Russian translated interview, in other words Yea Forums's darling is another flop, you didn't fall for the Yea Forums meme did you anons?
About low sales and their future >Yes it is. And it will affect the further development in the most difficult way. Most of the team will disperse, the studio will again be reduced to a few basic people - exactly the same thing will happen after the failure of Eureka! >I think that, as in that situation, a small mobile game will save us. Only after that we will be able to take on the promised scenarios of the Bachelor and the Changeling - the studio simply will not have the technical ability to make them without money and people. >It’s also clear to me that by the time we get down to them, the industry will change.
About other campaigns and console release >Idont know. This is not possible to plan. It all depends on the composition of the studio and how we manage the last money (it’s clear that there will be less and less income from Haruspex) —that is, will we make the right bet. >I suppose that with this last money we will make a very small mobile project, and with the money that he will earn, we will complete the scenarios of the Bachelor with the Changeling - and we will do each in a new genre. Obviously, there are few who want to spend 20 hours again on a mediocre Survival for the sake of new plot twists.
Director and main writer about what's next >The team is likely to be reduced to 4-5 people. We earn money to fulfill our obligations under the Kickstarter. Personally, I am going to spend a lot of time studying. Obviously, I need to somehow correct my picture of the world.
Damn that is depressing. I bought the game just because I liked how the atmosphere looked but I've yet to play it, though I suspect it's my cup of tea. This is why games will never be considered art.
>This is why games will never be considered art. Why? The image of the destitute poet is a very well known trope.
Lincoln Perez
Someone get pewdiepie to play this game
Dominic Jones
He only does Minecraft. Sseth is probably the biggest you could possibly get and he doesn't seem inclined to.
Andrew Bell
>It's not a sequel
Then not call it like one
Josiah Baker
>we will complete the scenarios of the Bachelor with the Changeling - and we will do each in a new genre. Obviously, there are few who want to spend 20 hours again on a mediocre Survival for the sake of new plot twists. I can't believe the piece of shit that was the gameplay in 1 became a cult hit while the masterpiece that is 2 ended up being hated so much that the creators gave up on it
If they ever make the Bachelor path they should call it Pathologic 2 Remake.
Henry Nelson
Why would I bitch about epic financing the game? I'd just pirate it like a good Russian. It's the best of all worlds
Jordan Wilson
Makes me kinda sad, I tried multiple times to get into the original but I’m just too much of a brainlet for it.
Jackson Ward
Looking forward to it being a cult classic and meme purchase during steam sales 5+ years after the dev goes under. Glad to have bought it before it was cool and 5 bucks.
At least the kickstarter didn't fail and it never got made.
>Obviously, I need to somehow correct my picture of the world.
Sseth has almost double Mandalore's subscribers. And Mandalore already did one anyways so no point suggesting getting him to review it.
Ryan Reyes
seething
Jack Martinez
Same, I feel less bad whenever I pirate a game that's from Epic.
Eli Allen
Did he say anything about it?
Ryder Adams
A lot of people probably think they have to play the original first so they don't buy it. It is also quite the obscure game so some people are hesitant.
Adrian Long
Mandalore said sseth played a small bit but wasn't into it much but maybe he'd change his mind and just wasn't in the mood for it right now.
Blake Stewart
>correct my picture of the world
Don't. Transsexualism and lgbt pandering is wrong.
Landon Taylor
pewdieshitter is a subhuman cocksucker who panders and acts like a zoomer. I hope he gets pancreatic cancer and dies a slow and painful death subhuman fucking swedenfuck assbirth human feces trash.
Blake Murphy
I guess you're right but making games is a expensive venture and there seems to be no audience for these kinds of games. Developers will remain hesitant about experimenting with the medium since a single failure could bankrupt them, so there isn't any chance for games to expand beyond shallow platitudes.
Brody Ramirez
Is correct my picture of the world what I am afraid it is?
Chase Sanchez

Thomas Cox
One does wonder why they didn’t just put this out on consoles in the first instance like they said they would, thus earning them more sales from the get go.
Connor Thompson
when has an IPL game not flopped?

Zachary Williams
>bots are subscribers
Adrian Harris

Levi Ward
i fucking hate trannies so much
Eli Smith
Most of their audience is from slavland and I highly doubt consoles have a market for these slavjank games. Selling your game on consoles doesn't automatically mean that you'll be generating more sales.
Fact they had to break it into three games probably meant they were over budget already. Porting it to consoles is more time/money and really how many more purchases would that net them? I'd think weird art games would do best on PC
Aiden Phillips
Though being on more platforms does mean that there'll be more opportunities for sales but you'd have to spend more resources to realize those prospects first.
Carter Lewis
>mandalore has almost double of his own subscribers
Kayden Jenkins
>Most of their audience is from slavland Maybe Russia, Belarus, Ukraine and the Baltics. Can't say they're well known in west slavland.
Blake Parker
Sorry I only buy games on sale no exceptions
Andrew Sullivan
From what I know IPL aren't exactly the best with money management, and the feature creep made them delay the game for 3 years.
Ian Peterson
Uh... ok?
Jacob Powell
They are sort of know here but only around older audience. Zoomers gonna zoom.
t. Czech
Jaxon Ward
half of the posters in IPL threads are from Poland kurwa

I'm mostly the same since I already have way too much to play as it is. But since there was a discount for Pathologic HD owners, I preordered just to support Ice-Pick Lodge.

Really? I'm a Pepik and almost nobody I know has ever heard of Pathologic.
We cannot know for sure whether an immortal soul exists - however, it is worth behaving as if it is. The rescuer does not know if people are still alive under the rubble, but must work as if they were alive.
Don't spread hate in this somber moment, do you have no heart at all?
Ryan Parker
>game gains a surge of sales after the mandalore video >it was not enough to save the game
fugggggg
Luis Parker
Funeral garb.
Isaiah Watson
Funny i just thought about it yesterday, but didnt it release before epic started doing all this shit?
Samuel Hall
Fuck this industry. Any difficult and unique indie game bombed hard in last years.
Aiden Hughes
This interview was done before the recent surge in sales.
Alexander Miller
They probably shouldn't have called it Pathologic 2 then. Insane. Everyone who knew about and liked the first one would get the new one regardless of what it was called, but it otherwise had no name recognition that could benefit from presenting it as a sequel. All it would do is alienate newcomers. It's not a HUGE deal, but it betrays some really boneheaded marketing and business sense. It's a damn shame.
Kevin Thompson
We don't know about that since the interview was before his video. Whether it did or did not is more speculation at this point.
Ethan Flores
Knock Knock was their biggest success, Pathologic (2005) made a little profit in Russia. The Void got a good reception from the press and Atari was willing to give IPL 2.000.000€ for "Pathologic but in different setting" called Cold. The prototype was almost done but Atari went bankrupt.
Adam King
>make shit game >it flops See nothing wrong here. >bad optimisation first days >no balance at all(muh "just play more") >at same time game is slow as fuck, hard to immerse >IPL fucked up their budget, buying whores and doing nothing for years I think it's pretty much deserved. It's even worse than Kojima MGS V case.
Camden Hughes
Why don't you fucks just send him a thousand bucks in the mail? That's like a year salary for a russian.
Noah Lewis
one of the most niche developers. what did they expect?
Leo Parker
>That's like a year salary for a russian. To live somewhat decently in Moscow you need at least $2k a month.
Wyatt Gray
Tinybuild, their publisher insisted on calling the game "Pathologic 2" because they think that "games with 2 in title sell better". In Russia it's simply called "Mop".
Xavier Parker
Ok. So maybe ten of you fucks send a thousand bucks in the mail.
Sebastian Bailey
>Yea Forums's darling is another flop >you didn't fall for the Yea Forums meme did you I think you obnoxious TORtanic tourists should be fucking hanged. Sage and hide.
Ethan Cook
This is the sad truth of the world. Game journos always hold too much power and their reviews have without a doubt hurt the game way too much.
Even if it was just a thousand units more, every little proper opinion piece helps. Not an entire wave of dismissive articles that only paint the game in a bad light.
Joseph Perry
>at same time game is slow as fuck, hard to immerse FOAD
Anthony Edwards
Whiny faggots begging for easy modes caused this
Jace Nguyen
>we will never see The Void 2
this hurts so much
Michael Perry
I live in fucking Moscow. If I do this, I won't be able to fucking live in an apartment.
To hire competent employees you need to pay pretty much european salaries. Otherwise why would anyone stay in Russia if they could relocate to Germany and other western countries.
Charles Wright
i'm just saying it right now this is the only instance where Epic could have done good
Mason Price
I doubt Epic would have been interested in such a niche game
Nathaniel Evans
I'll bite that b8. What in the blue fuck are you babbling about?
