DOOM (1993)

So, is this shit good? Or a boomer meme? New ports are pretty cheap.

It's good. And have a fuck ton of wads for continued play. Check out the DOOM general on

Boomer garbage, whenever Yea Forums talks about it they only spam "Le Downloaded more than Windows" or "Zoomer, Zoomer, Zoomer" which proves that its horrible. Doomfags are like delusional alzemiers patients. The reason Yea Forums hates Doom 4 so much is because it's actually popular unlike this irrelevant game that people stopped caring about when Half-Life & GoldenEye came out

Gonna hijack this thread to ask for the Doom modding guide, if anyone has it.

This is the worst bait I've ever seen, none of this is relevant in any manner or true and some of it doesn't even form coherent sentences, please lurk more and come up with something intelligent that will actually farm (you)s, thank you.

It's actually incredible how well it has aged.

teh game is good but the ports are shit
just grab gzdoom and a wad of the original

I just started playing it a week back (Ultimate Doom, because Doom II isn't available in Germany), and it's really fun.

this but unironically

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO someone doesnt agree with me must be bait, unironically kys the game aged like milk

I actually just installed GZDoom last night, and played through the first episode of Doom. I think it holds up pretty well. I turned off vertical aiming, jumping, and retarded shit like crouching though. I don't mind most of the graphical features GZDoom adds, and I'm certainly not trying to emulate the vanilla experience (because I could just use DOSBox for that), but major gameplay features that weren't in the original game can kindly fuck off, and I mean that in the nicest way. If you want jumping in Doom, great. The game wasn't designed for it though.

Anyway, I also recommend Heretic. Everyone forgets about Heretic and will recommend Hexen instead, but Heretic is a fine game. I actually think it's better.

Based Heretic brother

There's a reason why for several years, any fps game that came out was called a doom clone. It's good, very good. If you've never played a game from the era then it'll be incredibly jarring but it's amazingly good fun with level design and enemy balance that is still crowned even today. Dooms existence is shareware, I wouldn't pay money for it today, pick up a source port like zdoom or some other modern source port and just drag the doomwad over the engine

that wallpaper looks comfy, can you post it pls?

I got the 2nd one on switch, todd in his infinite retardation decided it would be a good idea to ask for an email every time the game starts up.

I just want to play the game, fuck you bethesda.

Play is without mods or anything on PC for the first time a month ago, I was shocked how much fun I had

Better than nuDoom.

It is good, but you should play for free. Maybe, donate to a developer of your favorite port.

It's one of the backgrounds that came with Linux Mint. Took me a minute but I found where it's stored.

It is. It's a bit on the easy side nowadays since it was designed in mind with how the average pc user of the time would play it (no mouse/low frame rate) so playing it at 60+fps and with a mouse makes some levels feel pretty easy. Still, the game eventually gets harder to a satisfying point and the wads are really challenging.

I just finished my playthrough of it a few days ago. The dosbox version on GOG on hurt me plenty difficulty to be exact. I think it holds up pretty well after you get past the low resolution and get a control scheme you like working. Some of the levels are real mazes but the automap makes them bearable. Only a few specific levels gave me any serious problems and in retrospect starting on a higher difficulty would have been better. Some enemies can one or two shot you so be sure to quicksave every now and then. I'm halfway into my playthrough of doom 2 and it's pretty much the same thing but with new enemies, weapons, music, and levels. After I finish it I think I'll try some wads out.

The original Doom could be played with a mouse, to some extent. The really archaic thing about the original Doom's control scheme was the difficulty of strafing. (Left and right arrows were for turning; holding Alt would modify those same keys for strafing. You couldn't really strafe and turn at the same time, if I remember correctly.) The ability circle-strafe enemies is what makes Doom with modern controls so easy.

>is doom (1993) a meme

Well, i mean, yes he could also just be a retard, there are many ways to be wrong about Doom, sure.
