DQXI

Damn switchbros, this demo just keeps going and going!

Gemma isn't really dead right...RIGHT?

Jesus fuck, you tell me. I'm over seven hours in and I got to the Japanese-style town. It did single-handedly convince me to get the game day one, so I'm happy it's a thing, but it kinda feels like they just dumped the full game for free.

Looks like it's 50-60 hours to complete, so a 10 hour demo barely scratches the surface. It's a nice taste and carrying progress over is the cherry on top.

Attached: 1407597009068.gif (500x400, 282K)

You have no idea how long that game is, user.

You just know...

Nigga have you even played a Dragon Quest game? You aren't even a fraction into the story and when you think you're near the end it's just the end of act 1.

The ps4 demo ended when he leaves his hometown.

The weeb village is about 0.5% into the game

Why don't the west like Dragon Quest?

Attached: DF4ED708-2144-46F9-AEC3-720B3C621434.jpg (1180x879, 182K)

I don't remember how long it took me to beat the game, but it was atleast 85 hours. I was playing with some hard-mode difficulty settings though.

I know that I can expect a 100-hour main story or whatever, I'm just saying that it's ridiculous to call this a demo. I've played full games shorter than this demo.

Is it true luminary alone can't heal himself in battle?

Imcluding the third part?

>the whole game

>50-60 hours
>not over 100 hours

lmao

He gets some healing spells, hut not long into the game you won't want to use his heals anymore. There are better healers, and you'd be wasting his damage potential

you end up going back in time in the 3rd act

No, unless it's a Draconian thing

Wait until it releases on the Switch

deleted this shit in like 8 minutes god damn what a borefest

They REALLY want you to buy thus game. After investing 10 hours you will
>drop the game entirely because it is not for you
or
>buy it on day 1
It is a good thing what they did. Not to mention you can transfer you save data, grind if you want, do whatever the fuck you want until the game comes out. Unlike, say, RE2 demo that can be played only 60 minutes.

You end up going back in time three hours in too so I'm not sure what you're expecting to accomplish with this spoiler.

I'll buy the Switch version if my wife gets interested in it. I already beat the game twice on PS4.

Looking at my hours I have 125 logged. But I did remove my draconian settings when I reached the final boss since I didn't feel like leveling anymore.

>Definitive edition allows you to marry other female party members
>Still will marry Gemma because she is best girl
welp

Do it for your wife. Tell her more scenes with Erik are in there.

BTW, anons... You can already download free DLC (costumes, skill seed) from eShop, but you can't use it until full game comes out.

Switch version has different challenges.

Attached: IMG_20190821_232856.jpg (3264x1840, 1.1M)

You can skip grinding by using the pep powers Electro Light and Halellujah. Works very well after the second part, when you should be around lv 50. You can get to lv 99 in 4-5 battles

I tried this game but I really can't see the fun in it. The game is too easy on normal mode and there's an even an option for it to play itself in battles. I tried turning on those extra challanges to make it harder but then it just become way too grindy where I had to spend hours at each zone to progress.

I like a game with a good story if the gameplay is also fun but it's just sooo slow and boring. I wish when games wasn't made for babies.

If you rushed 50 hours should be enough to beat it. If you're taking your time I'd say 70-80, and a 100% playthrough would include the postgame which is another 30-40 or so. This game is big.

Nah you need use Raab or Sylv. Sylv being superior early on with Hustle Dance.

You can use Serena, but she lacks the versatility of them and you usually don't need to heal every turn until end game at which point Raab still better.

Should i try the demo bros?

>option with hard enemies is hard

All you need to active is the stronger monsters. Just be sure to stock up on medicine before killing shit. Also when you leave the village and lose your temp members, head straight to the city and continue the story, maybe level up twice between then at most. Once you have two party members it's a much better RPG experience, and only gets better as you go along.

Yeah you should, if you haven't played DQ11 right now this is your chance to see if you'll want to. You get to transfer your save data if you buy it, too

Yeh

The sad thing is I bought this for PS4 but it quickly got backlogged before really leaving the first town. I still need to beat Ys 8 too.

Attached: 2210697.png (800x600, 530K)

Nothing to lose. Just be sure to hit X at the name entry screen and turn on the super tough monsters. It might fuck you up occasionally but trust me, it's WAY more engaging than vanilla mode. That shit is barely a game, the enemies do piss for damage and your tiny mana pool will easily heal you between level-ups.

I didn't complain that it's hard, i complained that it's becomes too grindy with those options turned on. I like to have some challange without the game taking 2 times longer to complete.

I don't have time to finish these games

I'm still annoyed at Square Enix for sitting on their asses for two years to entice people to double-dip, but I can't deny that the port is stellar, definitely one of the best-looking games on Switch. Probably the best-looking big rpg in general.

I think I'm a bit further than that already. Thanks for the tip about hard monster but I don't think I can turn it back on after having turned it off right?

>Luminaire is the worst character

what did they mean by this?

She dies just like Veronica.

In this case I think SE deserves some slack. DQXI is not only one huge motherfucker of a game to get running on a machine the size of a DVD case, but there's a pretty significant chunk of new content as well as the 3DS mode packed in. They could have easily made that a preorder bonus or part of a season pass and people would have bent over and taken it for the most part.

What's "Townsfolk Talk Tripe" do?

Villagers tell you funny lies occasionally

Basically this

youtu.be/uCGD9dT12C0

They give you wrong info sometimes. I will pick that for 2nd run.

>getting to hotto
>the full game

I don't know what's considered a good average length for a JRPG, but Hotto is like 7-10 hours into a game that took me 70 to beat, plus another 30 for post-game content

game's fucking long, mate

Attached: 1554875716839.gif (500x300, 971K)

He gets healing abilities later, but by that point you'll have party members that function better as a dedicated healer because their Magical Mending is higher.

>spent two hours still trying to get my first bunny tail drop.
>haven't even gotten to Heliodor yet.
maybe I should just move on

Yeah you should.

Really enjoying the demo and I want to pick it up but Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon, Doom Eternal and Astral Chain are already drying my wallet. Probably giving up on Doom to pick this up day 1

There's an option capping xp from lower-levelled monsters.
It's a jrpg, grinding will always be an option to attenuate the difficulty. If you want more challenge, you need to be underleveled and win through strategy (cheesing)

>Probably giving up on Doom to pick this up day 1
Based new Dragon Quest bro

what's life like as a wagie?