Elijah Martin
Fine. Jesus. You, Moscow user, can move in with them to split rent and bills expenses and 9 other fucks can send a thousand bucks in the mail.
Caleb Young
This shit game flopped even harder then. But yeah, your devs got more money, if you care about this.
Hunter Young
This The DARQ dev already confirmed it mate. Epic is only interested in niche games but not niche enough like Pathologic that won't sell at all. Do you really think anyone outside of Yea Forums would have had this game wishlisted at all?
Lincoln Garcia
darq sold even worse
Blake Jenkins
Are we so fucking few? Like, so few people who share similar visions and enjoy what we believe is sublime?
Damn, staying forever on Yea Forums doesn't seem such a curse
Robert Rogers
>TORtanic tourists explain this
Ethan Brooks
Do not remember God in vain. But i think at some point after 10 years or (i hope not) less IPL cease to exist. It'll be a damn shame to lose such team of not programmers but artist.
True but that 2D platformer Limbo trash deserves it.
I'm just saying that the dev confirmed that Epic only really picks up games with enough of a cult following that will actually bag the game sales on the store. The first game was eurojank of the highest caliber and Yea Forums probably overestimated just how much of a cult following it actually had.
Ian Sanders
>Damn, staying forever on Yea Forums doesn't seem such a curse Unironically, browse Reddit some time. Take a shot every time you see a deleted post for no apparent fucking reason. As cancerous as this place is, it's our only home.
Sebastian Richardson
> a kickstarter game > free engine > flopped
nani?
Chase Davis
>I'm just saying that the dev confirmed that Epic only really picks up games with enough of a cult following How did that darq game had any following if no one knew about it until dev came to reddit with a sob story "i made this game alone for 3 years...and then refused to be on epic! praise me!"
Jacob Wright
What the fuck is this game about and why Yea Forums keep spamming it?
Parker Ross
It was clear from Mandalore's video that it was selling horribly and its future was in jeopardy. This comes at a surprise to no one following the game.
Michael Adams
I was almost done with this place then in the space of a few months we got regular threads for Underrail, Starsector and Pathologic 2. I can never leave.
Jason Evans
>free engine Okay lobotomite
Brandon Evans
kinda no surprise here they made a game they can be proud of, but it was obvious there isn't much of a market for it I'm really glad that at least it got to the point of release.
Robert Nelson
It was also a solo dev no?
Landon Cooper
Just some shill advertising, keep ignoring, game is shit.
Gabriel Torres
And the sudden resurgence in threads for at least two of those games are Yea Forums-blessed e-celebs. Just kill me, familia.
Brayden Wright
Yea Forums will fade to grey like the rest of the world. please do not bite that bait. please. As the elders used to say 'DFTT', don't feed the troll.
Evan Martin
Saw more threads about this than for Shenmue even though both are kikestarter, looks like a zoomer game.
Can those of you who are fans give me a quick rundown of why you like it? I was interested, but because of my horrible backlog was going to wait. I'm always willing to support a Dev who takes chances, and I have a few friends I can tell. It isn't much but it is how a turnaround gets started right?
Oliver White
No shit. No one wants to play pretentious garbage. It's even worse than Dark Soul's dialog.
Landon Jackson
>Spec Ops, Planescape, The Sea Will Claim Everything, Eastshade, Kentucky Route Zero, Norwood Suite, the Middens Trilogy, Killer 7, Hello Charlotte, The Last Express, The Dream Machine, DEFCON >Now Pathologic 2 >all flops
Adrian Watson
You're not fitting in.
Luis Peterson
I would've bought it if my PC could actually run it. But still, this is pretty fucking unfortunate to read.
Kevin Ramirez
People say video games are a serious art form and then this news easily proves them wrong.
Jason Ross
He was being ironic. He made the thread, he cares. Bitter humour if you ask me, but well.
On Yea Forums, it's censorship by noise. But the effect is the same. You have to wade through waves of noxious shit and mindless chatter to get to a single shred of signal. And it wears you down. I was always bad but not that bad, and it'll get worse.
I'm open to suggestions as of where to go or what to do.
Ethan Baker
>the industry will change. It wasn't the industry that changed, it was that video game "journalism" got even more monumentally shitty and casual than it was a decade ago somehow. Pathologic 1 HD has a higher critic score than Pathologic 2, how the FUCK does that happen?
Jackson Ramirez
Are people actually hating the game or just not playing it at all?
I'm sad.
Charles Jones
Devs think people actually hate 2 when it's journos being retarded.
Charles James
Some game went Epic exclusive but wrote in a blog post that he only did it so he could finish his game properly and actually release it.
Anyone know what the game was?
William Sullivan
Borderlands 3
Wyatt Nguyen
Oddworld. And in the thread not one person was complaining about the devs decision to do so. He was also smart enough to announce him doing so in a professional way so it didn't get shitposted constantly on Yea Forums and the rest of the Internet. He got his money, and if people care they'll either buy or pirate it
Evan Young
Don't have any other word to describe it other than it's pretty unique, can't think of anything i can compare this game to. It doesn't have a concrete gameplay loop rather than "you have shit to do every day and you have to survive while doing it". Janky animations but great visuals, art style and set pieces in particular. Atmosphere is great. Characters are nice to talk to and figuring out stuff they mean and say. Banger soundtrack. Choices matter except unironically, even seemingly small ones without any "black people will remember this" notification may and will be referenced later. Game is about surviving in dying city and it does feel like that until later in game when you figure stuff out and inevitably start metagaming. You can collect trash from trashcans and then use it to scam kids out of drugs and ammo, goty?
Jayden Brooks
For me, it's one of the only games I've ever played which lends weight to the idea that games can be genuinely meaningful pieces of art while still being games and that they can do this using gameplay.
Aside from being incredibly well written, immersive and atmospheric, the game uses its mechanics to actually challenge the player and force them to constantly make choices about practicality and morality. Games which have tried to do this in the past have failed because they treat moral choices like bland yes or no decisions i.e. you press a button to decide whether person A or person B dies and the game pats you on the back for making the 'right' choice.
By contrast, Pathologic is constantly challenging you by presenting you with a town full of interesting characters and then making it impossible for you to save everyone or resolve every problem. As a result, you're constantly making choices; firstly about keeping yourself alive and secondly about how much effort you can devote towards keeping characters you care about alive and pursuing the other objectives to cure the plague and resolve the mysteries in the town. Rather than deciding to spare Person A and kill person B, you're constantly juggling objectives on the basis of what you think is the most pressing at any given moment and you're making these decisions on the basis of your own judgement
Parker Watson
Getting exposure for your niche game is hard and sadly you have to dance to the tune of video game "journalists" to make it in this business. Even e-celebs are important when you try to spread awareness of your game, just look at this post by the devs.
This sucks. Admittedly they kind of completely fucked up the marketing and wasted all the goodwill they had for the original game by releasing this shit totally under the radar, and fucked up again by wasting time on an easymode in response to faggot reviewers instead of doubling down on the difficulty aspect (since everyone hates reviewers) and fixing their marketing, but it still sucks. Game is fucking great and I was really looking forward to Bachelor.
I agree although to be fair there was already a Pathologic HD or something, so I can see why they didn't want to brand it as a remaster or whatever given the huge effort of remaking it. I don't know what the best solution would have been but "2" was confusing and alienating.
Also I'd really like to play an actual sequel, in a different setting with a new story that explores the same kind of contradiction of perspectives in a unique way with fresh themes--for example a surreal Russian game set during a radiological disaster would sell like BANANAS right now and I can't think of another studio who could pull it off better--but now they've burned the name "Pathologic 2".
That was the saddest shit of all. ONE random e-celeb managed to generate more interest and fresh sales in less than a week than their shitty publisher marketing managed to do in months.
Noah Mitchell
Their shitty publisher what now?
James Gray
>not knowing this is a title given back in the golden age when men were literally men and not mutilated incels with mental disorders Shut up zoomer
Luis Jenkins
I don't even know if marketing exists for this game, so maybe that.
Benjamin Richardson
It is a niche game to be fair, and the publisher had no fucking idea how to market the game to people, but I'd say the journos certainly had the biggest impact.
Julian Butler
Getting exposure is what usually what businesses struggle with the most. If people don't know you exist then how will they ever try your product/services.
But marketing/advertising is the blackhole of business. You can dump endless amounts of cash into it and still fail. You need to do it smart and strategically.
Having that one guy make a video was a smart move but need a big dick player to plug their game.
Okay to be completely fair, I'd say it actually got marketed well considering it got reviewers and journos talking about it. The problem is that they got journos and reviewers to talk about it in the first place.
They should have targeted niche communities first.
