Objectively San Andreas.
>Was a technological feat for its time,
>had a compelling narrative that embodied gang/family paradigms
>contained classic literary elements and themes (i.e. Self vs Society, Self vs Other, Self vs Self, a traditional heroes journey, a well defined call to action, etc.)
>Copious replayability for a ps2 era sandbox
>Flat, but enjoyable primary cast
>Despite the actual size, felt large and the mission variety (especially that which pushed narrative) was impressive
>The only repeatable missions felt organic to the world, not just a source for farming

It was a good game.

How dare you all impersonat memSoSnNnnNnigger

Fuck off boomer. Yea Forums is a zoomer board. Minecraft and twitterposting only.

Why does Rockstar's writing trio refuse interviews or to even be recorded at public events?

they're just a little shy give them a break

GTA III best GTA

San Andreas is the best.

GTA III is most-underrated.

Attached: Shoreside_Vale.jpg (1024x768, 115K)

THIS. It doesn't waste your time building a halfassed "empire" like in VC or with RPG gimmicks that never belonged in the series like SA. It's pure criminal simulator.

Attached: gta 3 shot.jpg (2000x600, 171K)

Vice City is better than SA, although really it's literally just personal opinion between the 3 that separates them. San Andreas is just too fucking big, Vice City feels more focused, like every single neighborhood is a fucking experience. Same with 3 but it's a different feel trip entirely.

>Vice City feels more focused, like every single neighborhood is a fucking experience.
Little Havana and Haiti were boring as fuck compared to Shoreside Vale in 3 or Grove Street.

Attached: vice city map.jpg (225x225, 16K)

Vice City Stories

No other game will EVER capture the raw and visceral spirit of Liberty City from III again. It's a product of its time, nothing will ever come close again.

I love the atmosphere of 3.

STOP DOING THIS

How droll...

It's still far more interesting than generic copy and paste country town #6 from the countrside of Los Santos or the grey shit smeared textures of Mt. Chilliad. SA is a fucking masterpiece but for me the sacrifice of size for coherency and uniformity of quality makes it inferior.

GTA TBoGT is probably the perfect medium. GTA IV was kind of dull. The driving in IV is also shit, but the last DLC made the world fun. Luis and Tony had great chemistry going on.

>Fog rolls in at the 3AM

>It's still far more interesting than generic copy and paste country town #6 from the countrside of Los Santos or the grey shit smeared textures of Mt. Chilliad.
It's on par with those considering Little Havana and Haiti are recolored copies of each other.

All of them are good but GTA 5 is the best.

Foggy, rainy GTA III is best.

Attached: Torrington-GTA3-southwards.jpg (1280x1024, 367K)

I need to see what Alderney would look like in the 3 engine.

Unironically, Saints Row 2.
Second place goes to San Andreas.

You have to appreciate a game that tries to let the player do as many different things as possible. You can't expect quality from modern devs anymore, so quantity is really the way to go. I would say these two games have lots of quality content as well, but the main draw of the games is the quantity of experiences, not necessarily the writing quality, the art design, or the involved and rewarding gameplay/controls.

Attached: Stilwater.jpg (1920x1200, 289K)

>Best gameplay: IV
>Best story and atmosphere: Vice City
>The most complete package: San Andreas
The rest are either downright shit or only good for their time, while these three are the only ones that hold up in 2019. V is decent if it's your first GTA and you've got absolutely no expectations for it.

this looks like shit. almost like they forgot to turn on the lighting.

>>Best story and atmosphere: Vice City
GTA IV and 3 respectively. VC can't touch those.

mission variety doesnt matter if most of the missions suck ass. almost none of them were actually fun to play

Simpsons Hit and Run :^)

The gameplay is pretty janky despite coming coming out in the mid 2000s. SA had the worst gun SFX of all the 3D GTAs.

The amount of hate that Yea Forums has for V just blows my mind. After recently playing through the games again, it felt to me like V easily has the best feeling gameplay. The controls feel the best, movement is the most fluid, driving is the most fun (I can understand why some might prefer the heavy driving of IV, but the driving in V has a nice race feel to it and is way better than the PS2 games), missions are almost all fun with enjoyable set pieces and great shootouts. Probably could have use more side content, but what is there is easily the best side content the series has ever had: great races with cars, offroads and seasharks, awesome car customization with tons of options, fun strangers and freaks missions and being able to own businesses and play in the stock market.

