thats not hordes of the underdark

That's not Morrowind.

based

Based

can someone, anyone, tell what's so good about the Gothic games?

Morrowind thread
telvani or redoran? hlelu's need not apply

Redoran are boring but overall they are the only ones that can do anything good for Morrowind, Hlaalus are traitors, Indoril will just follower what the Temple says, Dres are weird and Telvani just want to be left alone
House Telvani is still the best House however

Everything makes sense
it's not "kill wolf it drops 3 gold and pants"

some people enjoy being punched in the balls

I love the well designed open world, it's tiny but feels huge because of the design. You also need to learn it in order to use fast travel effectively, instead of just opening a map and clicking.

It also does the social aspect really, really well, everyone feels natural and your place in the world doesn't feel like a static hero for hire.

that's not Gothic 1

i love these images

Wait, I thought this was a gothic 2 thread

I see what you did there.

You're more wrong than the Gothic fanatics ever were, though.

modded oblivion is still better than your precious open world trail follower. and G2 is a given

This is not Fallout 2

great expansion

you mean Planescape Torment?

I wanted to play Morrowing but i get fps drops with maxed draw distance in vanilla even with good pc
I've heard OpenMW is a thing and runs much better. How feature complete is it? Is it as good as Unity Daggerfall or worse?
I'm purist who only plays vanilla. If it's lacks anything i won't use it.

That's not Skyrim.
I say you just deal with it. My PC runs GTA 5 on high at 60 but struggles with Morrowind in some places, mainly cities.

I've been playing a lot of oblivion w/ OOO, it's tons of fun.
I'm sitting in my Anvil manor reading various books I bought form the First Edition, any recommendations?

how does the gameplay and the open world compare to skyrim?

in skyrim i really feel that i'm the errand boy of everybody, and that the open world is too static.

Lots of erratic bullshit happens with the NPCs, but it's toned down quite a bit.
Before they toned it down, NPCs would pursue their goals by any means necessary, including but not limited to:
>buying out all of the armor in the imperial city
>pickpocketing somebody and getting murdered off screen
>steal all of the food off of inn tables
>fight to help their friends who committed any of the above and also die to guards

I just downloaded it on pc but only ever played in on the 360. What's the easiest way of modding it? and what are the best mods/overhauls? I fucking love this game.

Is that gothic 4?

that sounds really cool, i wonder why haven't other rpgs tried to do the same

i guess it's to buggy and it would take too many voicelines. Anyway, it's 2k+19, it's about time we have more dynamic open worlds

user...OP's pic is oblivion

>every flame looks identical
bethesda quality

comfy. The anvil house is really great apart from that one weird dark spot as you exit the first room

I was about to recommend 'Where were you when the dragon broke?' Cause its one of my favorite reads but it doesnt exist in Oblivion unless you added it with mods. So i'll recommend the song of Pelinal instead.

but that's not TW3

>this shit opinion
>tripfag
just kys

They need to bring back the old mechanics from TES to the new one.

The games are to filtered/casual

>REEEE WHERE ARE MY RIGHT AND LEFT PAULDRONS

that's not the Witcher 3

I know a lot of people percieve Oblivion as the weird middle child of Morrowind RPG mechanics and Skyrims "Action-like" gameplay. But i honestly think that game did it best as long as you ignore the levelling and scaling which is totally fucked. Oblivion also had the best faction and side quests.

Is having mental strokes something you are proud?

Or is you guideline to bear the autism?

When I said anything about Oblivion?

Only said they need to bring old mechanics (Stats, Major/Minor Skills, Acrobatics, Climb) to the new one.

Uninstalled Skyrim bored of the same shit and same one trail dungeons, installed again Oblivion because have better things than Skyrim.

