Moderation in approach is basically dead and there's no middle ground between good and shit, and if there is, it's quickly forgotten/ignored because it's not "interesting". When it comes to games like Witch's House, Misao, Mad Father or whatever the heck game with "sick twist bro" people tend to overlook the rest of the game and just focus on ending. Gameplay wise it's all RPGmaker stock assets, but for example Ib had a cool idea to use both aesthetic and gameplay to fuel the narrative and atmosphere. I think OFF also does decent job at it too, though I can see where people come from when they complain about too much battles.

The demon even drops the harmless cat facade and explains the whole plan to Viola before the swap even happens, and Viola rushes in and does it anyway. It goes beyond being gullible and naive and straight to full fucking retard.

It's a series of RPG maker games done by a single person. Though the games often share the same characters none of them are related to each other and like most RPG maker games they're worth playing for the story since the gameplay isn't all that special. Since there a quite a few of them it's hard to do a general summary but most of them are about people just trying to get by during a alien/killer robot/etc invasion. Some of them are light hearted and silly others are pretty fucking depressing. Marathoning the series felt like pulling shit out of a mystery grab bag every time since even after playing through most of the series I had no idea what I was in for when going through the later games.

Towelket 1 technically the 3rd game in the series due to the weird numbering convention does have a translation, but it's a bit stiff and awkward. The rest you'll need to know Japanese to play.