I enjoy the atmosphere of the PS2 games, but their control feels very archaic and stiff compared to IV and especially to V. V just feels like the GTA that is the most fun to just pick up and play, and pretty much every mission on replays is enjoyable except for a few. And I think its easily the best just for driving around and chilling out.

I lost

The real thing that still makes GTAIII one of the best video games of all time (for its time but still unmatched in that regard), is the sheer amount of freedom you felt. At least for myself, I had never felt so much control over the game. It felt like really controlling a character in a living, breathing world where I could do almost anything I wanted. For the first time, there was no punishment for wanting to go off-course and explore the game world to look at the little details, I didn't have to find ways of getting around the core gameplay to play with the game. GTAIII was all about little details in a big world, it was all about playing with the game, but also offered a solid game to play, if you wanted to do what was "expected" as well.
Nothing will ever be like that again, it almost can't, by conception.
What could honestly be done, that would offer a player a game world and influence/agency/options/freedom at least twice large or impressive as games currently on the market? I don't think anyone is even capable of conceiving of such a game like that for our time, let alone producing it.

Yea Forums just likes hating anything that isn't "le GOAT git gud" nonsense. Yea Forums has become reddit-tier in their opinions, endlessly circlejerking over the same 5 games that "will never be topped." (Dark souls, Half-life 2, MGS, you know, the "critically acclaimed MaSTeRpieCeS")

There's a handful of things wrong with GTA V, but it's overall a really enjoyable experience that captures a certain feel regarding post-millenial Los Angeles. It's social commentary is the best in the series (minus maybe the weeaboo commercial from the GTA IV radio) and its gameplay is solid.

People just like being contrarian to feel important like a bunch of circlejerking faggots.

The core issue people, generally, have with V is that it wasn't a an all-encompassing upgrade of IV. In fact, in many ways, the game actually regressed, see: Ai, physics engine, vehicle damage model. V felt like it had a lot less love put into it, it unironically felt soulless.

You have to realize that a large majority of Yea Forums nowadays are people who were kids during the x360 era, and this gta 4 was probably their first game in the franchise and the one they have all the nostalgia for.
I still remember so vividly how much backlash gta4 got on release here because of how much of a step down from sa it was.

>It's social commentary is the best in the series
IV's was better.

I'm now nostalgic for old Yea Forums memes

>gta4 got on release here because of how much of a step down from sa it was
GTA IV was a glorified tech demo, but a good one. V managed to have worse tech with very little gains in the actual "game" department.

Ok
Never mind the re-addition of airplanes
Or better missions
Or better controls
Or more weapons
Or better customization
Or re-addition of parachutes
Or re-addition of car tuning and modifications
Or the other shit I'm forgetting because I last played it over 5 years ago

does it annoy anyone else that IV and V dont let you change the music that plays in the safehouses? its a small complaint, but it would be nice if i could set the music instead of having it be set for me.

This but unironically.

>Or better missions
>Or better controls
>Or more weapons
IV did that better than V tho.

>he forgot the most important one: a pc port that actually works

I used to enjoy watching those creepy '''''easter egg''''' or mystery videos about GTA 3 and 4 that would be about things like the driverless cars or ratman. Decided to look at some equivalent videos for GTA 5 recently and they're all made by legit zoomer cringe and it's blatantly clickbait

Attached: Old_guitarist_chicago.jpg (800x1200, 167K)

>legit zoomer cringe
That's the intended audience.

Mate - all those features are nothing compared to the technical jump from SA to IV. Many of the criticisms levied towards iV regarding the comparatively small scale, no meaningful side content, etc were completely founded, however saying that V improved upon IV's formula in this regard is just plain disingenuous. All the things you've listed can be filed under "content". V didn't introduce any meaningful new systems, it didn't introduce a more sophisticated simulation, Ai or anything else. It was an immensely safe approach to the fomula that IV had previously established, read: a far cry from what people were looking for - a San Andreas on IV's tech.