>map varied enough for you to identify quest location by one sentence description
>progression has excellent pace and gives you way more satisfaction than any modern rpg
>rewards for quests and exploring are valuable right to the very end instead of just bloating your inventory
Game is just well designed, no one nowdays gives a fuck if you're too op halwfay through the game because it's a dick swinging contest about which game has the biggest map

Oh fuck don't make me cum

I liked Gothic 1 but the last dungeon was pure mob spamming, so much that using cheats was the only way to bear it to the end.

I don't even remember much of 1 and 2's last act. Easily the weakest parts

No one mentioned gothic?

Wat. At that point you're supposed to be killing everything in 2-3 hits, the only challenge in there are the traps and figuring out where to go.

Newfag

you're the newfag bro. The pic is gothic 2 not even gothic 1

would lack to whine about lack of gothic and morrowind tier sicfi RPGs. why is everybody hates sicifi?

Attached: 1535347045059.jpg (2049x1025, 1.11M)

>anvil manor

that place needs better lighting and light sources.
and fuck that basement.

Big storage space in basement.

>play Skyrim
>go to Windhelm
>go to Candlehearth Hall
>inquire about this place's history
>"y'know dat candle on top of the fireplace never burned down, it's been burning forever. it's so unique"

or so they say because every torch and candle in Skyrim actually does burn forever.

fuck pauldrons. where the mysticism and spears at?

Torches (the ones you hold, not wall mounted) have a lifespan of 4 minutes irl

oops wrong pic

Attached: ScreenShot11.png (1920x1080, 3.46M)

Mass Effect is the only scifi RPG that sold well. Most people equate rpgs with elves, orcs and magic.

OpenMW is feature-complete for a long time. I recommend looking up a guide for open mw vanilla plus and go.

Small scale hand crafted world filled with interesting stuff, that sets it apart from other popular open world rpgs
It's also comparatively hard.

It is just Ra'qanar, the poor porter. Do you wish to beat me? Punish me? Make me eat your cum out of my asshole? Of course. Ra'qanar deserves your scorn... but pity this one, please.

what's the best way to play oblivion? I don't like the level scaling so I tried Maskar and Oscuro Overhauls but they made the game literally impossible to play. Why is everyone recommending those mods, is there something I'm missing?

Really comfy but part of the charm disappears when applying something like Bevilex. It almost looks like another game.

I've been experementing with changing colour and ENB settings to try and keep the vanilla feel. Pic related.

Attached: Oblivion20190822 16.40.40.jpg (1920x1080, 646K)

i totally agree. just got done finishing up installing it though, do you mind dumping your enb ini settings? im a brainlet and cant seem to get it where i want it in terms of staying true to the original feel

I'm currently running the Cyrodiil ENB with the following settings: My post gets detected as spam when i try to link to it. Any webpage that works?

And then i switched the enbpalette.bmp into this one: i.imgur.com/gnjfNpT.png

Finally go into effect.txt and change
>float NoiseAmount=0.25; into 0.0 to remove the grain effect.

Here's the ini: pastebin.com/mKAuRER7
Hopefully this link works.

this doesnt look like dwarf fortress adventure mode to me.

morrowind for playing skyrim for porn mods who cares about oblivion

>play oblivion
>take a walk through the forest for 5 minutes
>only come across 2 rats

shit game

looks great user

>Blowing half your game's budget for patrick stewart to VA a character who dies ten minutes in while the character models look like mr potato head

Oblivion had the best Necromancy.

I dislike both medieval/high fantasy and space/high tech sci-fi. I like low tech and gritty sci-fi like cyberpunk and post apocalyptic. My favorite genres are western and crime stuff. That greatly reduces the number of rpgs I can enjoy. I love Rockstar stuff but I wish they had deeper mechanics and questlines. I dream of a straight western or crime rpg game with the depth of a NV or DX.

I'm glad you liked it and that it worked for you. I found that while the base lighting settings for Cyrodiil ENB were great the colours and the grain effect were the most overbearing parts.

Wow, I sure love having to powergame my leveling just so I don't fall behind the level scaling enemies.

