What is the holy grail of lost video games?
What is the holy grail of lost video games?
P.T.
It's the reason tons of people tried that formula.
I'd imagine a hacker already preserved the PS4 demo binary so I wouldn't consider it lost unless you mean the most complete dev build of the whole project.
What was in that trailer that didn't make it to RtDL or Star Allies?
Star Allies has that.
Panzer Dragoon Saga Source code
why did they can it? it looked good
imagine the anal creampies
Polybius.
Dinosaur Planet?
Silent Hills?
Duelin' Firemen?
Kirby GCN would have been their biggest endeavor yet. The director, Shinichi Shimomura, mysteriously vanished at around the same time Sakurai left HAL. After that, HAL hemorrhaged talent. Most of their best designers and developers left to join Sora Ltd and other studios. HAL was literally incapable of finishing the game, even if they wanted to. They needed to contract third party developers such as Flagship and Goodfeel to put out platformers while they recuperated. They were eventually able to accumulate enough developers and designers to keep making platforms such as Return to Dream Land and Star Allies, which are largely built off the bones of GCN. This is in no small part thanks to the new general director, Shinya Kumazaki, who is a big fan of classic Kirby games and has a talent for streamlining development as much as possible, if at the expense of innovation and scale.
Earthbound 64
>we will never see this completed
Such a waste.
>originally would have detailed the end of the world, including established locations like Onett and Fourside
>Ness would have been in it
>would have had a whole adventure between Lucas and Clause to strengthen their bond before Hinawa goes missing
>would have ended with Porky's death
Columbine Doom wad
Never existed.
SPORE
Fun fact
At the time, the guy who made it was 20 years old
He's 25 now
Sounds about right.
Sakurai's direction.
Melee physics.
Came here to post this.
>Star Allies has that.
No it doesn't. It doesn't even have subgames, it just has worlds. It's also missing Heat Phan-Phan and Golem as helpers and Robo Dedede with the Warpstar as a boss.
No wonder Kirby has done nothing new for so long(even though Kirby games are usually the ones made).
I don't think Banjo-Threeie was ever in development. Rare may have been to busy with Conker's Other Bad Day which was in development but only for a short time before Microsoft came around. As for the other team I think they were busy with Star Fox Adventures.
And before anyone post it, I am aware of the ending gag from Banjo-Tooie. I see it as nothing more than a simple gag. Kinda like the "Earthbound 2 meeting" joke from Earthbound.
Earthbound N64. A beta build exists on a N64DD Dev Kit.
Skies of Arcadia proof of concept demo on Sega Saturn
Devotion actually worked tbqh family. It's a shame they got PRC'd
Reminder that Randy "Bobandy" Bitchford is sitting on a literal goldmine of Duke and Duke related accessories and won't release them.
Also there are beta versions of the original Prey people want to release but Todd won't let 'em.
The original Doom 4. Gameplay-wise it was supposed to be a by-the-numbers single player FPS with tons of scripted sequences, but Id was extremely secretive and proud of the plot and lore they had for it, which apparently was something far more complex than simply "Hell invades Earth and you're part of a resistance militia". Hugo Martin compared it to being Robert Zemeckis-like.
Sounds awful.
It was cancelled and eventually restarted into Doom 2016 mainly due to how plain the gameplay is, but through it all they've maintained they were very proud of the lore.
Bump
Battle Bird (バトルバード)
Scalebound
RE4 betas
Mega Man Legends 3 demo
Burger King foot lettuce
Starcraft Ghost
the sad truth is that most of these unfinished dev builds are just that... 10-15% of a finished game with the allure of being this magical alternate version of the game you're familiar with (if applicable)
It's like when Resident Evil 1.5 was finally released and we heard about it for all of a week.
The 85 percent complete version of Glover 2
The pre butchered spore.
why is it that the n64 has so many cancelled projects? was the 64DD that bad?
This is why my answer is Scalebound. That game was cancelled just 1 month before its release date; even with all the deadlines moved up to fuck with Platinum and force a buyout that game must've been >75% complete, and then they scrapped it all.
The 64DD was going to be pushed hard, almost as a half-generational step rather than a 32X/SEGA CD-style add-on. Its failure lead to a large number of cancelled and downgraded projects that were designed with the DD in mind. Kirby and the Crystal Shards was originally going to have Dedede, Adeleine, & Waddle Dee as playable characters in full co-op but being forced back onto a cartridge cut that feature out entirely.
Which one? There were like three separate projects.
