It's a lie. Those are screenshots from the same version of the game. In Team Fortress 2, the lighting on the class select screen is different for each map. Try it yourself at home.

You are only half right. In early versions of TF2, the left was always looking like that. The right does change depending on the map, but that in itself is a bug they have never bothered to fix.

Isn't it the spawn room lighting that determines how the class select screen is lit? I always thought that the reason it looks off in the current game is because some maps added since 2007 don't use the same bright lighting in the spawn rooms as earlier maps did.
