Mostly based on moveset and how much fun they look like when pros are playing them. When I get a new fighter I usually try to complete the challenge or arcade modes with all the chars I'm interested in before choosing.
First. I don't play fightan games
Second, the only one I own, I chose because of its god tier waifus. Pic related, I snuggle up against her warm pits every night since buying her game
most of the time I will pick a main based on if I think they are cool looking or cute
for some reason I'm also drawn to low tier / under picked characters to just to give them a chance that most won't
sometimes i pick a character that people say is either too hard to use or is too low tier to make effective
mostly because i hate jaded and cowardly people
i also like to pick on jaded and cowardly people irl because they are terrible wastes of space
>Looks, so cuteness/coolness
>if the moveset/playstyle is compatible to me
Need both to get me to play somebody
I try out characters based on looks, but stick with them based on moveset/playstyle.
tier
I usually really like characters who are based on some martial art, then it bottles down to if I want to mating press them or not
>really want to play a waifu
>can't, always end up playing a big dude or a monster instead
This always happens and I hate it
>pick qt waifu to main
>she's not very good, but stick with her because I like her
>game gets a patch that buffs her immensely
>now she is top tier, everyone uses her
>suddenly I'm ashamed to use her because I don't want to be seen as a bandwagoning tier whore
Hadoken
Shoryuken
Foot tornado
That's my main.
I picked King because he looked cool
A lot of female fighting game characters either suck, have complicated movesets or combos, or just aren't fun to play
playstyle > appearance
blazblue taught me that a character can look stupid as fuck but be fun as hell.
Reminder that Doomguy will be the next fighter for SSBU
all of the above
Big dudes and monsters are way cooler user.
Reject the cute, embrace the cool.
Maybe if you played fighters outside Capcom or SNK you'd know better than to say shit like this.
She must be as cute as me.
Playstyle/character design.
BECAUSE SHE'S CUTE AND I WANT TO PROTECT HER SMILE
Played smash bros for the first time since the first one came out. I picked Wario, the only thing I did was sit off to the side, and when a brawl started, I would drive my motorcycle into the crowd. It was glorious.
Why does Batman hate pie so much?
usually a combination of appearance/personality first, then try if the playstyle sticks with me
i always tend to pick the weirdos and/or large lad grapplers
I look for great one-liners
>there are astaroth players on my board RIGHT NOW
Usually I just pick a character with a playstyle I like and then develop them from there. The character design/personality matters initially but past a certain point it stops being relevant and I just end up developing a liking for the character anyway.
Up tilt is a guaranteed combo into waft, just so you know.
Is Chun-Li in the game?
If yes, pick Chun-Li
Meta.
Usually I start with appearance (often aiming for waifu but not always}.
Then I fine tune around playstyle.
I usually run storymode with each character, so story isn't important for my mains.
based degenerate
I really never saw the appeal. She is too masculine for me. If she was a shy and demure chinese fighter girl that would be way hotter.
>really want to play monsters
>they're usually low tier
Feels good when they're not
She is not masculine in any good SF game. She is just all legs and big tits. If you think a girl with nice legs is being muscular you are a fag.
Moveset > cool design > Good character theme > everything else > makes my pp hard
Nothing against waifus in games but every time I pick with my dick the character never clicks with me.
Her personality is masculine, like how she's a cop and is confrontational. Being meek but strong is a better combination.
I don't play fighting games all the time but from the ones I do play I usually have random reasons as to why, sometimes it's appearance based othertimes it's because I've played their games, or like their characters.
>SF4
Went with Makoto because she had a yellow headband and yellow is my favourite colour
>Soul Calibur
Went with Nightmare because 10 year old me thought he looked cool, and now I just use him due to range.
>Smash
Link but if Phoenix Wright gets him, forever him because I loved a lot of the weapons he used (Swords, Shields, Bombs, Boomerangs, Bow and Arrows) and even now I'll pick him whenever I can, although I've been using Richter more often since I finished a lot of Castlevania this summer.
>Blazblue
Tao, the appearance seemed really funny to me and she's got an annoyingly cute personalty so I just stuck with her.
>Darkstalkers
Hsien-Ko, loved her character in PXZ that it actually made me play the game and play as her, only played around 10 games but if I ever played against someone I'd play as her.
If these count:
>Jojo
Dio, love being able to stop time and would try to use it a lot in fights.
>Power Stone
Falcon, simply because he was the first I used and got used to.
Fuck you, I do what I want.
Mostly character design but if they're not fun to play then I won't bother.
Being a wallflower while out to avenge your father from a psychic tyrant is not wise.
always their playstyle first. if they happen to tick any other categories that's just a bonus
How many women do you know that are meek irl
That are good looking and strong as well
Sadly none because feminism has ruined them.
I pick the character I want to fuck the most. i main potemkin
I pick the cool guys.
I pick whoever I find the most fun.
I only pick characters that have proper "OOMPH" behind their blows.
>having a main
I just pick random every time. Would be a waste to play a game with many different characters yet not playing them all
>confrontational means masculine
Dumb westerner
For me it goes:
>playstyle/archetypes (grapplers are top priority
>personality
>story
>appearance
One of my favorite mains of all time is KI Thunder. He's a grappler and where his personality isn't much, the lore and authenticity to him being Nez Perce is pretty neat. I mean Mick Gordan went to a Nez Perce reservation and had everythign on his theme done by the tribe. youtu.be
People will pick what they like.
Appearance and speed. I want to go fast as fuck
>Those random ass moves like far St. Hp that made the screen shake even on whiff
I literally go by the rule of cute.
I like to main fighters who jump alot as a part of their core strategy.
So I pick low tiers pretty much.
Usually the weirdos or ones with unorthodox playstyles.
God this show was so fucking boring. Proof that fanservice alone can't carry a show unless you go all the way into full porn.
I'm the opposite. Give me the slowest motherfucker on the roster and give me super armor, damage, and range. I actually love when you get one of those grapplers so big they can't even dash.
unironically as a fast fucker, I enjoy playing against slow heavy hitters the most
This
Whichever I find most enjoyable. It's weird, some games I love charge characters and others I despise them. Like May from Guilty Gear tends to stay my main throughout the series, but there's also Street Fighter where I never go for any charge characters. Just depends on the game's fighting I guess.
