Who's gonna take up the mantle when Sugiyama kicks the bucket? My vote goes for Yasunori Noshiki, Octopath might be mediocre but goddamn the music fucking slaps

They can only go up so it doesn't really matter. Hopefully he doesn't try to emualte Sugiyama's style.

Hopefully someone who has better understanding of the importance of context sensitivity in Vidya music rather than someone just doing music for the sake of doing music

He has been mentoring a younger guy who outwardly states his disdain for MIDI.

He has an apprentice who isn't a piece of shit IIRC

Regardless of how you feel about Sugiyama or his music, the music is part of the series' identity. This is like saying a new artist for the series shouldn't try to emulate Toriyama's art style.

The series would also be better off not emulating Toriyama's horrendous art style ( moreso in the context of DQ, Toriyama has done good stuff, most importantly machines & robots, but anything human & animal is horrendous )

Somehow Sugiyama's estate will make it so they have to keep reusing his music.

I know it gets old looking at it, but it's all a matter of identity. I'm not even a fan of his art style, but I can't really imagine Dragon Quest looking like anything else.

Fair enough. Given the size of the franchise, it is to be expected.

But Toriyama has good art. Sugiyama has shiet music.

I seriously doubt Toriyama is still personally doing all the DQ designs. He must have ghost artists emulating his style much the way Ken Sugimori not-so-secretly doesn't draw all the Pokemon artwork any more.

Yuji Horii is the only one DQ can't subsist without.

Octopath's OST is incredible. Alfyn and The Riverlands' background track sold me on the game if anything lol.

Fuck youuuu

Nice bait

>Octopath
>mediocre

Why do you fags keep pushing this narrative?

Some people just can't appreciate a narrative that isn't about traditional chosen ones all teaming up to stop a giant threat.

>a narrative that isn't about traditional chosen ones all teaming up to stop a giant threat
Funny because the game eventually becomes just that at the absolute endgame kek

>Inferior BD combat
>Complete lack of character interaction
>Story pacing makes the last 4 chapters of BD look like fun
The idea was good, it's just a shame they executed it so poorly. I was really looking forward to it leading up to its release.