Glover 2's case was that Hasbro ordered too many Glover 1 cartridges and was having financial problems so they cancelled Glover 2
How do we even know if Shimomura was directing Kirby GCN? That would've been a pretty big loss, if true.
P.T. was rebuilt for PC/VR using assets from the PS4 demo and Unreal Engine, not exactly the same, but it's damn close.
>various roms have cropped up but never been released publicly
Megaman Legends 3's demo.
I am so glad we got the Doom that we got, and that the original Doom 4 plot sounds so awful I hope we never, ever see anything of it than what we already have seen. We were blessed that we didn't get it.
GTA III Darkel missions and the beta/alpha builds with the schoolbus
Capcom Fighting All-Stars (was actually play tested and footage exists)
Capcom VS SNK 3 (was only recently revealed to have been in development, Capcom Fighting All-Stars was said to have been launched after its cancellation to salvage some of its assets)
Darkstalkers 4 (circa 2000, rumor only)
Darkstalkers 4 (circa 2013, various developer statements and actions make it seem likely this was in development and canned)
Fascination aka lewd Wild Gunman
The 64 was a massive failure and was only held afloat by sales in America. The Saturn demolished the N64 of all things, and the Saturn was not a success by any means.
Fire Emblem 64 (Maiden of Darkness) was cancelled and later became Fire Emblem Binding Blade on the GBA.
>looks like it controlled like bubsy 3d
Maybe it's for the best that this got cancelled?
The RE4 betas looked so cool.
That was such a bummer.
this played exactly like bubsy 3D. I don’t think we’d have fun at all playing these lost roms if we ever got our hands on em.
Bomberman 3DS looked pretty decent. I'm kind of sad it got cancelled. Hopefully Konami would try another 3D-style Bomberman game (last one was Jetters in 2002/2004).
Also, would've totally played Kirby Gamecube if it hadn't got cancelled. Although Kirby's Return to Dreamland and Star Allies borrowed many elements from it.
Megaman Legends 3
Hell, I'd kill just to get my hands on that "demo" build.
Fuck.
this isn't real. They made a bunch of WADs and they are easily downloadable online but they never made any based on the school
Am I wrong for wanting this game to still be completed despite it being cut up and used as spare parts for the past 4 games? It looks much better than any of the Rtdl games and doesn't have some kind of shitty gimmick which makes it seem like a breath of fresh air.
grass is always greener and all that.
>and the Saturn was not a success by any means.
the fuck are you on about the Saturn was a juggernaut in Japan and did pretty solid in Europe as well, it's only really the US it flopped hard in.
What in the fuck is wrong with nu-id? What happened to Carmack's "story in a game is about as important as story in porn" mentality? Jesus Fucking Christ.
Saturn was a mess in the biggest market around, the N64 was a mess in smaller markets but a success in America.
Carmack hasn't worked at id in some time and he was never quite right, then again he's only directed a couple of games.
>there's a timeline where we got kirby 64 2
Actually and unironically, it would have worked better with a strogg invasion than that. With less CoD-esque stuff, of course
He doesn't know how to use it.
And actually, releasing such game nowadays isn't a good idea with all the SJW shit
No, it is an excellent idea you hypersensitive faggot.
The same John Carmack who was in charge of Quake 2, Doom 3, RAGE and Doom 4? I think it's very fucking clear that he changed his mind along the road.
Based.
>ANNOUNCEMENT: I have taken the game down. I'm leaving the page up, but the downloads have been removed. Check the latest devlog for more info on this.
Reminder that the gladiator level from Conker 64 survived into Bad Fur Day.
Kinda.
Definitely this
God I wish there was some kind of beta or something for someone to leak
Project Dream
Starcraft Ghost.
Donkey Kong Racing!
The third Banjo Kazooie game before they said "nah fuck it lets make it about Lego cars"
unseen64.net
So the shitty design philosophy N&B had was a hold-over.
It would have been a lot better than those other games.
It's an educated guess based on his work on Kirby GBA (which was shifted into Nightmare in Dream Land).
Looks like fun settings. Kind of gives me Namco Museum vibes, but as an adventure.
yup. it seems so.
You can still find it, tis easy
But yeah Konami should have left it up on PS4 just for fun, but they are massive dicks obviously
After they successfully released the Super FX chip-enhanced gameStar Foxin collaboration with Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1993, British game developer Argonaut Games came up with the idea for a virtually new type of game: a 3D platformer.
They threw togethera prototype game of this genre featuring Nintendo's character Yoshi.
When they showed Nintendo the game, Nintendo rejected it, not willing to take the risk of entering an entirely new field with an outside developer.
