I've never played this game or any of its series before but looking into it I want to give it a shot. Is their anything a newcomer should know? What's the best way to play on PC? Also what other games in the series are worth or not worth a play?

The lore is pretty decent, pretty darn atmospheric and epic in its feel. Actually kinda Dark Soulsy as you more wander through the remnants of an epic story after its destruction, rather than be directly involved in it. Only thing you gotta worry about control-wise is mapping L1 and R1 to right analogue stick so you can move the camera as if it's a normal game. Otherwise, you are good because the game lets you know the basics like spells and shit, unless you would also take a suggestion to look up additional lore on a wiki or something as you are playing, not needed though.

Second game is decent, though I prefer the first. Never played defiance. The Blood Omen series is ok but it just doesn't get near the same aesthetic that makes this game so incredible. Just know it's dated though.

Kain refused the sacrifice
BWOOOOOOOoooooOOoooooooooooo

Shadow Man is like ten times better.

Thanks, I'm assuming you're talking about the PS1 version. Is that the best one to play?

I'm playing through the series right now. Just finished SR2.

DON'T fucking skip BO1

The PC version is fine. I've completed it a few times. The graphics are better than emulating it. The biggest problem is no mouse support, so you have to get used to playing it with only the keyboard.

>Never played defiance

I think every SR fan should play it just to get the conclusion of the story. They should just be aware the gameplay is shit, but the story is worth it.

It aged like milk, great Game in its time

>DON'T fucking skip BO1
I wasn't sure if I should play that one first as I don't hear many people talk about that one. I'll try it if it's required.

definetly skip bo1 unless you're an iqlet

To my knowledge Dreamcast version is superior if you can emulate it well. PC version is a "You mileage may very" situation because I was never able to get my gamepad to work with it and I'm not playing it with a keyboard.

I didn't even know there was a pc version lmfao. Well in that case TC should be fine mapping keys onto a controller considering the PS1 game never had analogue support anyway.

Thanks, in that case I think I will definitely pick it up.

I'll try the dreamcast version first then. unless it doesn't emulate well then I'll probably just either emulate ps1 or get the pc version.

it plays like the old tomb raider games but with vampires

If you want to know the exact differences between the different versions there's a pretty good DF video about it

Alright thanks Yea Forums, i'm off to go get this game to work. I'm still unsure about blood omen 1 though.

As far as I know it's not a particularly long game and if you can stomach old video game than you should be fine. If it comes to it you can probably just get a plot synopsis somewhere.

Soul Reaver is the only one I've played. It's like Zelda but with more block puzzles. Good as far as block puzzles go though.

I say, play through the soul reaver series and then decide if you want to give it a chance. The events of it get referenced a few times, but they are explained to new players in SR. Stay away from BO2 though

The combat doesn't feel like old TR combat though. Environmental kills stuff was rather neat for that time.
