Name a better series

I don't think there is one... MGS has the best aspects of many game types and puts them all in a highly polished package that defined the stealth genre. It has an amazing story with multiple running references between each one.
Not to mention running jokes, humor, great characterization, player freedom, good graphics for each game's era, nice music choices, good sound design, replayability value, etc.