Attached: 1431409154180.jpg (1920x1080, 358K)

Oh I totally agree. Even after all these decades, Chrono Trigger has yet to be dethroned as the best RPG ever crafted for electronic media.
But Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 is still the best otherwise.

Attached: 636553390664380619-chrono-trigger.png (580x326, 362K)

90% of oblivion's "budget" went into marketing it.

oblivion is one of the shittiest tes games

character models arent that bad you faggot

Attached: 20190813230941_1.jpg (1920x1080, 208K)

level up once and rats turn into minotaurs

>Oblivion requires magic or silver weapons to hit ghosts
>Skyrim lets literally everything and anything work on ghosts
Why

My biggest issue with ENB is that it makes the sky look like a nuclear explosion. What is the point of installing something like Weather-All natural if the sky is barely visible because of enb?

If you train your punching hard enough you can also punch ghosts.

thats because witcher 3 is terrible garbage

>Witcher 3
>rpg

Attached: 1411604401638.jpg (1041x789, 422K)

I wish I could play it without it crashing to desktop every 30 minutes. I'm forced to play skyrim when I want my elder scrolls fix

brainlet

Attached: ulfric.jpg (641x641, 50K)

I love how someone made this image without knowing Slof literally modded in the fucking clothes of the guy this image was based on.

when did gothic 2 get so ugly?

It's better the way it is though

Well at least its better than the dullest RPG of all time. Each attempt Obsidian makes to create their own universe rather than simply deconstruct a setting made by others, has been more disastrous than the last. Aside from the outdated gameplay and lifeless cities, Pillars of Eternity's only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of combat mechanics, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Sawyer vetoed the idea of making anything at all innovative or original; he made sure the game would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody, just ridiculously profitable nostalgia pandering to ageing Baldur's Gate fans. Pillars of Eternity might be anti-casual(or not), but it’s certainly the anti-Divinity series in its refusal of spontaneity, fun and excitement.

>a-at least the writing was good though

"No!"

The writing is dreadful; the narrative was terrible. As I played, I noticed that every time I engaged in dialogue with an NPC the game presented me with a Wiki-page style infodump instead of anything resembling actual human conversation.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time this was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Sawyer's mind is so governed by obsession with pointless minutiae of the lore that he has no other style of writing.

Later I read a lavish, loving review of Pillars of Eternity by the same David Gaider. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kiddies are playing Obsidian games at 17 or 18, then when they get older they will go on to enjoy Dragon Age II." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you play "Pillars of Eternity" you are, in fact, trained to shill for Bioware.

Small detailed world
Starting hobo stages make you feel exceptionally weak, which most games fail to do. As a result levelling up and the resulting power curve feels insanely satisfying
Unique fantasy Escape From New York setting

>Modded
You should judge the game in the state the developers sold it in, not on how good mods can make it. Bethesda releases broken software and it's kind of unfair that they get away with it. I can remember the IGN reviewer jerking off Skyrin on release to the point of actually commending it for its glitches, saying they made the game more fun or some shit.

The wolf ate someone you dumb bellend.

You know better OP, you know this is bait

>wolf eats pants whole
Okay, bellend.

>playing gothic
>not risen

>It's time to discuss the greatest rpg ever made
So what mods are you guys running in Skyrim?

Fantastic, Dark Souls thread then.

That doesnt look like the witcher.... maybe i havent found that place yet.

This. Magechads, where you at?
don't@me swampniggers

really never liked how many forts, ayleid ruins, etc. are all over the place in oblivion same with enemies scattered around
think I enjoy it more when there's clearly civilized areas, like the patrolled roads, the areas around towns and villages
and then sections of the map like deep dark forests, the mountains, border areas that were extremely dangerous instead

>that's not the Witcher 3

>game where you are restricted to a single weapon type
>best RPG

weapon type in most rpgs is just cosmetic lol

I want to go back bros...