People can shit on Toriyama human characters all they want, i still think they are neat and soulful.

I think they look like trash when he draws them but look good in 3d models.

some says it's a great game and others say it's shit
which ones should i believe

Just pirate pokemon or buy it used. Spend that money of Demon X Machina or FF VIII instead.

Because Nintendo shat the bed with it's original big push, years ago.

Attached: dq.png (513x224, 41K)

Will the pc version ever get the extra content, or did i end up buying the gimped version?

can i shit on everything but the human characters?
cause the samey monster with bug carapace and building with bug carapace and robot with bug carapace isn't interesting

b-b-b-but the right is so bland and boring!

Attached: 1565865354906.jpg (852x1024, 666K)

Neither, don't listen to Yea Forums
Play it yourself and find out

His monster design is great tho.

Attached: asshole.jpg (246x205, 8K)

Dragon Warrior 3 and 4 had fantastic translations for the time.

I try to imagine those two meeting in the world, dating, then having a child who ends up being as fucked up as they are.

You'll probably find out once you stop sucking money off your parents.

Yeah, i love having every kingdom having it's own dialect. That did not turn the game into an incomprehensible clusterfuck and it certainly did not lead to party chat, an actual game mechanic, getting removed from the game.
>b-but im an from an English speaking country and i understand welsh slang in the first chapter perfectly
Good for you. Too bad this was an international release that people from all over the world were supposed to understand and not just anglos.

Why should i play a game with ancient turn based combat?

It's 2019, theres no excuse for this anymore.

...user, I'm making fun of the people who defend awful localizations. Like the image and even the mario maker 2 dialogue.

lol

I am sorry.
I get triggered whenever this topic comes out.

I just wish there was a way to play as your party members in the field. I've seen other games change your "player" character if you put that party member at the top of the list. Shame this one doesn't allow that.

Game’s 2nd half is artificial lengthening. It’s like the world of ruin but literally nothing is different, you just have to run through every town again

>full games shorter than a demo
This sure says a lot about the game industry

How does Toriyama keep doing it, bros?

Attached: dq1.jpg (982x2159, 213K)

I'm surprised she doesn't have a one piece swimsuit or a schoolgirl uniform, unless that's meant to be a school uniform.

Why would you waste your money on pokemon?

This is the longest DQ except for VII. You're in for a good time user.

He gets omni-heal and Full-heal, which make him the best backup healer in the game. He's got high damage potential, and most pep powers are reliant on him being present, so he's indispensable against the end-game bosses. I don't know if the Draconian challenge tat ends the game if he dies locks him into the party, but even if it does, most people probably wouldn't notice.

Except, you know,
>Story
>Enemies
>Bosses
>Quests
>Gear
>Skills

Just besides those I guess

Every party member is really good. The worst is probably Rab and even he's still good because he has buffs, debuffs, and healing, plus party members can be swapped out at any time.

Like one user said, the Champion's Pack is on the eShop and free. It has a few costumes and some armor, including a Veronica costume.

Does the draconian setting that reduces XP for weak monsters prevent you from gaining experience by trampling overworld enemies with your horse? As far as I can tell, the XP from trampling is static. Those green drum beating genies near Hotto always give 9xp and the zombies always give 11xp. It was about as fast if not faster trampling enemies to grind than it was actually fighting them with Harder monsters.

>struggling my ass off because of Shypox + Stronger Enemies, etc
>finally reach Heliodor City
holy shit it was all worth it
what a comfy town

>If you want more challenge, you need to be underleveled and win through strategy (cheesing)
You limit your strategies by being underleveled because skills are so expensive early on and you only get like 2-3 points per level up. Being underleveled makes you more reliant on gear, like the casino greatsword to kill bosses.

You should just carry on with the story until you get your next party member, it won't take long at all and you are far better equipped for dealing with hard mode bullshit.

>Japanese-style town.
The demo let's you go that far?
I was certain that you could only play up to getting out of the jail with Erik maybe going through the portal at the absolute best.

I'm level 9 and just arrived at Heliodor (didn't even talk to the King).
Is there anything important to farm or do before?
I heard about Bunicorn material or something.

Attached: 1547572012809.png (498x458, 384K)

Greatswords make him the biggest asset in the first two arcs. Helichoper deals 100% damage to all enemies in a group with no damage falloff. Unbridled blade deals 300% damage to a single target. In the second arc he gets quadraslash to attack all enemies, and unlike most spells it scales with strength. He gets omniheal for backup healing too. The worst character is Jade, because literally all she can do is deal damage, and her damage isn't even that good compared to Hero, Erik, or Veronica.

Nintendo is the only one marketing it in the west though.

Square Enix never ported the Switch/XBONE improvements for FFXII to PS4 or PC. It's never gonna happen.

How is he so fucking based?

Attached: 1536540861898.jpg (1920x1080, 486K)

In not too long, you'll end up in a church and have to go to the capital again. In front of the church there's a sidequest giver, be sure to do it otherwise you'll only be able to do it dozens and dozens of hours later

why does it look so garbage on switch?
what would i miss on pc version?

The demo covers the entire portion of the game where you only control Hero and Erik. The last thing you do is have Veronica and Serena join your party and unlock skil respec. When you get close to the dessert, you're greeted with a message telling you there's nothing left to do in the demo, but you can keep playing.

>Have jerked it to Sylvando
>but this was before I knew it was a DQ doujin
>Finally play it, Sylvando actually best boy
>now guilt, lots of guilt

Attached: dispair.gif (500x532, 904K)

I'm taking a break at the moment but I'll do that once I'm back in, thanks bud.

Wait, Switch/X1 version of FF XII has something added? I honestly don't know.

>parents bought me DQ4 for the ds as a kid
>didn't understand any of the dialect shit
>never completed the game
>1 year later on my birthday parents bought me dragon quest 5
>never touched it because of 4's shitty localization
>years later play it
>one of the bests games I've ever played
Man fuck the localization cunts, they robbed me of a chance to get into DQ much earlier in my life.

Attached: 1566414030380.png (960x1054, 925K)

He's pretty good all around if you go Axes+Shield. He easily replaced Jade in my party line-up, because she has zero utility.

