into a tip he would be pretty menacing without being a gimmicky mess. Dancing blade is also borked and having to do > > V > just to make someone not fall out is just bad.

But now for whatever reason, setting the C-stick to Tilt attacks (like most players do) will forbid Robin from using her Levin Sword in the Air unless performing manually a smash attack in the air.

It's retarded. Nobody knows why it's a thing (why on earth would you want to use the bronze sword instead of the levin sword to begin with) and it's most likely never going to get fixed. It forces Robin players to either play with C-stick Smash attacks on; or to have to be extra-careful every single time they want to input an Aerial.

Smash was never meant to be competitive, but Melee changed that perspective for everyone.

It's time to be completely honest, Smash 4 is better.

Sm4sh's major issue was the atrocious balance between characters. Everything else on the side (at least when it comes to gameplay, not content) was fine as it was. The game at the very least, reacted in time with whatever inputs you gave it instead of making your character stand idle and eating your inputs.
Sm4sh was way too focused on defensive play.... but they only made it worse by rewarding projectiles and multi-hit attacks so much in Ultimate.

basically, if Sm4sh had Ultimate's balance and improvements; it'd be way less of a shitty game. I had hoped that Ultimate would be an improvement over Sm4sh but instead it's more or less the same shit but with even less options for smart play/workarounds. There's nothing fun at gambling on wether your character is going to move the next time you explicitly tell it to move.

Melee is clearly the most fun game in the series. With Brawl far behind as the second if and only if you restrict the roster to the fun characters (Falco, Marth, Snake, ZSS, etc), then Ultimate, 64, Brawl with the entire roster and at last Smash 4.

I feel like the biggest problems with Ultimate are that it didn't improve enough from Smash 4 (Come on, faggots. It's clearly using a good 70% of its mechanics, engine, everything) and the roster is simply too big to expect proper top level play.
