As opposed to Mass Effect? Because Mass Effect is hardly a good example of sci-fi. The RPG elements don't even utilize the space opera setting, e.g. no skills related to piloting or deciphering alien language. They literally just copy-pasted lightside/darkside from their last game, kotor and renamed it paragon/renegade. And biotics are just force powers.