>tfw i just completed the demo after 11hrs and found out i missed a recipe in Cobblestone

Attached: 4576756.png (997x697, 1.39M)

>License Reset Function: By talking to Clan Centurio's leader Montblanc in Rabanastre, players can reset and change their party member's jobs, allowing them to customise the jobs of their party as desired.
>Additional Gambit Sets: Gambits allow players to customize their party's AI. Players can now create three unique sets, allowing players to switch between sets for different situations, such as map exploration or boss fights.
>Improved 'New Game+': Allows users to start the game with party members at level 90 and carry over some items like weapons, magic and gil obtained during previous playthroughs.

You'll be able to go back and get it once you get the boat. If I were you I would hold off on the recipe until Act 2 when you're finally able to open the red doors like the one in Cobblestone.

After recruiting the twins at Hotto, I can safely say this is a day one buy. It's so damn comfy. The art style, the simple gameplay, the classic story.

And maybe it's just me, but I've had some close calls.

Attached: 1550072750351.gif (480x280, 1.06M)

My final party comp was Hero, Jade, Hendrick, and Serena. I would also alternate serena for Veronica and have the hero be my main healer once he learned omniheal.

The game is fantastic, but it's a real long one.
And I don't mean in a completionist sidequest cheevo way, but as in the main story is a long one.
Buckle up

No worries, boss. I've tangled with the likes of JRPGs before.

Did I fuck up badly by not turning on tough enemies?

Oh my god you are adorable.

You kids should look up how long DQ7 is.

>7 hours

Holy FUCK I was expecting the demo to end after you return from the mountain top. Guess I'm in for a ride.

It's not even a challenge. It's just some dumb-silly extra lines. What happens is randomly you'll talk to an NPC, then they'll say something that makes you double-take, then they say "Just kidding", a sound effect plays, then they go back to saying their normal text.

Since it literally doesn't change anything, just gives you more, there is no reason for you not to select it even as a beginning who sucks at games. I had the dog at the beginning suddenly start meowing at me as a lie. It's great.

Well, shit.
Hopefully switch emulation will be on a high enough level some day.

Based Hank Hill. I hope you enjoy the full game next month.

>CROIKY! TANKS FER 'ELPING ME OUT DERE

Should I switch to Japanese?

Attached: 1533405899530.png (410x816, 409K)

Omniheal costs 64mp, dude, I would never make the hero my main healer with such an expensive spell. Try Hero/Erik/Hendrick + Vernoca, Serena, and Sylvando. Sylvando's ladies first skill is fucking amazing, you can double heal, double buff, or double attack with either sister whenever the situation demands. It's fucking great being able to cast channel anger and attack with Veronica in the same turn, especially if she triggers echo and attacks twice on her own. Vernonica became my MVP in the third arc, totally worth ignoring my friends pleas to stay with them and fucking off to a different timeline to save her

I find the early game in particular is just excruciating without at least super monsters turned on. Everything hits with the force of a limp dick, and even your beginning mana pool has enough healing in it to last between the health restores you get with level-ups.

Nice. Thank you, user!
Yes.

Yes.

The text will still be bong speak

The main story is so long that I thought the last 3rd of it was just additional postgame content that would be over after another hour or two for the entire 30 hours.

>what would i miss on pc version?
Truck load of new content.
Including playing the game fully in a traditional top down style.
Somebody posted the gigantic list yesterday but i didn't save it.

>can't turn on harder enemies without restarting the entire game
why can't i enable this any time reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

no the english voices are great for that specific reason

Yeah, the moment it sounded like they plucked random people off the streets of the UK and Australia to voice the characters was the moment I decided I wouldn't play in English.

>If I were you I would hold off on the recipe until Act 2 when you're finally able to open the red doors like the one in Cobblestone.
would the recipe be of any value by then besides for completionist sake? it was for a templar uniform

>four hours in
>still no introductory slime battle

Attached: bored.jpg (463x463, 66K)

I feel like it was a missed opportunity to not make Erik's sister playable. She could have been axes + Boomerangs except actually good with them unlike Hendrik and Erik who are better off using swords or knives.

what the hell are talking about? you fight them like 10 min into the game. and theyre your very first enemies

Attached: 4564545575.png (1261x670, 2.2M)

>Party wipes out if protagonist perishes
So regular Nocturne mode?

What does the "shypox" option do on the file creation.

Yes nigger it’s free

Oh my God this music.

Hate this option. You have teamates that can revive you. If you can revive them, they should be able to revive you. I call it the persona horrible option

You'd think a series with character designs by the creator of Dragon Ball would appeal to people overseas.

Attached: 91AMRUEEqvL._AC_SL1500_.jpg (926x1500, 445K)

Random status aliments during battle, it's for a additional challenge

He is talking about DQ7, user.
Haha, exactly. Now, if there was no escape challenge too, we would have Nocturne hard mode.

I'm talking about dq7.

It was, no? It felt more like a postgame with extra care, than a regular part. I guess it sits awkwardly in the middle, it has enough production to not be just an afterthought, but it was also much poorer than the previous parts

Where does the demo end anyway?
I'm just curious as someone who already beat it on PC

Attached: Dragon Quest XI Echoes of an Elusive Age Screenshot 2018.09.18 - 00.02.44.64.png (1080x1920, 2.28M)

Shypox is a "status ailment" that makes you miss a turn. RNG status ailment basically.
However I believe shypox also makes you immune to the charm status?
Also affects dialogue prompts because you're character is too shy to talk to them. That one is just an annoyance.

Just a meme difficulty option. For fun.

That cover is awful.

Left is unironically better, and Alena has way more personality as a Russian.

it ends after veronica and serena join your party and your next stop is the desert region. The demo prompts you that it has ended when you try to approach the guard your supposed to hand the letter to in order to pass

You'll still have the awful, awful English sub script to deal with. Gotta love all the cringe "humor" they added like just making everyone in a town talk in haikus.

Form your own opinions based on your tastes and preferences

Oh nice. That is a good fair chunk of the game. I thought it would end the moment you hop in the portal to the other continent

Also. I screenshotted most important moments in the game when I played it. Dunno why

Attached: 20180905234740_1.jpg (1920x1080, 343K)

Imagine Dragon Quest IX remake with these graphics + Multiplayer co-op Local and Online.

The potential...

hmmm yes japanese humor is much superior

Attached: hqdefault.jpg (480x360, 31K)

You should keep it on since they actually went and made different accents for each region. It's pretty interesting actually. Yes there is British people trying to do American and it's kinda hilariously bad. It's awesome.