The game is too abstract and too niche. What were you expecting? Last time i was buying games I had to choose between Pathologic 2 and Pathfinder:Kingmaker and i chose Pathfinder:Kingmaker. I'll always choose an RPG like Divinity:Original Sin 2 or The Witcher 3 over a depressing adventure game. Games like Pathologic are not for everyone.
Cameron Gomez
This interview was made a month ago when alphy was still at IPL, there's a chance it still might recover from the good sales this week and ongoing.
Samuel Williams
No shit westerns didn't buy it, it had qts like your depressed tsun childhood friend.
Marketing is a double edged sword coated with poison. Most 3A games today are nothing but marketing pitches, people buy promises and lies, the end product is something that never was or is supposed to be 3+ years down the line.
Nathan Wilson
Serious talk, are they actually kicking in the towel already? Don't games like these always have long tails?
I at least know there are lots of games on Steam/GOG and self-marketed shit that stuck with it for a year or so and reaped their efforts.
Asher Sullivan
> I'd say it actually got marketed well considering it got reviewers and journos talking about it. I'd say it's just content drought so they trying to find any piece of scrap they can rewiew, no big games released in recent months so they scraping the barrell. Also all of those jornos probably had it on watch list because it's a kicksater game and it would be easy content for them to make.
Julian Cook
>Not my kind of game at least That's all he had to say, not ramble on about the "wall of text"
Austin Russell
They usually do. Pathologic Classic HD got good reviews despite being a boring tedious jankfest, and even though 2 improved everything to the point of being a borderline masterpiece journos were too casual and gave it bad reviews for being too hard. >SOULSIAN >IT'S LIKE BAD SKYRIM
As much as I loath gaming media I doubt that reviews had that much of impact. The whole industry have changed, there are too many games right now, so it's very easy to slip under radar.
I doubt it will happen but kudos to Capcom for making such a game even a reality.
"Art" games outside of stuff like Journey and other walking sims are dead outside of the AA and indie scene. I once stumbled upon a random video on the internet talking about video games being art and the maker cited fucking Battlefield 1 singleplayer as for the potential for video games to have artistic merit. Needless to say I bust a blood vessel in my brain and I'm now dictating this shitpost to a nurse from the hospital.
Connor Wood
Outside of a few exceptions Sseth seems to prefer more mechanically driven games to heavy narrative ones, so it's not surprising that Pathologic 2 didn't grab him. I think the biggest shame is that Mandalore's injury prevented him from making that video for so long, he's probably the biggest influencer with a real interest in this game yet his video came too late to do any good for Icepick Lodge
Hopefully with a smaller studio they can do something more on Knock-Knock's scale to get back on their feet. Halfway through Pathologic 2's development it became real clear that they were beyond their original scope and putting a lot of eggs into this basket, despite being a sequel/remake of an already incredibly niche game. They're just too weird a studio to succeed with these fully voice-acted AA level projects
James Hughes
>The day is over. You failed to protect one of your Bound.
>be game journo >Sit down to play and review walking sim >It's actually not a walking sim and you have to play the game= >It's also hard >wtf is this bullshit 0/10 not cinematic enough
Logan Clark
Feels kinda sad. I don't like IPL and their retarded game design notions, but I would probably wish for them not to lose face.
Carson Jones
Yeah that's actually a huge point. I wonder how different the story would be if Mandalore came out with a video earlier.
>his video came too late to do any good for Icepick Lodge Staff on Discord said they spent several days only handling sales alone and that it was "a huge week for them". When asked about the interview and the upcoming content all they said was "the interview was before the new review video came" and didn't elaborate.
>russian entered an economic crisis and forced the game to be episodic >RPS went to shit and a shitter was the first person to ever review the game, making the rest of the review sites not care about the game >the one youtuber who could have give the game more exposure during the launch hurt his back and was unable to make a video until it was too late Why does the universe hate Pathologic 2 so much?
James Parker
Don't do this to me. Don't make me hope.
Ryder Parker
Always funny to see just how completely and utterly insignificant Yea Forums is. This game was shilled here to the point of comedy yet it still flopped hard. kek
Luis Stewart
It's still on page 1 of GoG's best sellers, which was the site Mandalore linked, not Steam.
Leo Nelson
>be an extremely pretentious fuck >back it up by making actually imaginative games How does he do it?
>sequeal to niche cult game doesn't sell wow who would knew
Colton Russell
Wrong pic, but yeah there are currently high hopes compared to that article. Interviews were a long time ago and they thought it'd be selling worse over time without a giant sales bump.
Women are trusting creatures are they not? I wouldn't be alone in the same room with this guy, never mind model for him even for all the money.
Bentley Moore
This is why the idea of accusing anyone of "shilling" on this website is fucking laughable. Nobody is going to bother spending their time trying to market to Yea Forums users because there's absolutely no point to it, there are no shills or secret marketing people posting. It's just people talking about videogames they like
Hudson Kelly
They've had a gigantic week for sales but are letting the article run without contradicting comment to try and grab more sales from people on the fence about it so they don't die. It's a good strategy.
Hunter Ramirez
It's too late bros.
I'm in full hope mode.
EVERYTHING WILL BE ALL RIGHT.
William Sullivan
Why? There are popular examples of every combination of adjectives you just listed.
But of course, you knew all along. Nothing surprises you.
Hudson Hall
>people think the game floped because its hard >not because it runs like ass even on maximum specs
Yea Forums is full of retarded contrarians who love shit games, hate good games, talk endlessly about the irrelevant and ignore the important. What's new?
Only certainly YouTubers hold shill powers over Yea Forums, at least they tend to pick good games
Grayson Ramirez
There absoultely is shilling. Not for this game, but for COD or Halo or whatever big game comes out next. Yea Forums is just another line in a checklist of a marketing company.
Jeremiah Young
Word-of-mouth is a powerful thing. The tipping point is very real and sometimes it just takes one little push like what Mandalore did to get the snowball rolling.
Colton Lewis
Alright lads, this games seem right up my alley after reading this thread, I'd normally wait for a sale but if the devs are struggling then I guess I'll just buy it now to help them out. Only question is if I should/need to play the first game before the second.
buy the second one the first game is interesting but you will be walking slowly, a lot
Ryder Adams
neither do you now go dilate
Juan Nelson
Yeah, now that you said it it does made some sense. It's like modern movies. Your movie will not making any money unless it's a Marvel movie or a F&F movie. I realize that most modern movies I liked rarely made money.
Jay from RLM said it right. If people prefer to watch an inferior remake of Lion King except with realistic CG, rather than a fucking Quentin Tarantino movie staring Leo DiCaprio & Brad Pitt, then it's truly the end of an era.
Jaxon Clark
>This is why games will never be considered art. ...and that's a good thing.
Easton Williams
No, it's more of a remake than a sequel and the first one is kind of hard to recommend to a newcomer.
Honestly I think the decision to call it Pathologic 2 was one of the worst things they could have done for themselves since it caused this exact question to be asked. There must be no small amount of people that put off buying this cause they never played the first, or they tried the original and didn't like it since it's a 14 year old masochist adventure. Should have just called it Pathologic again or put a subtitle or something
Hunter Jenkins
>you have to be a brainless walking sim to be considered high art in vidya academic land
Absolutely. In the article Nikolay says that they signed an agreement for big money with some company but the crisis hit Russia so hard that the head of said company refused to give anything at the last moment.
Mass audiences don't want to be challenged, they just want to munch popcorn while browsing their phones and occasionally glancing at the film when an explosion happens.
Henry Thompson
I honestly didn't know the game was out until Mandalore uploaded his review. :^) Bought it yesterday.
Aaron Allen
It hurts. It hurts Yea Forumsros. Pathologic 2 is an amazing game and just because some loser normie faggot """reviewers""" gave it bad reviews and because the publisher was shit it sold so badly, that the devs start calling their game mediocore. I am contemplating buying 2 more copies and gifting them to my friends.
it is a HUGE deal for such a game. only a retard would put more unneccessary barriers infront of the consumer.
Jaxson Carter
If it was not suffering, would it be Pathologic?
Ian White
if you have good connections or enough money, they dont
Logan Allen
I know you anons are living in the bubble but I suggest to read the comments. Icepick has and apparently always had a management problem.
Jason Russell
it is the antithesis of patronizing game design that is there to make you feel good about doing shitty fetch quests. as such the market for it is very limited.
>in other words Yea Forums's darling is another flop, you didn't fall for the Yea Forums meme did you anons? I don't judge a game based on its popularity like some kind of newfag reddit degenerate.
Austin Anderson
tiny build and it's marketing are what done it. one idiot reviewer doesn't have that much power
Mason Lewis
>one idiot reviewer doesn't have that much power It does when they're the first. Journos will usually dance around similar scores as other publications for parity. In this case larger outlets like IGN/Eurogamer didn't bother to review it at all.
