Blitzkampf indeed feels great. Glad I decided to download it after EVO. It's a crossroads between other doujin anime fighters of the 00s, 90s SNK, and Third Strike that gives it a unique flavor. fighting games were fun as a kid because it's a head to head spectacle with your friends and no one really knows what they're doing. and then you all get to be dicks to each other when you learn a spammable move and don't tell them how to do it.
but then I started to get a little too good (understanding the basics of most characters/chain systems) while my friends had no interest, so none of them wanted to play anymore
then online play comes around and I realize that while I could crush my friends, there way more depth and memorization required to actually be "good" and my years of inflated confidence and bad habits are set. Lets say you throw out a move. The move comes out in 4/60th of a second. 4 frames. If the move is blocked, it'll take you, maybe, 12 frames to recover. If the other person blocks it, and recovers from the block in 6 frames, they can attack you with any move that comes out in less than 6 frames, because you're still recovering.
A move that's "safe on block" would be a move that allows you to recover quickly so that you can't be counterhit.
Frame data isn't really necessary for most players. You really only need it if you want to get really good.

I'd argue that paid characters are p2w not in the sense that they are stronger, but rather that by not paying for them you deny yourself an opportunity to lab their offense and neutral, making it harder for you to win against those chars. Especially in Tekken and SC with their gigantic movesets.

I can understand this thought process. Considering that updates for DLC put the character into your data so you can fight them online, I'd like to see games allow you to lab the character even if you don't own them for Versus/Online/etc.
I'd save a lot of money on a game like that; I've bought bother FighterZ passes just because I like labbing tag fighters; I get my money's worth because I can easily drop 5-10 hours per character before I really get into team-building with them, but it'd be nice to have the option of labbing without paying. It's not like I'm actually putting Janemba in my main team, but I did enjoy learning what he does.

The actual core game play of Tekken and most other fighting games is based around the frame data and neutral. Knowledge and instinct in that area is the main skill, it's what decides if you are damaging your opponent or they are damaging you. Extensive combo knowledge on the other hand just allows you to eke out a little bit more damage when you have already successfully launched your opponent. It's nice to have, but not nearly as important. Just learn the most basic bread and butter combos you can and spend your time figuring out how to actually hit people in the first place. That's where the meat of the game is.