Attached: 20180909083116_1.jpg (1920x1080, 502K)

>10 min
you mean first minute

>get 2 sisters
>go back to dungeon
>ride skeleton for 3 hours

Mc's hair isn't spiky enough for the west.

I could see his reveal being the S.A. intro up to getting arrested by ten penny where instead of Tenpenny; Solid snake and Samus arrest CJ

What some fun settings i can enable before i start the game? i dont want to go too crazy though. i still want to be able to enjoy the game and not drop it out of bullshit frustration

Attached: 1562923750929.jpg (475x482, 37K)

>no escape challenge too
There was on PS4/PC. They took it out on the Switch version for some reason.

>it certainly did not lead to party chat, an actual game mechanic, getting removed from the game.
I know you're being sarcastic, so I wanted you to know that this is actually false. The translation team has an automatic tool they use that turns English text into a dialect automatically. The reason party chat was cut was because Square Enix didn't think 4 DS would sell that well in the west, so they didn't want to have to pay for 1/3rd of the total text in the game to be translated and made arguments that it wasn't necessary. The translation team actually fought AGAINST this to INCLUDE party chat, and their fight went on well past 4's release and is the only reason we got party chat in 5.
Confirmed from an interview with Richard Honeywood, head of localization and translation, and the 8-4 team here: 8-4.jp/blog/?p=381

Probably strong enemies and EXP limit

Should I turn on stronger enemies even if I've already sunk a few hours into the demo and it's my first DQ game unless you count rocket slime? I'm worried I'll lose motivation if I have to replay from the start and hard mode just makes the game a grind.

>Be retarded as a kid
>Can't sound out words he reads on the screen because he's an ESL/ETL
>Expects people to take his opinion seriously
lol

Attached: 1553323466195.jpg (1920x1080, 1.42M)

My favorite part of awful translation work are the retards who defend it because it's the only translation they have.

The DQ games have all been completely mutilated for the west. Even the ones with "better" translations are absolutely fucking unplayable in English. This is because western localisers take the "E for Everyone" rating to mean "this game needs to be localised for children".

So you wind up with peak cringe shit like ほむらの里 being translated as "Hotto".

The thing is that it looks like Dragon Ball classic, not Dragon Ball Z.
There are no screaming musclemen with banana bunches streaming down their hair and sloped gorilla foreheads without eyebrows, so it doesn't really appeal to the West.

you can make a separate file and see how it feels. just skip cutscenes youve already seen and change the battle settings so the battle animations are drastically sped up

>So you wind up with peak cringe shit like ほむらの里 being translated as "Hotto".
It's succinct, gets the same meaning across, and fits with the Japanese translation. It's only cringe if you're a retarded weeb. Fuck off.

There's no knocking people through mountains unscathed so no

Because it isn't animu enough.
The west are degenerate and have shit taste.

It's the kind of trash you'd only find in children's media, because that's the only place you come across names like "Lazytown".

>It's the kind of trash you'd only find in children's media, because that's the only place you come across names like "Lazytown".
The weeb sentence you typed out literally just says "Village of Flame". This is the epitome of an anime-club reject demanding people call it a "katana" instead of a "sword".

>play XI on PS4 for 11 hours through friends account
>don't want to buy switch version and be forced to restart
>but don't want to keep playing ps4 version since I'm losing out on the experience on switch

Fuck this shit just release it as dlc SE you jews

Attached: TheJokerwithaChainsaw63130.jpg (758x1200, 190K)

Is this number really accurate?
Steamspy/SteamDB says between 200k to 500k sales on Steam alone.

Because you don't know Japanese, and you don't know what kind of naming sense is acceptable.

Does this game crash like crazy for anyone else? Ever since entering Kingsbarrow it's done it twice after I got done using items or equipping from the menu.

Yeah, elite Japanese naming sense such as "Inochi no mizu" and "Hambaaga" really escape a filthy gajin like me.

>People can shit on Toriyama human characters all they want
Only retarded American Millennials do this.
Toriyama is God-tier but these hipsters never can admit it.

Attached: VegetavsRecoome.jpg (513x9968, 1.5M)

No one tell him that he's got another 120 hours to go.

Attached: 1418192662521.jpg (247x249, 10K)

Literally the other way around.

lots of my friends like it here in spicland. Same reason Chrono Trigger sold like hotcakes here back in the day despite most people knowing jackshit about the game or even being able to speak english.

The version on the right is much superior
The version on the left is for retarded basedboys

Dragon Quest was not a huge success in the west back in the day because RPG's were not very popular.
Dragon Warrior however was more popular in America back in the NES era hence why all 4 Famicom games got localized while Final Fantasy only got 1 game localized.

You might need a Ritalin prescription if 8 minutes was your best effort. I’d never drop any game after only 8 minutes.

>My 1st DS and DQ game was DQM Joker
I originally weirded out you didn’t recruit monsters to fight for you

WHEN IS DRAGON QUEST 12 I NEED IT

Attached: 1287308408388.png (264x233, 11K)

Gonna be honest, the reason I’m not into it is because the story is basic as fuck and the gameplay has barely changed. I’m currently past the point where you get Jade back after the apocalypse and I can’t be bothered to keep playing.

Albeit, Sylvando is based and I just want to finish it to see more of his glorious cutscenes.

It’s been a long time since I genuinely said
“I’m completely sold”
This demo did it for me

Go back and enable Hard Enemies. Otherwise you will be one-shotting everything and it's not as fun.

Okay but everyone in the town speaks in haiku and fuck you that’s amazing.

how much time do I have to finish fire emblem three houses, if I want to pick this up?

is it releasing next month?

So i'll stick with japanese voices? Thanks.
>instead of translating the game from plain japanese to plain english lets spice it up and make our games read like chinese bootlegs
I will never understand why whoever is in charge of the western release just doesn't FUCKING STOP. Nobody thinks you are being funny or witty and you are killing your games sale and pushing people away, fuck off.

Puns are kino. Go play the japanese version you cringey weeb.

On 26th or 27th
You have enough time.

You have a month and fire emblem's routes are estimated 60 hours each.

I only play FE like an hour a day, in bed

Any secret boss battles or something in the demo? And is it possible to fight the Cyclops in the manglegrove?

「ホムラ」の里ですね…

Those demons are bound to demi-fiend because they're afraid of him or in awe of his power. If his weak ass gets womped, then they're not obligated to help him. World of strength, nigga.

