They just need to be reminded the original based literally everything off the show. The water isn't supposed to look like actual water, it's supposed to be goop so that bright color is stupid. Same for the unnecessary amount of grass which should have been saved for places like Kelp Forest. Even the air drop from the bridge is referencing the crashing pilot who drops his load from the show.

I really want it to be good, and I'm probably buying it even if it's not amazing; but I can't shake the feeling that it's going to disappoint a lot of people here.

I like the way the game looks except his sponge seems too yellow, it seems to lack shadows.

All those neat little details like spongebob getting a "bubble hat" when smashing through an enemy or his many idle animations are one of those things that tend to stick for me.

Spongebob is Millenial core. Millenial core = media that was made exclusively by non-normalfag boomers who loved video games, cartoons, and movies. Anything made by Millenials = Zoomer core(everything today is made by 20-30 year olds rather than actual experienced 30+ year old adults)
