fates (birthright or cq): best gameplay in the series and depth of mechanics bar none
fe8: alright tutorial, good cast, the story is pretty weak but its villain cast is top notch, pretty short, probably the most casual of the gba games due to infinite resources through tower grinding
fe 12: the best designed game in the series with a lengthy tutorial and very barebones gameplay
awakening: just play it, its good, lots of rng and flashy stuff, lots of focus on comedy and cast over depth of story, maps kinda blow chunks tho.

I don't see what was so bad about this one. The Sacae chapters were pure bullshit, on the other hand.

No one can really do that in FE6
Defense growths are incredibly low across the board, the average is like 25% and the highest is 40%
Dodgetanking is actually more reliable, but still it's dodgetanking so it's inherently unreliable
FE6 is much more player-phase based, which is why Swordmasters, Berserkers, Snipers, and Nomad Troopers are a lot better in 6 than they are in 7 (the first two also have 15% more crit than they do in FE7)

Clarine is broken and every enemy in the game will literally have a 0 hit rate. Also OP could just shove Lalum so her adoptive father stops attacking.

Shanna too, every axe user has 0 hit against her with an iron sword and like 20 with a lance

That chapter is nothing compared to 7, 14 and 21.

7 is only hard on hard mode
14 isn't that bad once you know where the wyverns are

7 is a good intro to the series for new players; it was the first in the US. That said it's overall on the low end of quality as far as Fire Emblems go. If you liked 7, though, go play Path of Radiance, Genealogy of the Holy War, Fates: Conquest, and Three Houses.