>world is called Erdrea
Is it the same in Japanese? Or is it another Roto/Erdrick kind of thing?

>The thing is that it looks like Dragon Ball classic
Not even.
Dragon Quest has always had a more bland art style compare to Toriyama's actual comics.

Chrono Trigger proves this.

what's the rate for the Bunicorn drop?
I'm literally lvl 10 and didn't get one farming bunnies all day.

greatsword or sword and shield?

ロトゼタシア

Anyone else perturbed by the fact that Veronica's loli disease made her head bigger than her twin?

Then it'll last until DQ for certain.

Just some really chubby cheeks.

Sword and shield.

>Rotzetasia
So it was based on Asia then?

>No first person mode to take screenshots of cuties in the Switch version
>Photo mode doesn't have zoom
Superior my ass.

ro to se ka shi ma

Is that right? I never bothered learning it, only picking stuff up from leaks about games and SRW.

Her eyes and mouth are clearly bigger, too, so it's not just baby fat.

Questions
>English or Japanese
>Which settings should you enable (obviously tough enemies, but I like a challenging game, so what else would you select that makes it tough but not a rage-inducing grindfest)?

I want to pet this dog.

google translate says "rotozetashia"

The Gigantes in the Manglegrove no, but you can fight and defeat the Black Dragon if you grind an absurd amount.

Japanese, its basically a shonen
No EXP from weaker enemies and party wipes if protag dies

English.
If you're experienced with RPGs, hard enemies or less xp to make up for the enemies being babby mode. Always turn on Townsfolk Talk Tripe because

English. The voices are great other than Gemma's unbearable voice.

Just play the game. It's not a difficult game. The modifiers won't add challenge to it. All the modifiers do is make everything take longer. It doesn't change the behavior of enemies or add challenge.

You come back later. Not in the demo tho

>Passing up on English Sylvando

KYS

Tougher enemies just makes it grindier.

No XP for weak enemies just makes it so you have to rest more.

Neither adds challenge. Just game time.

>have to rest more
Absurd, at no point will you ever be blocked by mobs, it'll be on bosses that you'll get stuck. Without no-xp, you can always grind an ungodly time

I stopped playing the demo after about 2 hours because I dont want to put like 10 hours in and then feel inclined to restart anyway when the actual game comes out because there was a month gap. Demo convinced me the port is good enough to merit a preorder, though.

>Tougher enemies just makes it grindier.

You don’t need to grind for anything in this game, even with strong monsters. The game is way deeper and more tactical than you think.

t. Beat the game on hard mode and underlevelled

How does it rank in the series?

How long is the demo, again? I didn't play it yet (and I know nothing about the game's story so don't say "up to X dungeon" or something like that)

>Beat the game with Hard mode + Less exp
>Didn't have to grind at all
How can you be this fucking bad at a JRPG?
pro-tip: Bookshelves.

Same thing happens in the Persona games. If the MCs of P3, 4, and 5 falls in battle, game is over although you have other party members that are still alive and can revive.

MC death leading to game over is literally horseshit at times.

5 to 10 hours, depending how fast/slow you play.

I had 3 hours in the DQ Builders 2 demo before even talk to Marloth, just imagine how slow I like to play.

How far in do the Draconian challenges come in? Which ones should I be doing for a first run? Plan on avoiding the Shypox ones because randomly skipping your turns seems more aggravating than difficult.

Pretty highly

Before the game even starts.

None are challenging. Just tedious or frustrating.

There is something wrong with me. Instead of playing new games, I will "grind" money on fun-size forge.
>buy materials for Cast-Iron Claymore, 400 gold
>make +2 weapon that can be sold for 468, or +3 weapon that can be sold for 624 gold
>grind pearls along with it

They're activated as soon as you start the game. You can select them when entering a name for your file. Super Strong Enemies and Reduced EXP from Easy Fights are usually the recommended if you want the game to have some difficulty. You could also try out Townsfolk Talk Tripe for fun outside of combat.

It's sad that I finished this game, Clocked in 91 hours to 100% it and now I have nothing good to play.

Yeah there is. Money is a non-issue.

Weird, didn't see an option for it.Might check again next time I start it up.

So I can't delete the demo until the retail version releases?

If you want some challenge, hard mode and less exp are the two you want to activate.
Don't listen to faggots telling you it just forces you to grind more, you can get through the whole game without grinding even with those two options on.
I can't believe how fucking bad you gotta be at fucking JRPGs to believe the game requires any fucking kind of grinding.
+2 or +3 equipment and proper recipes are literally all you need.
Especially when you have (Actual spoilers) Erik pulling 4k dmg on bosses later on, and Serena being able to buff the party with +2 to something in 1 turn thanks to dual casting.

There's a prompt in the bottom right corner to press X for Draconian Quests in the name input screen.

>using slyvando at all
kys you fucking faggot

>Ladies First
>Oomphe
>Hustle Dance
Sylvando is based, you fucking self-hating queer

I never played VII but is VII longer than XI? I am enjoying XI so far and I played VIII and that was a very long game as well.

7 is probably the longest of the single player mainline games

>Farming Bunicorns for Bunny Tails x8 at the 1st bonfire before Heliodor
>reached lvl 14
>still not a single drop
b-bros?

Damn, 91 hours on the demo? Did you try to beat the sewer dragon?

I hate how expressive the MC is in this cover considering how dull he is in the main game. It's like false advertising.

He's pretty expressive in battle, though.

I was really excited they might do a World of Ruin but outside a few small areas and some fire on the ground the world hardly felt any different

japanese
the japanese voice cast is really fucking good

This. Ladies first essentially allows him to do what ever Serana, Jade and Veronica can do. I pretty much just ladies first into channel anger into kabloome against the final boss while Hero and Serena supported.

What went wrong?

>2 short cutscenes for shitty visuals whole game
Nintendo sucks balls.

Dude is just all around a great guy. His last questline with Sylvando is so insanely heartwarming and really made him a part of the group.

I think DQXI's cast is my favorite out of any game. Jade was boring though. Her moment in the shack was nice but thats all it was, a moment. All the other characters are stellar from open to close.

and 2 party members and 2 dungeons and more story.