Joshua Ward
didnt the game get the most shit on Yea Forums for its bad optimization ? who are you trying to fool here shlohmo ?
Connor Lopez
How would Epic pay them when they don't support their currency?
People know they can't take their fucking children to a Quentin Tarantino film. Do you know why so many movies keep getting pulled down to a pg-13 rating? So masses of kids can watch it. Children are a HUGE portion of cinema ticket sales, and so are their parents.
Meanwhile, dumbfuck normies go "I remember da Lion King" and go see it with their families. Bam, billion dollars.
Adrian Nelson
No you didn't fuck off
Jose Ortiz
I mean on DTF, they have some insight, the russian players know more details
Kevin Hughes
There needs to be a federal ban on mentioning dark souls and skyrim in game reviews.
Brandon Parker
I bought the game but it kind of sucks in terms of production values. For a remake its pretty shoddy. I don't see myself finishing my playthrough.
Grayson Torres
>Apparently >23 Aug That guy's a fucking idiot, this is not only old news but the Mandalore bump is happening RIGHT. NOW.
Joseph Morgan
COD and Halo dont need Yea Forums, you are fucking stupid if you think so.
Logan Roberts
The bad news about the state of the game is part of the master plan to exploit the bump and get maximum press
Gavin Cooper
It doesnt help that the Yea Forums audience loves to pirate. If you promote your game on //v chances are you get piracy not actual sales.
Daniel Morris
Word of mouth doesn't go very far if your typical consumers are NEETs with no friends. We need the phat normie bucks.
We need a big dick youtube celebrity to plug this game.
David Walker
>risk closing down studio studio and your sales for a plan that instead includes last minute emergency sale bumps. Yes user, this is surely what is happening.
Jeremiah Russell
Big dick youtube celebrity is incompatible with the audience for this game. It got a plug from one of the best people it could have hoped for, but it's too early to tell what the result of it will be.
John Gutierrez
>We need a big dick youtube celebrity to plug this game.
Yes but no. We need a bigger change. Experimental games will not survive if they all need a bump by big YTbers or e celebs. Not every good experimental game will have that fortune. Say what you will but i think that Steam recommendation engine is an amazing tool for indies and its only in the beta stage, Steam needs to give it more care. I found games i didn't even know existed.
Benjamin Parker
It'll be a shot in the arm and give the developers some much needed cash but they'll still be forced to make a mobile game. They'll just be able to eat at some nicer restaurants and wear name brand tracksuits.
Josiah Rogers
>They'll just be able to eat at some nicer restaurants and wear name brand tracksuits. They deserve that at least. This is all sad to see.
What do you think modern marketing agencies do? The way a big game is intended to be received is designed first, then cultivated. This happens using inexpensive saturation tactics. Even if a platform is relatively insignificant, that only means it won't require a large investment of attention, not that it will be ignored. Monitoring tools are automated.
Liam Smith
They chose the life of a starving artist, senpai.
Aiden Moore
Google translate of the top comment because i'm too lazy to actually translate it and it's all you deserve anyway. It's top for a reason, because people know what is actually happening from ex-employees, contractors, publisher, etc.
Well, guys, game industry? The total that we have: -Feature creep, which no one asked >Zero manager >Money spent before starting work on the game >Not yet begun work on awards for backers. Lol, “the layouts are ready,” “about to send it to the printing house” >“Crunch” (to stay until 10 pm, arriving at the office at what time >probably also at 10 - this is crunch so crunch, uhh). >Complete inability to function without external influences such as investments or kicks from publishers. >Broken deadlines, judging by the description in all departments, from artists to programmers; >Lack of understanding of how to delay development, while having almost half a dozen "games" behind the belt. >Entire paragraphs with the message "well, we are just a small indie studio, starving, it was bad" >When will the rest of the scripts be? "Well someday." >Something not a bug, then a feature, even if it looks strange, like missing / limited animations >Once again, the zero management Russian game industry in all its glory, directly. How people gave money for this - I can’t imagine. It would be better if they wrote books and made merchandise instead of games - then at least something might have happened. Where are the games, Dybowski?
TL/DR the studio is a mess.
Grayson Taylor
ok im biting the bullet. i hated the first one but mandy's video convinced me to wishlist it and this thread convinced me to not wait for a sale.
>How people gave money for this - I can’t imagine. It would be better if they wrote books and made merchandise instead of games - then at least something might have happened. Where are the games, Dybowski?
can't get behind this shitty attitude.
Tyler Green
And yet they made one of the best games I've played in the last five years. Funny that.
Sebastian Stewart
This. I already bought Pathologic HD which was a rehash of the original. Why would I pay full price for another updates version?
Michael Ross
>slav commenter complaining about "feature creep" Those additional features were what stopped it from being a mindnumbing slog for 80% of the game like Pathologic 1. Fuck I'm mad.
Alexander Perez
You tried this in the other thread nigger
Owen Gomez
What did you hate about the first?
William Taylor
>It would be better if they wrote books and made merchandise instead of games - then at least something might have happened. It sounds kind of pretentious, but there's some things that would only work as a game, not as a book or even a show.
Carter Campbell
I’d love to see iJustine do a let’s play t bh fa m
Hunter King
>well the pyramids were built with slaves so slavery can't be that bad
Logan Harris
The truth is that it's a shit game. Interesting concepts but the story was never actually any good. It was just an even more involved pretentious version of something like The Beginner's Guide.
Logan Hill
Exactly.
Chase Gomez
Look at this pseudo
Zachary Roberts
slowly walking around with absolutely no idea where to go or what to do and then dying of hunger
Mason Clark
The game looks like it’s about mime artists judging from your picture. Why would people be interested? No kerb appeal whatsoever.
The point is, they have no right to complain. Their demise will be their own doing
Blake Lewis
a stunning observation
Brandon Ramirez
>make kickstarter to gauge interest >get investor lined up >economy goes into the toilet years later and investor pulls out It's mostly not their fault this time around.
Jeremiah Cruz
Well you'll be doing the last one still if your a brainlet. A easy way to get food is to go to Notkin's and barter items with the girl who gives you toast and milk on day 1 and a easy way to make money is sell all your pocket watches and rings (dead item shop usually trades for one) to Grief because he seems to offer more for them and they go for a nice sum.
Tyler Torres
Should've went exclusive on epic store, lmao
Jack Sanders
>Their investors pulling out when the economy went to shit was somehow their own doing
William Davis
fucking tragic to say the least, superb vidya pure ludo
should have fucking went with microtransactions, lootboxes, dlc up the ass, fuck this fucking industry, worst fucking industry in all of entertainment, fucking slime tactics and kike behaviour gets you paid big and doing right and artistic shit gets you fucked, fuck it all
Tarkov was in development in the same time and they are doing fine, as well as dozens of russian indie devs
Jayden Wright
>gameplay is largely not fun (on purpose) >dialogue is ambiguous for most of the game (on purpose) >story is lmao there is no story (on purpose) so why are they surprised that no one is into this? If it was at least great looking, they would have that, but it's not.
You can't make sell something like Killing of a Sacred Deer, an arthouse film retelling of the myth of Iphigenia in Aulis, but also make it look like shit. You can't sell A Brief History of Seven Killings with boring prose.
You can't sell a game that has literally nothing engaging about it.
Landon Cox
yeah, but see you have to know that beforehand. "go read guides on the steam community" or "wander aimlessly, dying over and over until you bruteforce a solution" are not valid or fun game mechanics.
Benjamin Thomas
honestly yeah
Luke Bennett
It was made by devs of online shooter with pay2win feature. It worked.
Lucas Anderson
>dialogue is ambiguous for most of the game (on purpose) >story is lmao there is no story (on purpose) If you're going to shitpost at least know vaguely what the game is about so you can bait more (you)'s
Landon Hughes
IPL is one of the few Russian game dev studious that survived both financial crises of recent years. Making these weird ass art house games at that. How can people criticize Dybowski 's management abilities is beyond me.
Jaxon Cox
dumb ass. I understand your comparisons and have direct experience with them, but you do not understand Pathologic 2. You are a simpleton, and I am your superior.
Cameron Bennett
There might have been a contract termination condition, something to the extent of "if we don't send you any money by that date, the contract is null and void".
Dominic Allen
> The prototype was almost done but Atari went bankrupt. ipl has some sort of bad luck curse
Jaxson Long
None of these three things are true though, brainlet-kun. The game plays really well (which is why you have people playing this for more than one playthrough, Mandalore even mentioned this), dialogue is usually pretty down to Earth unless you're a complete moron, and the story is pretty straightforward.