Sorry user, You're either a child or a smoothbrain

SA is the indisputable champion, 3 was my first so i'm not biased. The nu kids are delusional and don't have a clue what they are talking about. Simple as.

>t. nu-kid

faggot

T. IV&V fan

>IV&V fan
Take out the V and add lll.

>3D > HD
never 4get

Delusional. I hold up 3 as the most soulful of the 3D era, but I'll never hold up the controls.

Fool, HD games have way too much inertia, The 3D games controls are tight and responsive. Face it, IV sucks ass man, No one loved it except new kids, Exact same scenario with V.

>No one loved it except new kids,
I started with 3 and made my way to IV and loved it for going back to it's seedy criminal roots, ya faggot.

>The 3D games controls are tight and responsive.
The controls were ass unless you had the game on PC.

great mention

don't forget vice city stories as well

It's the best game set in Vice City.

Anyone can start with 3, What matters is when you played it. Was it from 2001 onward? If so then you are definitively delusional. Not to see the progress built and removed.

Absolute perfection.

Attached: GTA 3D universe.jpg (1100x286, 386K)

Read this fag

You can tell it had loads of unused ideas from the other 3D games put into it because it WAS the last 3D era game.

I always found it hilarious how the Malibu is a complete irrelevance in VCS yet it's integral to VC.

Cope harder faggot, 3D GTA's controls were ass.

You're simply wrong. Care to prove it?

I could play those five forever and not get bored of them.

>You're simply wrong.

3,VC and SA on the PS2.

I still play them every year, The cunts who say they aged like milk wouldn't know a good game to save their life.

Holy shit I just realized it's been since like 2012 or so since I last lost the game. Where does the time go?

They mostly aged like milk.

t. played them once a year too

Cope? With you being wrong? Sure.
>3,VC and SA on the PS2.
Counter point. 3, VC, And SA on PC. The more common platform.

The one I like the most is Chinatow Wars.

Guess it's subjective then, Some people are more used to modern shite.

>Counter point. 3, VC, And SA on PC. The more common platform.
That was the point

VCS and LCS' controls hold up a lot better than the 3D trilogy, storywise too but can't compete with the aesthetics of 3 or VC.

>Unironically, Saints Row 2.
me too brother, the gamefeel is so good. It's also got just enough zane to be interesting.

the ps2 games feel so fucking stiff compared to V

What did you play them on?

I'll admit, I haven't played the console versions in over a decade. But i can guarantee on PC the 3D games are more responsive than the HD games

>3
Lmao, inferior to LCS in every way

That's was my point, it holds up better than 3 in controls and story. Aesthetic wise 3 is still better.

>VCS never got an anniversary edition
It still hurts

>Ywn get HD remake of 3 and SA.
Why even live bros?

Confirmed for shitter.

Most of the missions in SA were stupid fucking Mario party tier garbage. That dance dance revolution shit on the beach or the low rider contest come to mind. It is a fucking chore to play through whereas gta (3) has missions like here’s a gun, go kill this asshole or steal this car. Replayed 3 recently and it’s the best of the ps2 era and has none of the fat of the other 2 like go play dress up to increase your rpg points or go on a “date” aka escort mission and play an awful Mario party game of pool or walk over this icon to get money every day. Fuck off with that garbage

>Mario party tier
So, fun?

Tedious and a slog

Nigger. You better be false flagging, You sound like an IV fag in disguise.

Attached: 1566092024482.png (600x591, 218K)

V felt like it had no focus.

This thread has made me want to emulate III when I get home from work. The memories of playing it with my old friends when it was like nothing else we'd ever seen, just seeing what we could find and sniping peds. I want to go back bros.

It really didn't, It's built like a movie set.

Do any of the GTA's emulate well? I know most of the main series is on PC now, but I want to check out Vice City and Liberty City Stories too.

VCS emulation can be done but its not 100%, Not sure about LCS, But 3 on PC is pretty good, Not much need for emulation

It had 3 main characters. How you can focus on all of them without giving someone too much spotlight and leaving others underdeveloped?

I never thought having 3 characters was necessary, partly for this reason.

FUCK YOU
I'VE HAD A 3 YEAR STREAK GOING

This. I don't play GTA for dating missions or dance sims or playing yoga.
