user the dust hasn't settled yet we should wait before making such an assessment

The soulless soul
How old does a game need to be to have soul? Does a game having a sequel automatically make the older games have soul?
Skyrim has soul, but it has that Bethesda-bugged kind of soul that upsets people.
new games can have soul
soul just implies effort/passion in place of AAA shiny graphics and soulless cashgrabbery
No, there's plenty of old games that lack soul, just like modern ones can have soul
It ain't called Jeremy Soule for nothing
We need to work out what age has the most soul attachment (maybe 8-14) then work out which age nostalgia becomes a dominant mental state
Considering those are arguments you have to make when you have no legit reason neither.
Jank, Heart, and Art direction are also meaningless descriptors.
Yeah, I'm thinking it has soul.
The visuals are soulful but the writing and quests are the literal definition of anemic, empty, SOULESS
Why are there still daily threads that hit the bump limit discussing its plot, then?
>two voice actors
>given to them in alphabetical order so it's stilted as fuck
Here is soul

Soulful soundtrack.
Soulless everything else.
This, it's just still missing some things but if you add some minor mods, for example, adding improved lighting mechanics and more realistic torches/lights in dungeons, then it becomes pretty great m8. Shame the combat is still gayballs tho.
Never let facts stand in the way of a good argument user.
If something exists that disputes your point ignore it.
Soul one of my favorites games
>hate New Game Bad fags
>got to see Halo and Skyrim become nostalgic
Fuck yeah getting old is based
>Its another Stormcloak vs Imperial meme thread
Nobody ever discusses anything from Skyrim its just the same 2 threads
WAS IT SOUL? WAS IT KINO?
or
STORMCLOAKS VS IMPERIALS WHICH ONE V?
Skyrim is soulless and this is from someone who played it as a kid when it came out.
Skyrim is soulful and this is from someone who played it last year.
Soulless, but modders know how to artificially inject soul into it
>Terrible combat
>Terrible quest/dungeon design
>Awful enemies
>Terrible writing
Vs
>Good art direction that conveys a Swords & Sorcery type setting
>Amazing OST
That's pretty much it. Even the towns felt tiny as fuck and artificial. I want to like Skyrim, but the problems literally cannot be fixed.
>Why are there still daily threads that hit the bump limit discussing its plot, then?
WHY DID YOU JUST MAKE ME LOOK LIKE A RETARD user IN FRONT OF ALL OF THESE PEOPLE BY DISMISSING MY UNWARRANTED OUTSPOKEN UNPOPULAR OPINION
to this day the fact that skyrim has no spears bothers me.
i literally can not play the game because of this
Mods took fucking ages to get non-sword anim spears too
Imperials or stormcloacks?
For me imperials
Soul with the right mods.
Huddling up next to a fire to avoid freezing to death in the mountains is surprisingly atmospheric
goal-less
perfect dark was the most impressive shooter of that console generation. I played like 100hrs of multiplayer with just these bots in suits that I named after the ff7 turks on the parking garage map
Neither. They're both assholes.
>literally cannot be fixed
mods
Modding capabilities make it soulful in my opinion since you can custom tailor the game into just about anything you want
Art direction is definitely not meaningless
boring and snow is gay.
>same caves over and over
>stale gameplay
>muh mountain and voice magic
Soulless
Skyrim definitely has soul. It's literally it's only selling point. Gameplay wise it's subpar and same for story, but it has some intangible quality to it that has kept people hooked for the better part of a decade.
The best argument in favour is that people spend dozens of hours modding it in order to try and capitalize on that intangible soulfulness to try and make the gameplay complimentary to it.
First time going into the cave for the golden claw set a really good tone for the game. I was pretty excited for everything, then most of everything else was pretty shit. Look at the quest for sneaking into the thalmor embassy party if you want to see how lazy the tone for the game is
Were gonna get outer worlds, and CP077 and finally Bethesda will be put out of it's fucking misery. Their future projects will never stack up. They were always mediocre.
>Gameplay wise it's subpar
Shit bait.
>big community still making porn mods
>soulless shitty game becomes medieval rape simulator 'cuz fans
>actually good ambience and vanilla music
Soul
It is though. There isn't really any RPG elements of value, and what attempts are made in that direction are basically just flavouring for combat and not a meaningful character creation system. Combat wise it's as bare bones as it gets to the point where even Morrowind has more in depth combat, and it's exploration/immersive features are shallow. Quest design is piss poor and massively repetitive and the main story is horribly paced. There's literally nothing it's good at.
SOUL
Usually discusses elder scrolls lore in general or spouting some stupid meme because all the NPCs repeat the same 6-7 lines of text
>he seriously thinks "soul" is nothing but contrarians complaining about new stuff
new games can have soul too
Really the only major problems of Skyrim is that the melee combat is barebones and the quests/dialogue offer very little choices. Everything else ranges from fine/acceptable to amazing, with the exception of Bethesda's technical incompetence.
The melee animations suck and are not satisfying, stealth archer, the most fun playstyle involves shit tier stealth which is the only reason why it is viable as a playstyle in the first place, the only thing the base game has going for it is the central gameplay loop of "go to dungeon>kill>loot>go to town to sell/complete a quest".
>On the upside
The only contemporary openworld game that truly worked, but only because of the superficiality of its mechanics and the non-existent story. By letting the player feel detached to the RPG side and the storyline they obtained freedom, and Skyrim is one of the very few games where the excess of content doesn't make it shittier and un-focused
>On the downside
It started the open-world craze, and the type of content it featured (it was perfect to be consumed rather than played) ended up being put in places where it made no sense or began ruining games that would have been better without open world/open map components (God of War 4 would have been SO MUCH BETTER without the open map and the fucking fetch quests, but they had to be there because without open-world features "it wouldn't sell enough")
Open world games have been around since the 80s, zoom zoom.
in fact I specified by putting the word "contemporary" in front of it.
So much potential for this quest and it was wasted.
Music is the soul of games and media.
>really enjoy creating ghost towns in Fallout 3, murdering everyone there and leaving them empty
>try the same in Skryim
>everyone is immortal