Attached: DQ_VIII_3DS_Red.png (482x509, 219K)

Sylvando+Veronica tag-team cements Veronica's position as the best character in the game. You start the pain train with Channel Anger and kaboomle on one turn, and for every turn until you need to recast Channel Anger you cast Kaboomle twice with the possibility of magic echo procing with each cast for a total of FOUR Kaboomles in a turn. Complete annihilation.

shitpost all you want but I genuinely wanted to marry Gemma and was happy with it. I wouldn't marry Jade because the relationship isn't romantic. I wouldn't marry Veronica in either form because I'm not a weak man that enjoys being yelled at. I wouldn't marry Serena because... Well I would but I'd still pick Gemma.
I'd marry Sylvando just because that guy would give you an interesting life of sailing and visiting the world going to fairs and contests and shit.

Why Squenix cucks Nintendo with Final Fantasy all the time, but loves to deliver when it comes to Dragon Quest? Different development teams aside, aren't the corporate executives behind it the same?

Attached: 1508737668619.png (318x334, 52K)

I resented the new party members because their inclusion made Yangus the weakest link.

Red and Morrie didn't need to be party memebers though. Its nice they added them but I don't feel as if I missed anything by not having them around. They worked fine in the story I played. they serve their purpose to the story as is.
and seeing red in Yangus's game made it mean something more

>interspecies yuri

SE does not make DQ

You got got

Fuck you harder monsters is amazing and makes the game actually fun

So is this a switch exclusive? I heard the switch has more content? If not, I'd rather get it on pc

Attached: 6464.png (932x735, 1.45M)

Switch has a load of more content. Like a shit ton

The definitive edition is.

Probably a deal they made with Nintendo for getting the Switch version so late compared to the others.

DQ sells better on Nintendo consoles.

The graphics look worse but not enough to be a negative to me, I still routinely play ps1 games. Does it actually run well though? That is a real concern for me after DQB2 was such a shitshow. That game's design just screams "memory leak incoming!" though.

It runs really really well, even in handheld mode. If you played the old version on PS4, I suppose the 720p resolution in handheld mode in a few cases is noticable, but otherwise, I'm entirely impressed with how good it looks and how perfectly it runs

It's well optimized since it was built from the ground for the Switch. (Same reason people say the extra stuff won't go to other platforms)

i really hope this demo makes the sheep enjoy DQ so we can finally get the games localized consistently

all the main games got localized except X which was online shit

Glad it runs well for you guys! the graphical hit is only a minor complaint from me because I was legit wowed by the charm of the game world and its beauty.
When you guys know what the actual new content will be you gotta tell me. I don't want a posting of some jap shit I can't read. I want actual anons that played both to tell me the changes.
The lack of actual communication about the specifics makes me think it will be utterly trivial crap, but most DQ remakes end up with shitty new content.

The one game I wanted to play was the one where Yangus was a kid but we never got that one.
The bottomless pot does show up in Builders2 though (but with no mention of Yangus' world or any neat interacting like going to mini-explorer's shores in it).

>Gemma isn't really dead right...RIGHT?
No, she's not dead. You can marry her later.

That combo is pretty how i beat the last 2 trials. I know everyone likes to hype Erik up for his insane dps but having to apply poison and divide every other turn is super annoying and with the amount of status effects these post game bosses cast, the Veronica/Sylando combo is just more consistent damage.

So the Demo ends after the twins join the party, but will you be able to grind with them before it ends? Also I just spoke to the dead grandfather in Cobblestone so how much do I have left? I'm currently farming Bunicorns because they apparently drop items that raises drop rate. This is my first DQ game

Mario Maker 2' s dialogue is fine retard.
that image of the Eraser isn't even the same line of dialogue

Jade is only good for casual sex. Not marrying.

And Veronica should have been the canonical wife.

She doesn't seem like she would be a generous lover or very intimate.
You do you though user.

She is a femcel that lacks the ability to pair bond. I don't waste time on that trash.

Serenica should have.

>Serena
>Veronica

Attached: 1561241838545.jpg (628x788, 87K)

I really hope it has a reversible cover because this one looks like ass

When you reverse the cover there's just a chip and a speaker that starts to play the overworld them

Harder monsters honestly just makes it feel like a normal DQ.

You'd rather have generic CG models?

Attached: DRAGON-QUEST-XI-Echoes-of-an-Elusive-Age.jpg (768x768, 102K)

looks better than the shit Toriyama delivered.

>Didn't hold out for the double dipping version
Looks like you got got, user

does the PC version have a demo as well, or is the switch version going to be the best one?

the switch version is the enhanced edition that has content that no other version has.

Toriyama game covers are great. He packs so much detail into them. Its almost too busy but it always looks so charming and full of life to me.

For many people it's between 11, 8, and 5 as the best in the series.

>leaving out 4 and 6
Who are these people forgetting about these two games?

Not him but the Switch cover is just visually bloated, especially with all the bricks and bugs and sticks and shit as background. Plus it clashes horribly with the awful pink dragon in the logo.

>6

Considering that it's the first 6-10 hours of the game for free, the yeah.

Are we going to be able to switch from 2D to 3D anytime or do you need to make a different save?

you can do it at churches iirc

>King tells his knight to "investigate" my hometown
>oh boy here we go.jpg
>finally get back to Cobblestone
>everyone's fine
>huh well okay
>suddenly I've gone back in time and I'm seeing my childhood self
>jk it was a vision AND the village is destroyed

Your suffering has only just begun. Enjoy the rest of the game on September 27th.

She is alive but Verónica dies and you time travel to revive her.

Bro the demo ends after you finish the Jap town and the sheeky bastards made sure to finish the demo on the point of the game that you cant backtrack so you wont be able to redo shit you missed until you get the full game. Unless you want to grind she-slimes and friends for a month before the release.

She gets a gyaru outfit thats based off a DQ9 character

Attached: Dragon Quest XI Screenshot 2019.03.07 - 18.49.29.70.jpg (1920x1080, 601K)

Around 5-8 hours basically it ends just after you get a full party.

The only downside of the Switch version is that it looks last gen as fuck compared to the PS4 Pro and PC versions which look amazing. Specially the PC with everything maxed. The problem with the Switch version is that it's really blurry, specially in handheld mode but it has much more content not available for PS4 and PC.

So if I don't know a single fuck about DQ, is this the game I should be playing to get into the series?

Attached: 1538997927605.png (306x202, 40K)

Did they change camera mode in the Switch version, I can't seem to move the camera closer.

