Pretty good, trio bahamut is the best jrpg fight I had on my life.

Original 13 20 first hours are a drag tho, but some people like it for the characters and story.

XIII isn’t very good overall. XIII-2 is a lot of fun though and is what the original should have been to begin with.

If you can play on xbox, pc is kind of jank.

13 has amazing visuals, a nice battle system with huge depth in post game battles, it is extremly linear and the ending is completly nonsense.
13-2 fixes linearity, story is still meh, battle system is now with pokeymen
13-3 is pretty cool and the ending is not that bad.

XIII: looks pretty but linear, rail-RPG with atrocious writing
XIII-2: probably the best of a bad bunch
LR: looks shit, dumb time limit, cosplay battle system

You should get FF 13-2 and see if you like it enough to try the other three. All three are different games, and if you like one you might hate the other.

FF 13-2 is probably the most enjoyable out of the three. It's a game based around time travel like Chrono Trigger. Really good level design surprisingly.

FF13 is very forgettable, the idea is brilliant of stream lining the job systems into different groups that you switch on the fly, but it wasn't executed well at all. The last dungeon is the best part of the game, but playing it for 40 hours to get there isn't worth it.

FF13-3 is odd, lowest production value, feels like Majora's Mask but not a rip-off. Different battle system that's more engaging.

Just play XIII, the sequels are kinda shit. Maybe XIII-2 if you feel like it after XIII, but XIII is a stand alone experience really.

XIII-2 caries over some flaws from the first one, but corrects some too and adds some fun features. It's okay-pretty good.
LR is awesome, the most fun I had with a FF since a long time.

That 13 splitted the party for the mayority of the game and made the cast hostile to each other should give some credit to the game, no other rpg does this. FF 9 is the other only game that comes to my mind.

Caius is fun and that he somewhat follows the humanoid rules that you follow is kinda nice and that each fight is the same but adds a little something each time its pretty cool but trio bahamut is such a scrub filter, the fight is stressful in a right way

ff13 is pretty mediocre
ff13-2 fix some of the problems with the combat but the story is and time travel is putrid shit.... even with that is a lot more fun to play than 13

this one is pretty interesting, this game feels like a valkarye profile spin off, the combat is fantastic, the core of the story is pretty fucking good the problem is that it carry all of the ff13 bullshit with it.

it requires you to have a double digit iq at minimum and you either need to be taking your add meds or not have add at all while you play it so you can actually pay attention to the cutscenes for more than 5 seconds at a time, obviously these 2 requirements are too much for the average Yea Forums poster which is why they think it's a bad game even though it's very good

XIII - First 20 hours is garbage, tutorial after tutorial. Game picks up after that and becomes enjoyable, with its music and story.

XIII-2 - Story is an absolute mess, but makes up for it with its time travel shenanigans. Music suffers and is trash. Collect monsters to battle and train if you like that stuff. Post game has a lot of cool stuff to do. “To Be Continued”

Lightning Returns - Can really feel the budget cuts at this point. Story becomes even worse than XIII-2. Battle system is a massive step up from both games, unfortunately you only control 1 character, it would’ve been nice if this was battle system originally for XIII the potential is there. Game is short about 20-30 hours. Lol at the ending.

XIII is my favorite mainline final fantasy game.
XIII-2 improves upon it mechanically.
LR is great but I prefer XIII/XIII-2's battle system.

I'm a little confused at this one. How are you going to burn one person with both a microwave AND an oven? Like if you only have one of each, it's going to take a really, really long time to accomplish your goal.

It's so bad, please just trust me and not the other plebs in this thread. It has no redeeming qualities, even the characters are cancer.

13 is linear and frustratingly boring at times, but the battle system is pretty neat if you don't rely on the auto-battle option. It's basically a boring hallway but every now and then the game throws a really good boss battle your way.
13-2 lets you actually explore and is about collecting these crystal things while you travel through time, it's almost like a collectathon RPG. Only two normal party members, but you can collect monsters and have them fight with you. It's cute.
Lightning Returns is sort of like Square's version of Majora's Mask; you run around the world helping people with their troubles while delaying the apocalypse long enough to save everyone. I really like this one but it's not the most traditonal of JRPGs.

Overall I'd say play 2 and Returns, then 1 if you're starved for more.

Don't be put off by the critics. They don't know what they're talking about and are the reason no man's sky was a thing. DMC5 is an extremely linear game yet is praised constantly on here.

13 is ultra comfy. I loved Gran Pulse and how you see traces of a dead civilization, then FFXIII-2 went on and ruined it revealing there were still people all over Pulse. It would have been perfectly fine if it was just Cocoon natives building a new civilization on Pulse and the new conundrum is dealing with all the Pulse fal'Cie randomly creating l'Cie. I feel like shrugged off the state of Pulse fal'Cie in the sequel and just wiped their old lore away with all the time travel stuff and made the world totally disposable.
Type-0 had a better concept imo, aside from the time loop bit. It seems like the logical continuation of FFXIII with the new Pulse civilizations being manipulated by the crystals/fal'Cie to carry on endless wars. I read somewhere that LR was originally going to have ruins from Orience before they decided the games were unconnected.

XIII has the WORST writing in a big budget video game I've ever seen, no exaggeration. The battle system is pretty fun, not just mash x like some people say. Majority of the game is a hallway, look at some maps its ridiculous

XIII-2 Has mostly the same battle system with some improvements. I don't really like monster party member system, but its all right. Much more interesting world to explore and while the story can be kinda stupid, its at least light hearted and fun.

13 might be the oldest game in my backlog, I only got to rent it back in the day but I've always wanted to finish it. I've got it on pc but it gets randomly choppy and dropping it to 720p locks it at 30 frames for some reason. Any tips?

Idk what it is about this game but I've always adored the presentation and the music.

Also, any tips on the combat? Seems pretty braindead so far, but I imagine it will get a little bit more in depth as I go on.