You have to be an absolute moron to trust Yea Forums's taste on anything these days. It's literally been wrong on every game for like the past 3 years.
Michael Stewart
>Yea Forums is one person Based.
Daniel Kelly
Or you could just figure it out yourself baka.
Hudson Brooks
>"wander aimlessly, dying over and over until you bruteforce a solution" are not valid or fun game mechanics.
Jayden Gutierrez
Rip in peace.
Still best game this year.
John Hall
Infamous hacker known as Yea Forums

Go ahead, describe me the story in a way where you can pull someone in. Sell the story to someone.
You won't be able to
Thomas Miller
>User/AppData/LocalLow/Ice-Pick-Lodge/Pathologic 2/Settings >Open ExternalOptimizationSettings.xml >Scroll to bottom >Find >Change MaxMemory from 1000000000 to X000000000 changing X to however many gb's you want Some brainlet thought it would be a good idea to make it use 1gb of ram. This, can't wait for more based narrative heavy games from sony instead of russian bots and hackers :)
Henry Sanchez
Would you donate them on the Patreon or similar platform, monthly and more than $5? As I thought
Ryan Edwards
So what exactly is Pathologic 2 even? A remake of 1?
>games will never be considered art because niche and creepy russian walking simulator undersold and kickstarter didn't kickstart them into being full fledged development studio like they hoped
Pathologic 2 is a narrative-driven dramatic thriller about fighting a deadly outbreak in a secluded rural town. The town is dying. Face the realities of a collapsing society as you make difficult choices in seemingly lose-lose situations. The plague isn’t just a disease. You can’t save everyone.
The plague is devouring the town. The chief local healer is dead, and you are now to take his place. You’ll have to look for unexpected allies. The local kids are hiding something. Try playing by their rules.
You only have 12 days.
Parker Flores
Making a deal with the Devil isn't always a bad thing, they should have done it like the Oddworld guys.
>I want to be held by the hand >I'm also a complete fucking idiot who can't approach anything with an open mind You say "wander aimlessly" or "bruteforce a solution" but even new players can do well if they just pay attention and think about what they're doing slightly.
super brainlet
Ethan Kelly
>about fighting a deadly outbreak in a secluded rural town except this is largely not the story of the game
Jaxson Taylor
It's both a remake and a sequel, and no, you don't need to play the first one at all to enjoy the second one.
Dominic King
Dev responded about this already. Game does use more RAM, that's just an allocation for when areas change or something.
Luis Johnson
Dybowsky sect is irrational, don't even try to tell them their game is shit. >game is good >it's flopped because only very small percentage have good enough taste for shit game, and i'm proud i'm one of them, also pls gib money
Nathaniel Martinez
It's the basic premise of the game. It is the inciting incident and the main drive of the plot and condition of the world
Joshua Hill
Needs a bit of editing and polish but it's bretty God, senpai.
I would drop the part about the kids though since it's a big hint.
Michael Stewart
ok you just convinced me. im refunding pathologic 2.
Whoopty fucking doo. One brainlet less, who cares. Doesn't matter in the slightest in the grand scheme of things even if one drooling retard refunded a legitimately good game per every thread made.
There absolutely are shills here, look at cyberpunk where someone kept spamming the "You're going to buy MY game right Yea Forums?" thread with Keanu over and over and over after e3. A reimagining is how the devs put it. The intro basically makes out Pathologic 1 happened and you failed, now you get a second chance to try again. It's still fairly different and character get fleshed out more, like in the original Haruspex doesn't really spend much time with his bound, he only has to talk to Murky for one side quest and Sticky for a few sidequests. Now Murky is his daughterfu and Sticky essentially a apprentice.
try making something else than a shitty half assed unity remake then
the void and knock knock > pathologic
Austin Stewart
Nigga most of your time playing is trying to figure out a cure.
Joshua Torres
Good for you. Hope you enjoy Death Stranding.
Jayden Bennett
>i want to play pathologic 2 >boy youre stupid >ok ill refund it >who cares, its good
what is your endgame
Noah Cox
>we can't fulfill our Kickstarter promises because we didn't sell enough WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU THINK KICKSTARTER IS FOR YOU SUBHUMAN SLAV?
Either they're literally retarded or the game was a scam from the start and they just pissed away the money.
Matthew Reyes
You know Valve eats that payment for store credit and the dev keeps the money?
Henry Wright
>the weak should fear the strong outsider
Sebastian Howard
Lies.
Zachary Butler
Pathologic 2 convinces people it's not a walking simulator because the story is non-linear and you can die but there when the gameplay is as shit and bad as it is, what is the fucking point of having it at all?
Did anyone ever say "man, i'm glad the devs make you lose healthy on a death, really adds to my immersion". I get it, it's supposed to add to the ever growing plague, the notion that everything around you including you is dying. But that doesn't make the game any more engaging, it just makes me want to turn the fucking game off. The relief you get from stepping off of jagged glass doesn't mean the jagged glass you had to step on contributed to anything positive.
Brody Lee
>wander aimlessly >Have access to map markers >Can hold ctrl and fucking see the direction you need to go to easily follow them >user still can't figure out where he needs to go I wish the devs did what they wanted and didn't bother adding in markers to see more brainlets like you get filtered, jesus.
Oliver Bailey
Do I have to play the first game to enjoy this?
Elijah Butler
There is no endgame, I just like the game because it represents plenty of what I've always liked about video games overall and what is being slowly eroded in the gaming culture nowadays, but I'm not delusional. What the fuck are you trying to do, though? >look at me, yoo hoo, I'm too much of a moron to enjoy something that's good Uhh, okay? Congratulations for fucking yourself out of good entertainment, I guess. You go, bro.
Zachary Powell
See? Now you get the problem. What you do for MOST OF THE GAME doesn't contribute to the mystery that is actually being solved.
Ethan Baker
Yeah, like what the fuck, the atmosphere of their games seeps into the material world. On the other hand, not that many people like to suffer horribly in the free time of playing a video game.
Nolan Powell
if that's true, then the remnant devs already have that money
you're literally doing your best to keep me from playing the game though
Benjamin Reyes
Or maybe because a crappy cosmetic of a swim suit in a braindead mobile game made triple the game's budget in a week. Accept it, this industry is aimed at people with two brain cells who never touched a book in their life.
David Johnson
>about fighting a deadly outbreak in a secluded rural town >Making a cure to said outbreak isn't contributing to this somehow
Jackson Davis
more like the mainstream audience doesn't even register it's existence
Cameron Morales
because curing the plague isn't the end goal of the story, did you even play the game or are you just pretending right now?
Jonathan Young
Not him but how fucking spineless are you that someone giving you shit on a anonymous image board is enough to turn you off a game?
Bentley Bell
Then don't play it retard. Do you base all your decisions off an anonymous imageboard?
Jonathan Russell
This. There are tons of people that turn down Final Fantasy cause they actually think it's one 14 game long continuous story
Luke Hernandez
Health loss is miniscule. It's hilarious that people always bring it up when it's very rare that you'll health will ever reach the point that you lose when dying over and over before it caps out, you'll usually get knifed once or twice and be hobbling around on like 75% health after using a bandage.
It's virtually non fucking existant as an issue, it's more to get you anxious to simulate the tough experience that fighting the plague is supposed to be. How do I know this? I actually played the game.
You legitimately thought you'd post a refund image or dangle it in fron of someone and it would rile them up? It's your money and your potential entertainment that you're fucking up for yourself. Are you 12?
Nathan Reed
>reading is boring
stick to your CoD and fortnite
Jayden Sullivan
I highly doubt that.
Sebastian Sanchez
i obviously didn't refund it you simps
i bought it to support the devs and hopefully actually enjoy it more than i did 1 and that guy is butthurt about it
Want me to tell you how I know you didn't play the game?
Thomas Murphy
>niche game with god awful marketing flops
WOW O W
You know you're dealing with delusional artists who couldn't sell a cup of water in the desert when they give their "re-imagining" of the original game a title that suggests a sequel to a game nobody played.
Lucas Smith
I can't recommend the 1st one. It's very janky, slow, and old. Buy 2, if you like it enough you can try 1 out
Grayson Sanchez
None of that is something you need to look up, all I did was notice that people paid a decent price for certain things and Grief usally paid more, while one kid at Notkins place outright offers to trade shit with you and if you look around you'll easily find the same girl who gives you some food is also bartering for stuff, only she offers food. It's really not rocket science like your making out user.
Connor Wood
You know writing style could be good and shit. Sadly, this game have utter shit writing style, 0/10, going sleep every time i open this game(pirated).