There's not enough Gemma H, I like seeing average Janes acting like sluts

The last DQ I played was 9, is 11 much better? I liked the postgame of 9 a lot

Yes. It's very newcomer friendly.

Sure, since it's the easiest to obtain since it new.
I don't think it's the best one though

I don't know where I picked up a pair of Fishnet Stockings but somehow they're in my inventory and I've just been bumbling around in Heliodor.
Anyone know what I might have done to get that?
I also can't seem to find the Mini Medal I picked up anywhere in my inventory.

Is that suppose to be a dog? What kind of ugly artsyle is this?

It in some old lady's house.
In a cupboard in think

You picked up the fishnet stockings in a dresser in a house on the East side of Heliodor. Specifically the house you have to climb to get into upper Heliodor after you escape the dungeon.

Bro Luminary is a classic DQ Hero so yes he can himself and cast your fire and lightning magic but you wont use him much for that. He will be your backup healer plus damage dealer. DQ Hero, ignoring DQ II are usually jack of all trades master of all. The reason you wont use much offensive magic is not because the hero is bad at it but because offensive magic in DQ tends to be kinda garbage when compared to support magic. Characters tend to have low MP and at least in the older games you had strict inventory management to deal so you tended to not bring healing items and use your MP for healing and support. DQ XI has a much forgiving inventory sytem and much forgiving save and recovery options so magicians are a bit more useful but still for boss battles a party of hero, 2 heavy hitters and a Priest that can also do physical damage are always optimal. BTW make sure when you get the full release of DQXISDE to have Serena use spears.

I feel not going Sword and Shield breaks tradition for a DQ Hero.

Nintendo tends to be the hand that pushes DQ support in the west since Square won't do it.

ah okay, thanks anons

Holy shit isn't it like 50/50 of the game? What the fuck

It really doesn't matter what you do or don't, even on the hard difficulty.
Sure some boss encounters might be a little difficult but nothing is impossible with what you're given.

How long is that for someone like me? ()

Cringe.

Based.

For real though the fucking modern translation for Dragon Quest is fucking garbage. There's times were I have to read lines multiple times do it's heavy use of local British jargon. I'm like holy fuck no wonder this games sell like shit in the west. I dont mind localization translating the meaning over literal translations but when you go out of your way to make shit up and change things just for the hell of it you have a problem.

The english voice acting is terrible in DQ11. So weird to hear royal english with a hard "r" at the end of a word.

Mini medals are shown in the stats screen. They don't go into your inventory for some reason.

>consuming any sort of Japanese media with English voices
Why?

Americans

So is this the first 10 hours or do you only get 10 hours to try?

royal english uses the hard 'r'
Its only the gutterfilth common class irl that drop it for the 'ah' like the pigswine they are.

If you reach the end of the demo it lets you save and just puts you back at the last angel statue, letting you still do whatever you want.

"first 10 hours"
Feel free to grind it out for 900 hours if you want.

I bought a second hand PS3 once off some poor kid and it only had dozens and dozens of demos on it with play times in the dozens of hours each.
It was a sad realization how some people live their lives.

too pure

Any news whether or not they'll release the Switch version's updates on the PS4 or PC version?
Seems kind of scummy to make them exclusive and expecting the fans who bought the original version to buy another console to play the updated version of the game.

Nothing?

I think most country folk in the british isles sound like that

>what went wrong
>Jade with the most
uhhh....Nothing?

I don't have that one

A translation has failed its primary goal if you need to break out a dictionary of international slang terms to understand what is being said. One of the DS remake translations referenced "bairnes" and I had to go and look up what it meant because I'm not scottish. I've got no problem with characters having accents in a game, but the TEXT should be completely readable in English. "Thou" and "thy" are fine enough to demonstrate they are speaking with old English. I don't need gibberish words across the screen. It doesn't help the player or add anything to the game.

The game being the definitive version is really just a "sorry" for being literally 3 years late. DQ11 was touted as coming to "Nintendo's next system" as early as 2016 with the 3DS version releasing

Someone tell me what this bags accent is, I can't for the life of me figure it out.

Especially in a game with instant death attacks.

>tfw at the last part of DQV and don't want to grind

I think its literally just mad libbed style of replacing the normal noun with something baroque, but also slightly wrong.

>reading spoilers for a game they haven't beaten

DQ9 was such a good game.

I like the green girl with the headband

Remake when?

You'll probably love her when you play the full game. She starts neat and just keeps improving.

I wish more JRPGs had a long period where its just the MC and the first party member. It always feels like the game is forcing a full party on the player pretty quickly, but here MC and Erik get to have a few little adventures all on their own.
It's nice.

If a game has forced you to learn something, it is a good game and serves it's ultimate purpose. People too stupid too look things up, or too lazy to like looking things up, should never feel rewarded.

Bros, I got this game on PS4 and put maybe 15 or so hours into it but kinda fell out. Is the Switch version different enough to justify buying it and giving it another go?

It has a free demo. Just try it. Though, honestly, I would mostly just try it out to see if the Orchestral music and the sped up battle system would tip you over. Otherwise, it's mostly the same.

if you didn't like it then nothing now will really recapture you
Its just the same game with a few extras that'll probably be no where near the start.

You're right, Veronica and Jade should swap places.

a game is an entertainment product, not an educational aid.

Gonna play the demo a week or two before the game comes out, having a month break in a rpg is dumb.

geez
from the thumbnail i thiught it was a loli exposing herself and her c*nny
ill play dragon quest

All games are educational aids. They, at bare minimum, teach you critical thinking, among other things.

No, they merely entertain. Anything you learn is on your own time and dime. It isn't the responsibility to teach you anything.
The original user was correct, the translation was too much and a decade later people are still talking about how they harmed the franchise in the west. Because it is right.
There is a reason it has been toned down to the degree it has.
There is a reason SE doesn't use that translation company anymore.

>No, they merely entertain
Incorrect on its basis. Entertainment is a byproduct. Games are challenges to the player. If you want "fun", go play with a toy.

I am. Games are toys.

I'm gonna marry her and have lots of loving casual sex anyways

Attached: DRAGON-QUEST-XI-Waifu-Jade-1.jpg (3840x2160, 1.31M)

It does have a sort of "LAST TIME ON DQ11" screen while it does the first load, telling you what happened last and what you should go towards next.

