If Yea Forums existed pre 2000s, we'd have a lot more western threads. Western games were fucking great in the 80s and 90s. They're just shit now.

Days Gone is good, hope that gets ported to PC later. PC gamers could use a real game like that, instead of the mobile games they're getting. And I never thought I'd ever buy a cowadooty game, but I might - 6 months after release when the ultimate edition is 50-60% off. About it.

I like Japanese games and they are by far the majority of what I play, but there are good Western games as well, lots of them if you look at independent studios.
Japan has the same microtransactional models and the same derivative schlock. The only difference really comes down to exposure at this point. You just have a lot of fake jaded teenagers who go further and further down the rabbithole of mediocre releases with bad art (bad proportions, sameface, bad tones of candy colored hair, same stupid high pitched voices, same bad shading with the shiny patches of skin because hurr durr fanservice makes it better). It's all so tiring - this entire industry is filled with garbage, from the East all the way to the West. It's turtles all the way down.

All the good triple A games released in the last two years have been japanese. All the west has given us is some indie titles and a truckload of triple A not worth discussing.

Why do western games fly under the radar, end up being shit or fail to have notable releases?

Most modern japanese games are AAA candy colored throwaway garbage too. Copy and paste the same tired designs, the same high pitched VA, and the same generic electric violin playing really high notes followed by a guitar riff and some female vocalist singing the same melodies over and over. Both these industries are lame. It is probably your inability to realize that the gems among the shlock you see in the japanese market have analogues to the gems in the western market - of course, unless you actually like the shlock and defend it.

Even when actually great western vidya like Ion Maiden cones out Yea Forumstards manage to shit up the threads even mentioning it so much you really can't discuss it anymore, it's like Yea Forums and simpsons

I actually don't play Jap games either, I mostly play indie and small studio games

I've played mostly small studio and indie stuff in the past year too. I definitely play a higher volume of Japanese stuff though. Touhou Luna Nights is comfy

I've been personally turned off from western games because they always try to have some unfunny meme shit or left leaning political cancer throughout them. Western devs are more concerned about a "good look" in the hypervocal minority's eyes who don't actually play the game compared to their actual customers.
Overwatch is the biggest example of this. The game was fun for about a week, got repetitive super quickly, then the company started retconning the characters to be fags to distract from and avoid the controversies sprouting up around their shitty practices and treatment of employees.

Because the west makes game videos, not video games.

It might seem like tribalistic "east vs west" but it really comes down to garbage AAA vs regular games, it's just that 90% of the garbage AAA is western and people get caught up about that correlation.