This was the final blow to the two companies' relationship, as Nintendo soon released their own 3D platformer for the new Nintendo 64 console,Super Mario 64, which ended up using several of the ideas Argonaut implemented in their Yoshi prototype. Shigeru Miyamoto later apologized to them.
This prototype has never surfaced, and no one outside the two companies has seen any material related to it.
The prototype became widely known to the public after the website Eurogamer mentioned it in an article about Argonaut's and Nintendo's partnership onStar Fox.[1]While the Eurogamer article describes the game as a platformer, a 2005 post on a fansite of theCrocvideo game series[2](The author claimed to have visited Argonaut's office in 1999) and a post by an Argonaut employee on the message board NeoGaf[3]instead refers to it as a racing game. The NeoGaf post also claims the game was namedYoshi Racing.
No it would not have.
nuts and bolts was made from combining two games which were both in development hell and needed to be finished, with one of those games being banjo threeie and the other being some generic car builder game
Yes it would have.
i want the different camera angles back
Kirby is wasted potential IP. Too much gimmicky shit and piss easy difficulty, that could be a really great game.
Look who's calling the kettle black
The OoT expansion looked pretty dope
>one RE4 beta became DMC
Makes me curious about all of the other shit we haven't seen for it
Mother 3 for the n64.
That demo looked so promising dude I wanted it so badly, not that the mother 3 we got on the gba was bad or anything its just... Something about the low poly graphics and the environment screams SOUL.
>Nintendo releases the N64 Classic
>Includes a previously unreleased game like Star Fox 2
>It's Earthbound 64
It's a pipedream but god I wish it would be real
RE3.5, as in the fog/hookman build became Haunting Ground...to an extent.
>NO U
You are a fucking disgrace.
Considering almost everyone that cared got a chance to play that and it has been preserved for future emulation, I wouldn't call that lost or a holy grail.
EB64 isn't finished enough, Dinosaur Planet pretty much is though, but Microsoft own it, though i think MS would be happy to give them access to the Rare vault
I thought this was what eventually became Star Allies

Damn.
Dinosaur Planet
It'd be nice to get a hold of those old pre-Xbox Halo builds.

Im super interested in how Mother 3 was originally supposed to be. It had like 12 chapters or something, Tantane Island was supposed to be more fucked up, and I would also just like to see it in an N64 aesthetic.
There was that one green text from a supposed ex Rare employee talking about how Banjo Threeie was essentially turned into Nuts and Bolts.
That was a LARP. A really detailed LARP, but a LARP nonetheless. There was never a Banjo platformer that wasn't a planned enhanced remake of B-K or Nuts and Bolts.
Marble Madness 2. It's not the most exciting thing in the world, but it's uniquely frustrating. There exist 2 boards and only 2, and both are owned by the same guy. This guy refuses to dump the ROM online and he only lets people play it at conventions, so there's very little footage and none of it is high quality.
It's a lost game but only because the guy who has it is a douchebag.
>Duelin' Firemen
I'm sad now thanks
So you could eventually boil down the reason for Kirby GCN being cancelled was Shimomura was killed by the Yakuza?
The only things Star Allies reused from Kirby GCN (that we know of) are the ally system and Morpho Knight. Other than that, it's essentially a different game.
this looks like some good fun, although i'm not really sure how much there would be to do
Fun fact: Kirby GCN would have had subgames sort of like Super Star and Morpho Knight would have been the main villain of a subgame. Whether it was Meta Knight undergoing a transformation of a different character is unclear. Seeing as how the butterfly seems to transform Galacta Knight into Morpho Knight, I'm inclined to believe that it's Meta Knight transformed.
Also, the same art book that first showed us Morpho Knight also had some cool concept art for Dedede robot enemies, certainly from Kirby GCN.
HL3, at whatever stage in development it was before Gaben ate it.
why do i keep clicking on these fucking threads, every single time its such a goddamn bummer
all these dead games that will never see the light of day and the dickhead studios keeping their builds hostage
PT was another steaming pile of shit dropped on the Silent Hill name.
Yeah it was not better than Homecoming and Book of Memories
My top three are Twelve Tales: Conker 64, Kirby GCN, and Sonic X-Treme.
What's the holy grail of lost Hentai games?
who cares, nothing of value was lost
Half Life happened
Christoph Columbus for the SNES
god damn that looks cool as fuck WHY WOULD YOU POST THAT
Frig off randy you cheeseburger eating fuck
This would have emptied store shelves from boxart alone.
uncut version of I have no mouth and I must scream
check out the tits on that goat