They're not. Nobody ever says "this toy is too easy" as a fault. Additionally, nobody calls Chess or Basketball a "toy". Go be a normie larper somewhere else.

Hmm might not be that bad then, still got some other games to finish so i dont need to rush the demo.
But yeah its a day 1 buy from me for DQ 11.

No one ever says they have to go study their game either.

people play with games. They say "I'm playing" or "I'm going to play."
they say the same thing with toys. You play with toys.

lolwut

You also play with other people and you also play with yourself. None of these things are related. The issue here is with the root word "play" rather than any distinction or non-distinction between games and toys.

Attached: Chess Study.png (1014x1423, 417K)

dragon quest XI's third act ruins the entire game

and when they play with people they are equating them to a toy and the interactions as a game.

Are you fucking 12 or something?

If you fundamentally don't understand multiverse theory maybe. You become the truest of true Heros in the DQ canon in XI.

So we should leave them in mostly japanese, then? Dasukate, hero-sama, save me from these yatsu! It'll be a good learning experience according to you.

>and when they play with people they are equating them to a toy and the interactions as a game.
No, you're doing that yourself to normie larp and rile up Yea Forumsirgins on the internet. Playing can also be used to play with settings, or to play around with something in the laboratory. It's not only associated with toys or childish activities. Just in the same way that one plays a football game.

No, when you boot it up it should just be the code uncompiled. You play the game by learning to compile the code.
You gotta learn amigo, if not, what are you doing?

If you play in the lab you won't ever be in a lab long.
>one plays a football game
>one plays a game
>plays a game
So you admit games are meant to be played and play is meant to entertain?
Got it.

What is Erik's accent? Doesn't sound like regular or north british, nor cockney, and it doesn't sound quite american either.

Attached: 37373728266262.jpg (1440x1440, 598K)

False equivalency. The scale of what is being taught and what is being learned is on a separate matter. But yes, there are coding games and there are language games that are there to teach you those subject matters at hand.

Also, it's "tasukute", dumbass.

>So you admit games are meant to be played and play is meant to entertain?
No? You play games against other people for the sport of it. This doesn't imply entertainment at all. Like I said initially, entertainment is a byproduct of engaging the challenge.

Polari. A mostly dead slang dialect that was used by British sailors and gay men.

Go play a game to entertain you, you clearly need a play break from Yea Forums.

>your post screams impotent anger.
lol projecting much? Don't get mad that I'm smarter than you.

Is it really false equivalency when it'll have the same amount of japanese as bad anime subs? No different from the amount of obscure scottish dialect.

Jade getting Boogie'd

>Is it really false equivalency when it'll have the same amount of japanese as bad anime subs?
Frankly, I wouldn't consider that "mostly" Japanese, but fuck it, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you didn't mean leaving large portions of the game unironically untranslated in kanji/kata/hira. I'd say in this case if the town/village/point of game takes place in a largely Japanese inspired environment, I genuinely think it's fine to leave simple words in as long as they're phonetically translated to allow the reader the opportunity to pick up the ingame representation of different cultures in that game world.

sporting evens are colloquially dubbed games you retardo.
Soccer game
Baseball game
Football game
You don't play an organized game (sport) to learn anything. It is implied you know the rules of the sport when you partake in it. Anything you learn is personal by nature and not the responsibility to teach you anything.
That is a big reason why teams that act like shitheads are looked down on. It isn't that they don't "know" how to play or act. They do and just don't. They have all the information at hand and still act less than sporting.
Playing a sport against a team that isn't on the equal footing you want them to be is always looked down on. Because the other team doesn't learn shit, they just get dominated.
Because the point isn't to learn. It is to entertain.

Find me a sport that isn't spectated in any capacity.

You aren't smarter than anyone dude. A well adjusted person doesn't hold onto the "everything is meant to teach" mantra because there are entire swaths of reality that aren't meant to teach you shit or don't allow you to learn anything from it.
Yes, you can learn things from a video game but to think you as a grown up are meant to gleaned knowledge from mario is just stupid my man. If mario has something to teach you, as an adult, you have the mind of a child. Not the whimsy of a child, you are functionally retarded as an adult.

Have you played the full game. If not don't read the spoiler
You reach a town called Lanalulu, a clear pun on Honalulu. But the town is obviously supposed to be from the ryukyus or the ainu

The translation is so borked they completely ruined an entire area just to fit a pun about a US territory into the game. It was the only thing I was legit upset about when playing. It isn't even stretching, when you get there it is pretty fucking obvious based on the clothing and building structure what it was meant to be.

So the Hero goes back in time and it's a whole new universe/timeline? And the companions who've stuck by you will now live out their lives without Veronica or the Hero? Because that sucks.

>sporting evens are colloquially dubbed games you retardo.
>Sporting events
Isn't this similar to a PC term to just be a catch all for any sport? Either way, doesn't matter. They all meet the definition of game regardless.

>You don't play an organized game (sport) to learn anything.
You do, actually. Not even engaging in the physical aspect, you also learn how to rapidly deal with situations and the agreed upon rules to achieve your stated goal of the game in the most efficient manner, which requires a different set of thinking.

And then on top of this the physical health thing.

>Anything you learn is personal by nature and not the responsibility to teach you anything.
The reason we play these games and as humans have evolved to value them is because they teach and strengthen the players.
>That is a big reason why teams that act like shitheads are looked down on
Yeah, they PLAY a GAME unfairly.
>Because the point isn't to learn. It is to entertain.
Entertainment is a byproduct. We are entertained by completing a challenge. Spectating is irrelevant, bystanders are also entertained by the challenge, but this too is a byproduct.

>A well adjusted person doesn't hold onto the "everything is meant to teach"
I don't hold that either. I just know that the purpose of a game, a challenge, with no stakes is to improve the participants.

>to think you as a grown up are meant to gleaned knowledge from mario is just stupid my man.
Not all games yield equal benefits. Nor should they, to account for motor skills and knowledge of differing ages.

I'd have to see the example and I haven't peaked at your spoiler. So I'll just acknowledge your feelings and wait until I run into it in XI when it comes out.

Yes, but on the journey you set them up with the knowledge and willpower to live a happy fun life and the world is saved. Part of that 100+ hour journey was seeing them grow into the people they are. You don't leave them stranded in a doomed reality with no hope in sight. You leave them totally equipped to handle their lives. They won't have you but that is okay.
