Outsold all three of its competitors by a factor of nearly 3:1

How the fuck did Sony do it?

disck

PC crushed it in sales. It only outsold Nintendo and Sega because its a DVD player.

Of course a work/gaming machine would outsell a dedicated gaming system.

>PC crushed it in sales
I'd be surprised if it didn't desu

Piracy.

They were on a roll from the PS1. Every other 5th gen console except the PS1 fucked themselves over. Come 6th gen, GameCube didn't do great since it was recovering from the N64 debacle, it used mini DVDs and it didn't have BC like the PS2 did. And Xbox was new in town so Japanese devs barely cared as much.

If media was that important the Xbone would have crushed PS4.

Because it could play DVDs and people bought is as a DVD player

If the XBone costed the same as the PS4 and didn't launch with all the terrible PR it probably would have

Pretty much this. Playstation has always been the low-income console, appealing to families that could only afford electronics if they were all-in-one machines. It’s why the $599 pricetag of the PS3 was so devastating early on.

Because it had a lot of games everyone wanted

DVD
Also Sega was broke as fuck, the Dreamcast didnt did that bad, Sega japan didnt have enough money to keep the dreamcast alive, and the console was secondary because you dont fuck with the yakuza.
The Gamecube was a good console, but gamers were edgy as fuck in the early 2000s, also it was kinda a pain in the ass to develop in.
The Xbox did great, but they were the new player, aslo no Dvd.
But over all, Dvd won the 6th generation, it was a fucking great deal for parents if that fucking expensive toy for your childrens can also play dvds and its your 1st dvd player.

fifa

Good games

come on anons
you know that it being able to play dvds was part of the reason so many people bought one
that and little timmy could play those racing games he likes so much

Laser died out so fast you had to buy like 3 consoles/replacements in that generation

>Xbox generation 1
>GameCube, which had a bunch of kids games
>PC which wasn’t nearly as popular as it is now
That was the competition and the reason.

Psx was great. Ps2 was godly. Ps3 was shit. Skipped ps4. Fuck it.

jrpgs

PC sales don’t count

This is very low IQ. DVDs were relevant in PS2 era. Streaming was not an option.

It had games

Because the PS1/PSX was also successful, and you could use it to play all the games you already had.

into the trash

It had a staggering number of good exclusives after a few years AND got (almost) all 3rd party games that XBOX and GC got, which made it evolve into a shovelware-"everyone-has-one"-console, kinda like the Wii.
