Yeah they went to epic after announcing it on steam. The initial developers were a few from Depth and they were even allowed to borrow some models from Depth initially to help proof of concept with the game and its early stages, some people from that community also helped test the game for them for free and Maneater's devs just went silent. Tripwire and then Epic scooped them up without that much of a word to anyone.

The gameplay is literally the same as that terrible mobile shark game, it's basically a port of it.
Yes, Jaws Unleashed was fucking great. A little jank perhaps, but incredibly fun and satisfying to play all the same. It gave you a lot more freedom in the gameplay than this.