Nicholas Jones
Seems to work both ways since he bought it after reading anonymous opinions on the game
Jace Hughes
>it's more to get you anxious to simulate the tough experience that fighting the plague is supposed to be "wow, great gameplay elements, really has me on the edge of my seat" said no one fucking ever
James Ross
W-WELL YOU TOO FAGGOT
Cooper Wilson
Good lord you are autistic. A story starting as one thing and slowly changing as a deep layer is unraveled is incredibly common, have you ever watched a movie before?
Mason Cruz
It's also there to encourage thinking about risk versus reward more, to prevent save scumming (which you can still do, just to a limited degree) and keep you more immersed. Don't know about you but I like the idea that my choices in the game have permanence.
Why do you people answer these retards? They're just baiting.
It's fun to laugh at a disaster when you're not affected, they're just trying to rustle jimmies and whatnot.
Nathan Smith
2 is a lot more polished in the "where to go" area. You get an easy to read thought bubble journal and MC draws on the map to show you whats important. You still have to walk everywhere but now you get a sprint button. There is also more things to do in the world. Hunger is still going to be a bitch to counter though and I would say hunger is the most dangerous enemy in the game.
Jason Watson
the title was forced by the publisher in charge of the nonexistent marketing though
Ryan Baker
Yea Forums has become expert shills over the years, maybe you faggots could put your dick sucking skills to some use.
Zachary Foster
which brings me back to the original point, the story is that there is no story. You did fuck all in the game.
Hope you find the game interesting and even maybe enjoyable
Jack Rogers
You don't need to play 1 at all, you can jump straight to 2. If you're really interested watch Mandalore review of Classic HD.
Grayson Young
if someone is smart they'll look at the arguments (and only them since "trolling" as an art doesn't exist anymore and you have people posting pathetic shit) and maybe give the game a chance based off on them, it's not like there are no people who lurk
Julian Sanders
They're jealous of his snazzy jumper.
Alexander Thompson
Seriously. More than once I've had people tell me irl they never touched an FF because they hadn't played the previous ones. There's a far, far larger market of normies out there that do not vigorously argue about the minutia of vidya on Yea Forums or carefully comb through reviews. 15 did well, but it took a fucking titanic marketing push cause that's all that really matters in the end.
Ayden Murphy
Cursed land
Leo Perez
Thanks for you valuable input. I'm sure people in this thread will take it seriously.
Ryan Davis
Hahaha fucking retard. Are you unable to grasp things on multiple layers?
Dylan Butler
Wasn't their idea, It was the publisher Tinybuild's. >rockpapershotgun.com/2017/08/31/pathologic-remake-renamed-pathologic-2/ >Ice Pick Lodge’s remake of Pathologic, their wonderfully unpleasant 2005 horror, has picked up a publisher and a confusing new name. The crowdfunded full remake is now named Pathologic 2 [official site], though it definitely is not a sequel. New publishers Tinybuild say that the name is, somehow, “to avoid confusion”. Right-o. >So what’s up with this new name? Alex Nichiporchik of publishers Tinybuild says, “What we referred to as Pathologic is now Pathologic 2 to avoid confusion between the original game, Pathologic Classic HD, The Marble Nest, Mor. Utopia, and so on.”
Joshua White
NO DEMO NO BUY
Blake Phillips
I think this is the first time where someone has legitimately been too low IQ to play a videogame
Jackson Smith
>brainlet didn't play marble nest when it was out
Joshua Rodriguez
why talk about a game you never played?
Joseph Ward
>can't even market that shit properly >game bombs who's the brainlet now?
Benjamin Kelly
It’s called The Marble Nest and it’s free.
Juan Lopez
>Yea Forumss darling Seems like Yea Forums has a lot of darlings. What's the significance of this one? Is it because hahahah funny youtuber covered game that used to be posted on Yea Forums? The game was never known for its success.
Camden Bennett
Give me the redpill on this Katerina Saburova, why is she suicidal?
Matthew Anderson
don't reply to yourself
Isaiah Wright
No one in this thread will be able to describe the story that isn't just "dude you're curing the plague" and that's testament to how awful and pseudointellectual the game is
No seriously, this thread will die without any reply to this post with a succinct description of the actual story. Bet on it.
Noah Williams
>animefaggot's opinion mattering Just go back and play your gachas.
Jordan Jenkins
>blames the developer for the publisher's mistakes I still think it's you desu.
Most artists were considered worthless throughout their lives only to have their art become really popular after their deaths.
Adam Watson
>why won't you spoil the game in a thread where new or potential players may be lurking the game has a better story than whatever game you thinks has a good story oh also, stop spamming the thread
I've watched almost all the movies of Sokurov, Tarkovsky, and a couple of Zvyagintsev; all great russian directors that have that sort of 'hey everything sucks here' vibe
And I still think the dialogue for Pathologic goes literally nowhere
Jose Clark
When the fuck did this play in the game?
Adrian Long
>For me, it's one of the only games I've ever played which lends weight to the idea that games can be genuinely meaningful pieces of art Dropped. I just dodged a bullet here, I was about to buy this gay ass shit.
The town is sick, you perform surgery on it and it gets better.
Dylan Ross
They took too long to release it and I lost interest when it finally came around. Happens with every game that's revealed too soon. Didn't help that I couldn't even open the beta/demo without instant crashes.
Brandon Nguyen
Because i can buy this game on GOG and own it, which i can't do in the Epic store so it's directly inferior, go suck a dick DRM fag
>half a dozen threads with an OP about the game itself: slow but comfy, loads of game discussion, almost zero shitposting >one single thread with an OP about game sales and how it's selling badly: fast, shitflinging everywhere, shitposters crawling out of the woodwork this place is full of vultures.
Gavin Brown
fuck me. i should have bought it instead of waiting to play the first. now i can't afford it and Pathologic 1 is deep in the backlog I wish I could have helped them, Yea Forumsros
>kills herself after having to live with the bachelor a week Bachelorfags are unbelievable
Hunter Cruz
It is significant yes but that doesnt mean newfags dont end up sucking an anons cock and talk about it forever just because he did. It's hardly/v/s darling because one user with a youtube channel talked about the original which revived the topic. Is starsector Yea Forumss darling? I think mandalore is funny and surprisingly not super cringe but that doesnt mean I think the slurping sounds dont get annoying.
Christopher Wood
/thread
Cooper Sullivan
Haha good one steppe nigger. They've since said the Manadlore doing his review helped with sales, it's still on the first page of GoG's best sellers which is what he linked in his video.
>A surreal, intentionally unnerving adventure game with Survival elements is unpopular Color me shocked. I mean I think it's wonderful this game could be made but there's no way it was ever going to be popular. It purposely does many things that will frustrate players.
>You can't just be the hero Characters are supposed to die in Pathologic, that's kinda the point. It's the pre-Apocalypse >You have to read, a lot Another big turnoff >You have to think, a lot Big turnoff >It's purpose is not to be "fun" in the most basic sense
All these things mean Pathologic was only going to get a small audience.
Christopher Lopez
Yes no duh they've been here for a while I'm not disputing that. I'm disputing the original anons attributed significance because it seems to be more based on an uptick that's happened since mandalore made the video. Hence why I say Yea Forums must have many darlings and ask what makes this one significant.
Grayson Carter
>steamcharts
Mason Reyes
That entire interaction was so weird. Hell, every dialogue with Eva was weird. More weird than most. Weirdo.
>It's purpose is not to be "fun" in the most basic sense This is the only thing that is a turn off to people lmao. People going "duuuuuude you have to read and think!" are ignoring the huge problem that the game just isn't fun and the story isn't really that engaging. It's more or less a thought experiment on the notions of pain and suffering and how that relates to living. It barely even has a narrative. Even the most pretentious arthouse films suffer if they don't have a strong narrative.
Sebastian Baker
She lives in a observatory who goes around with barely any clothes on, no shit she's a weirdo
>It barely even has a narrative you really need to stop talking about things that you don't know anything about, m8.
Owen Howard
name a single game with a better narrative instead talking about all the movies you watch, shitposter. Also, what that user said about fun isn't agreed with by everyone. I find thinking my way through problems fun, and Pathologic has that in spades
Michael Thompson
Eh, the same can be said about all kinds of art. Movies, books, poetry, music, whatever. There is always a TON of it being made, every single year, of which only a small fraction actually catches the public eye and only a smaller fraction of that actually becomes traditionally successful. There are many great movie directors and authors who've had to wait DECADES before their works actually made money, even if in retrospect people talk about how great their stuff is. The Pathologic 2 devs have nothing to he ashamed about artistically; they made a great game and time will likely vindicate it and their work. In the short term they might have to compromise and make something schlocky but profitable or close their studio but having a reputation for quality is almost as good as having a reputation for being profitable, especially these days when you can go around publishing firms with stuff like kickstarter and patreon and directly appeal to the audience you want to market to.
