Myself since I have people to play offline with, sometimes I get disappointed at how much I suck but the players being actually visible and giving me tips/cheering me up helps and after we just play casually with items and fling insults at eachother.
I lost motivation really fast online since I'd actually blame all other factors.

On Tournaments I’ve never had a bad connection. As a K Rool fan I stick with him but I have fun. Only people I Really lose to are Piranha Plants, and Zeldas but I don’t get upset when I get outplayed. Usually make at least semifinals

The buffering just contributes even more the amount of input delay and lag. I blame myself when the connection is crisp, but 70% of the time it just isn't the case.