Easton Jackson
oh that's nice, i forgot it was on gog. i'll try to convince a friend to chip in and buy it together
Elijah Davis
and again, no one will describe it under the guise of "im just trying not to spoil it bro!". Next you're going to call me braindead or too dumb to understand while still not describing it.
Did you even play the game? The narrative is the driving factor and is pretty strong. You could argue that with the first since it has a lot of muddled dialogue but 2 is pretty straightforward of a story.
And yes, you are correct. The game isn't supposed to be "fun", its supposed to immersive. You are in a dying town trying to survive yourself while helping to alleviate the plague and cure it. If it wasn't hard it wouldn't be effective.
Michael Adams
It was in the top 10 best sellers nearly a week and just barely slipped out of it due to a sitewide sale
Robert Garcia
I'm going to yarr harr harr this game due to this thread.
>And yes, you are correct. The game isn't supposed to be "fun", its supposed to immersive and people wonder why no one cares about this game or why it isn't selling well
Jeremiah Brooks
so why then are you trying to argue how a game has no plot, if you don't even know what the plot is because you're waiting for someone else to describe it to you in a pithy one-sentence blurb? how the fuck does this make sense?
also, I did, and you ignored it. see
Angel Allen
>dad writes letter >come back to hometown >dad dead >two days into investigation, deadly outbreak >gotta find cure >gotta find dadkiller >gotta stay alive to do both
Hurr durr no plot hurr
Jose Foster
did you play the game?
Robert Green
Nobody wonders, every single IPL fan in this thread has expressed the same reaction of "this sucks to hear but it's not unexpected". We all know how incredibly niche these games are, but we can still be sad when they fail this badly
Grayson Long
wow the plague again, describe the ACTUAL story because no one will. No one ever will because no one actually understands it. Describe what the plague actually is.

Cool.

Pretty sure everyone who likes/has played this game knows it's niche and an unpopular style of game.

Isaiah Adams
Go start an actual spoiler thread if you want to discuss the story in depth, nobody is going to explain the plot of the game to you here when we're discussing sales and trying to convince the handful of people genuinely interested why they should check the game out.
Jose Baker
The story is finding out what the plague is, where it came from, why it's here, the politics of the locked down town, who trusts who, who's using who, random events that occur, the industrialization of a new era clashing with traditional beliefs of the earth. Are you dense?
Dominic Davis
no, he's just the moviefag
James Perez
The plague is just a nasty plague. Each character has his own interpretation of it. The story is about discovering the nature of the plague. Haruspex thinks it's magical plague born from the exploitation of earth. And you're never getting the other two.
Colton Sullivan
First this shit bombing. Then, directly after it, Ion Maiden failing to get any significant foothold.
Those games were specifically designed to establish cult following. They clearly did not.
The tide is, dare I say, turning, my dudes. The tide is FUCKING turning.
Keep your eyes open, bros. I know you are reading this. This wasn't nearly the last of those fuckers. Think for yourselves, believe your own eyes first and foremost.
Ryder Bell
Best post in the thread. The devs shat the bet in thinking that not fun = boring. There have been multiple games that are not fun but have engaging gameplay, the first game was filled with unengaging sections that were just walking for long periods of time. A book with 15 pages of uninterestingand redundant prose between the good parts would be seen as pretentious garbage by everyone with a brain, same with a movie with 15 of dull, uneventful cinematography. The second game fixes some issues but poor optimization and still lackluster gameplay hurt it hard. >B-but Mandalore! Disgusting, the dick sucking for everyone giving this game some attention is so ridiculous, its almost as if actual shills were in this thread making such posts.
Evan Cooper
>actual good game >it flops >meanwhile garbage AAA generic trash, forever rehashed multiplayer skinner box and anime tits hentai games fucking THRIVE
I'm so incredibly tired of this. Whenever something good happens in the medium at this point you know it's an anomaly and that it will severely get fucked or not have any follow up. I remember also reading Arkane's CEO saying after the commercial failure that Prey was, they were never going to try to make another immersive sim because "that's not what the people want to play". It's honestly depressing, I struggle to not become jaded and bitter about it all.
Kevin Hughes
>getting this mad over people liking thing you don't like
Aaron Ramirez
Same.
Jack Sanders
>Never any food in the kitchens
i wonder why, not like fucking CONTEXT matters
game journos are cancer
Grayson Cox
>I watched these movies so you know I'm a intellectual and my opinion is important
Henry Thompson
Ion Maiden is doing fine though
Nicholas Morgan
Oh yeah, Prey effectively bombed too, didn't it? Good shit.
These are forgeries of contemporary art. They should've flown with flying colours. They just should've. They haven't against all odds. I genuinely hope the like of this continues happening.
Justin Hall
the updates fixed a lot of the optimization issues i heard.
Leo Johnson
so the plague isn't the story, correct? because if the plague was part of the story then you wouldn't state that the two required two separate explanations
Jonathan Bailey
No it's not. Prove it's not bombing.
Caleb Cruz
They decided to forego widely considered "fun" gameplay for timed events and difficult survival elements. If they made the sequel to make money and not just to make a decent game then they can only blame themselves desu
Adrian Williams
Hey, this game wouldn't exist without anime tits hentai games so show some fucking respect, kid.
Jacob Wright
I dunno, I know it's supposed to be a funeral garb but the contrast looks really nice. I think it's tasteful for the context. It made me think in that Fantasia movie I saw when I was a teen, power and purity and all that. >Pic related
What are some games you do enjoy and wish to see succeed user?
Bentley Jenkins
Yeah, but making a good game that didn't sell won't keep the lights on, user.
Aaron Howard
You sound really butthurt that someone watched legitimate arthouse stuff that is widely acclaimed while you're backing some failed pseudointellectual game
Robert Anderson
Smash
Isaiah Flores
The plague is the premise of the story. No it is not the whole story because more is revealed as you play. Just like how the premise of Lord of the Rings is that a ring needs to be destroyed, but that's not the whole story.
What part of this continues to confuse you?
Josiah Mitchell
There was an ambition of establishing "This is how Actual Level Design is supposed to look like". It was clearly toward being a textbook for mappers.
No discernible reaction.
Not a single fuck given.
None.
And that is awesome.
Leo Williams
Nice samefag dude.
Carter Cox
Did you read any russian classical stage plays? Because this is literally written like a stage play. >Sokurov, Tarkovsky, Zvyagintsev Those are from commie era. You need like Dostoyevsky and earlier.
Xavier Morales
>bringing up escapist shit like Tolkien Reddit af
Samuel Gutierrez
Pretentious Western trash like this and Planescape i'm super glad are such failures.
DMC5, Sekiro, and Resident Evil 2 are the best games of the year deal with it faggots.
>forgeries of contemporary art what the fuck do you mean you pretentious gag?
it's a part of the story, but the whole story is much, much larger and more complex.
Austin Walker
>literally nothing
Grayson Cox
lmao what the fuck is this even supposed to mean you "This is more of a comment than a question" front-row sitting motherfucker
John Adams
I am not mad, I'm just setting the record straight regarding this game. I wanted to like it since I enjoy stories like this and the story has plenty of interesting ideas. However, the flaws I stated are critical and they should not be ignored. And seeing people treating Mandalore's words as gospel is just disgusting. He's just an okayish youtuber.
Nolan Butler
Remember this next time you bitch about every adventure game being a low effort walking simulator with the same stupid plot.
Jeremiah Lewis
>the worst numbers from incomplete data on one storefront show 3k sales over 5 days, a near 20% increase in total owners Is this supposed to be bad?
Levi Ross
>ONE random e-celeb managed to generate more interest and fresh sales in less than a week than their shitty publisher marketing managed to do in months. I wish this was a rare thing, though. You have no idea how commonplace it is for publishers to not give a fuck or simply be ignorant of how to sell a game. Sure, it mostly happens to small projects, but sometimes even larger ones get hit by it. To this day best characterization for PREY is "Bioshock in space" because Bethesda had no idea how to sell it.
THEY ACTUALLY WANTED TO NOT ADD MARKERS LOL(it was in the interview on dtf)
Luke Powell
>that someone talking about yourself in third person is a sign of being a fag
>hah, you mentioned something I don't like, now I can stick my fingers in my ears and pretend you aren't right
Carson Torres
>make vn-like game >also make it hardware heavy(intended), with shit optimisation for "muh graphics" What does Dybowsky even meant?
James Gray
And you sound like a faggot who wants to brag about how big brained he is like a attention whore.
Jace Hall
Plagiatrized shit served as the Second Coming of Christ, coaplaying conveying sense despite being a remix made from quotes without any idea of what those quotes are talking about. An artistic Frankenstein tried to be passed for the product of genuine inspiration. A thorough and expensive attempt at pseudery.
Ayden Diaz
Average European IQ.
Colton Bell
>steam >when he linked GoG in his video and it's still on page 1 of GoG's top sellers Based retard.
Tyler Lopez
>And seeing people treating Mandalore's words as gospel is just disgusting That's not even what's happening. Arguing that the game has no story and nothing going on is a complete fabrication. The game throws more plot threads and quests at you than you can beat in a single in-game day to make you choose which things to follow up on on your own. A large amount of shitposters either think this is Pathologic 1 again or a pure empty walking sim.
Parker Bennett
>DMCV 2 hours played >Sekiro 4 hours played >Pathologic2 40 hours played >AOW: planetfall 100 hours played Feels good to be a brainchad.
Hudson Watson
Mods to give the D to the females of the steppes when? I won't consider a purchase before.
Chase Stewart
You sound pretty mad bro but sure.
Benjamin Parker
Go read Spinoza you goddammed failure
Angel Clark
You're aware the green bar is just the devs posting that on the Steam news page right? That entire climbing increase is the sales bump still going on.
Aaron Walker
you're pretty good at saying nothing in so many words. ever thought about getting a job as a games journalist?
Ryder Perez
I hope you enjoy it.
Henry Wilson
oh my god this is the most up your own ass wannabe youtube essayist shit I've ever read
Chase Perry
>AoWP
My nigga
Justin Gonzalez
omg
because literally any story can be described in 1 sentence. It's all about execution which is gr8 in pathologic2
Charles Evans
Okay now cite where and what you're referring to you fucking failure of a Comp Lit major
Joshua Jackson
I rephrase myself a lot to make the understanding of general idea more likely.
Adrian Hernandez
Wait, Jordan Peterson is on Yea Forums now? Cool!
Luis Hall
>you are not allowed to like Pathologic anymore because an e-celeb made a video about it
Nicholas Robinson
game sales should only count legacy. A game should continue selling copies for years. games that rely on 1st week/month sales are flops
Ethan Brooks
steambabies fail to realise there are outlets besides their precious gabe's corner shop.
Levi Campbell
dang I can't believe Joseph Anderson is posting right in this thread
Camden Nelson
>mandalore review saving pathologic 2 when >but now it attracts shitposters into the thread because it was a """""e celeb""""" who did it
Truly a monkey paw, but I'm glad IPL is getting revenue even at the cost of losing comfy shitpost free pathologic threads.
Xavier Roberts
learn how to speak english regularly before you start trying to sound smart. You also didn't explain anything, you just had a tautological fit
Jose Edwards
As I have already said, I refer to Pathologic2, Ion Fury and nuPrey as to as professional as it gets forgeries of contemporary art.
Landon Turner
The threads have been amazing up until today when someone posted bad news. Shitpost galore now.
Jeremiah Cruz
nah, this thread is attracting shitposting because the OP posted bad sales, nothing gets Yea Forums harder than a game tanking in the sales department.
Joseph Bell
I will bear the cost with my lad
this means nothing until you say what they are forgeries of
Angel Gomez
You didn't give any general ideas you just fronted a bunch of synonymous adjectives with half clausal formations because you don't actually know what an imperative declaration in past perfect is.
You think Nerd Writer is an example of intelligent writing
Ayden Jones
What part of the "derivative trying to pass for the real deal" don't you understand?
Parker Gonzalez
Nani the fuck Jordan? Where's my lobster pussy?
Leo Jenkins
Read Aristotle and then William Gass' essays on metaphoric usage, retard.
Jacob Hall
what is the real deal it's trying to pass for?
Connor Sanders
It's a medium like any other for expressing or exploring thoughts and ideas, you're the only pseud here
Jaxon Morales
I have seen far more arthouse cinema than you and that's how I know you're full of shit. Tell me about Muratova, Askarian, Abuladze, Reis-Cordeiro, Straub-Huillet, Rocha, Bartas, Solanas, Dutta, Angelidi, Kaul, Portabella, Kuroki, Ninh, Fulton, Jissoji, Beavers? What, these names are unfamiliar to you? You pseud. You imbecile. Do you think yourself special and experienced in cinema? You think you have the clout to hold a legitimate discussion with me? ME?
Elijah Cooper
Derivative of what? What is the real deal?
Blake Russell
tell everyone the game has boobs. boobs sell games
my gf wanted to really like this game but she said by day 4 she had to stop and buy food every 5 minutes or starve to death and it ruined the game
i agree and hate mechanics like that
Jackson Hernandez
>Releases review, urging people to buy it if it sounds interesting to them >Suddenly purchases skyrocket, top of GoG and front page of Steam. >Devs saying "they cant even keep up" with processing the sales
Now all we need is for SSeth to also make a video to complete the yin yang sales booster.
it worked for Nier Automata and a bunch of other bad games
William Morgan
Why didn't you stockpile food in the first couple days?
Jose Anderson
Okay you paid for a film degree at a university is that your point?
Not the pseud but get over yourself, be like Wittgenstein and Welles
Easton Stewart
Ion Fury is Eradicator with System Shock 1 art direction. Level-design is built around an idea lifted from OG Quake.
Pathologic2, outside of trivial internal quotes, is Sinking Island with Everybody's Gone to Rapture problematics.
Parker Morgan
Both kinds of games can exist simultaneously. It isn't skin off of your bones when niche games succeed, though you're trying to be as obnoxious as possible when they fail.
Aiden Perry
okay this thread is almost redeemable for watching this one pretentious faggot getting savaged
Jacob Barnes
>pathologic 2, the remake of pathologic 1, stole from Everybody's Gone to Rapture, a game released after pathologic 1 (you)
Sebastian Diaz
Explain in detail what these things mean, with examples.
Carter Lopez
Mainstream journalists hate it because they only know difficulty from Dark Souls and are used to the AAA gaming industry, and Indie journalists hate it because it has too much gameplay and they're only used to walking simulators The people that play it, like it, its just video game journalism being retarded again. The thing is though the audience for this kind of game is rather niche. Casual players just don't want a game like this.
Blake King
Watch F for Fake free on YouTube and YOU TOO can learn to blast retards while laughing at it all
Logan Perry
Man that makes me feel really bad, from what i've seen the game is fucking cool I'd buy it, but i only have a shitty 8 yr old macbook right now and not enough money to buy a new computer
Ryder Perez
God it was such cringe Bethesda trying to market Prey using zoomer e-celebs streams and videos days before release. Bethesda marketing is fucking terrible while the games they publish, especially Arkane games, deserve so much better.
Austin Russell
Christ, it's you again. Go see a therapist, for fuck's sake.
Chase Clark
I hope the bump continues, Pathologic 2 is easily my GOTY so far and it's been a good year for games. P2 deserves to be talked about 10 years from now.
Christian Jackson
>DMC3, Sekiro and Resident Evil 2 >mindless gameplay loops >meaningless Hollywood action stories >good
Charles Evans
>fatty ankles and only wearing 1 dirty sock 6/10, might bang.
Wyatt Hernandez
>thing takes inspiration from other thing
name a single videogame that is truly original
Ian Torres
EXACTLY. Concerns the second named source of inspiration as well. It's not in the least "the way OG Pathologic was supposed to look like". Both people who made OG Pathologic what it was are long gone. Whatever in P2 which isn't directly from OG Pathologic, Tension, Knock-Knock and Marble Nest is shoplifted from what came AFTER OG Pathologic without much rhyme and reason.
Samuel Murphy
Can't, Deleuze pseuds don't believe in treating schizophrenia
Hunter Gomez
>sell the game like its some generic walking sim for pretentious tumblrwhales
>flops because it actually has gameplay
Alexander Gonzalez
It's literally the same director perfecting his vision you loser. Are you also upset that Pynchon followed up 49 with GR?
Joseph Mitchell
can you give specific examples instead of vagueing about it until the thread dies, you brain dead thirdworlder?
Chase Johnson
Perfecting it by means of plagiatrizing fucking Rapture?
Aaron Murphy
>we will complete the scenarios of the Bachelor with the Changeling - and we will do each in a new genre. Obviously, there are few who want to spend 20 hours again on a mediocre Survival for the sake of new plot twists.
What rapture are you talking about? Do you actually play games or read books? This isn't even fun shitposting if that's what you're doing, just lazy like you think we all have your limited hypocephallic mindset
Nolan Flores
>we will do each in a new genre >Bachelor is a Quake-tier fast paced FPS against hordes of plague angels >downtime is vn dating sim where you buy Eva presents to increase her affection and unlock sex scenes Make it happen Dybblekowsky
