Anybody else have this feel? Fuck me I was so optimistic

what's not to like? beautiful world, nice characters, nice traditional battle system, a little bit easy but not retardedly so... you must be jaded as fuck not to see any of this

...

OP do you have autism by any chance

Cringe

Have you tried not being a nigger?

Play builders 2

>you must be jaded as fuck
she's literally in his picture dumbass

Play on hard mode, game is a joke otherwise

Don't get me wrong, the game is beautiful and well crafted, even the Switch version looks nice. But absolutely nothing hooked me in, the story seems to be as bland as JRPGS get. I appreciate the traditional battle system but it's absolutely barebones to the point that piss easy battles drag out and feel way too long. My favorite thing about the game is the artstyle and I love the designs of the monsters, but everything else just doesn't interest me and I ended up bored just by playing the demo.

Unironically I played the first builders and loved it so I may actually have to just invest in builders 2 and get my DQ experience there

Is the switch demo out? Is it representative of the actual game? I remember DQB2’s demo was really dull, but I’m having great fun with the full game.

I guess you dont like slow games then
Sucks to be you I suppose
We DQ fans love it the way it is, for fast explosion based games there is everything else you know?
DQ is just comfy

Welcome to JRPGs. They’re consistently boring, mediocre slogs.

Yup and yup
Pretty nice couple of hours

Yeah don't get me wrong I'm not saying the game is bad, it simply wasn't what I was expecting and you're right the series probably isn't for me

Its cool, Im surprised DQ is as popular as it is when I think about it.
You need to like slow and predictable fairy tales that just happen to be polished to 11

Can I import the save file when I get the actual game, or will I need to play it all over again?

Save is 100% compatible

>Never played a DQ game before
The game was not made for you.

Great, I’ll enjoy it this weekend then.

Story picks up, it starts as the most cliche RPG tropes on purpose then has its own twists while telling a good tale. Try putting on draconian difficulty stuff to actually make the game engaging, I put on harder enemies only because combat is way too easy

I say get to Heliodor castle and see the king and meet Eric
Then decide if you want to drop it for good

Just played through the surprisingly lengthy demo. Super happy so far, definitely getting DQ8 vibes.
Pretty annoyed that there was no option to set Challenge Mode options in the demo though. I don't want to lose 8 hours of progress when starting with the main game, but it definitely feels on the easy side until now, especially compared with DQ8 which started off pretty difficult.

>that there was no option to set Challenge Mode options in the demo though
Yes there was
Press X in the name entry screen

you fell for the meme. just drop it, it's not worth the time. don't let longtime fans blinded by nostalgia tell you otherwise.

FUCK DAMMIT
Must have overlooked it because I was so hyped to start.
How hard is the "Tougher Enemies" modifier?

Satisfying as fuck hard
You actually have to stock on herbs and use the forge effectively to even have a chance

This is actually how I've been playing - and thus steamrolling absolutely everything on Normal.
Really gotta think about restarting in that case, because it's been the most trivial difficulty I've experienced in DQ yet, and it's kinda hurting my enjoyment.

I played the demo and I loved it. For a moment there I actually forgot I was playing a fucking demo and got really sad when that message came up.

>Just played through the surprisingly lengthy demo.

Oh user... You can set them when you input your name. There's a small prompt in the bottom right corner to press X for Draconian Quest.

>super boring
explain why faggot

You can skip cutscenes completely even the first time by holding Y
Id restart if I were you
Normal isnt fun

Wtf the marketing is working. Was it Squeenix holding DQ back in the West this whole time? Based Nintendo.

Builders 2 is better in almost every way to builders 1, although it does have a slow start

Braindead combat
Enpty overworld
Shitty 8bit sounds "for the nostalgia!!"

literally anyone whose brain is engaged by this game has a 2 digit IQ

>new IP
You are not OP!

Don't respond to this bait. Only I can reply to bait. Fuck you, bait

I mean Dragon Quest is quintessential JRPG kino.

You're the hero, an ancient evil has awoken or threatens to take over the world, you set out on a quest to stop them, gathering a host of colorful party members with unique skills to help you in your quest. You battle monsters, travel through dungeons, gain exp and gold, and finally you battle the Demon King/Lord-what-have-you, and live happily ever after.

the switch version looks absolute dogshit
play builders 2 instead

Post a screenshot that you took user. You did play the game right? You're not just shitposting?

Jade is made for ______

>the switch version looks absolute dogshit
how so?
>play builders 2 instead
you mean the game that runs at 18fps on playstation 4?

you just don't like dragon quest games, then. now you know

>how so?
Not him but in large areas, the NPCs that are far away are reduced to like, 3 fps. But it still looks amazing compared to most Switch games

Is the PS4 port that bad? I have the switch version and have had only a couple FPS drops

It still runs worse on Switch in the same occasions but Builders 2 runs like shit on both.

You might have gotten your hopes up too much, but this is still one of the better JRPGs of the past decade. Still, you have to understand that most RPGs start out fairly limited, and the fun is in unraveling the plot and progressing your characters. The game gets fun and quickly, so I hope you didn't quit before combat becomes more deep. If you can't find that enjoyable, then I don't know what you were thinking getting this.

Braindead series.

How is it braindead?

There's a huge amount of cutscenes for the tiniest changes in the story, for example going through the the sewers involved a cutscene of the two running each time you go around a corner... the same for when you're climbing the Tor or progressing through Eric's story, the game always pauses for multiple cutscenes. The gameplay then switches back to you walking through a room, then back to a cutscene, I don't know why the game doesn't just cut out the middle part so you don't have to watch two separate cutscenes that hardly move the story along.
As for the combat like I said earlier to another user I appreciate that it's traditional turn based, especially when the genre is bloated full of weird revisions to turn based combat with needless mechanics slapped on. However, it's almost too traditional, and simplistic battles end up dragging as a result. However I understand that this isn't necessarily a bad thing and it's just my preference.

No thanks I don't really feel the need to prove myself to some guy on the internet by booting up my switch and taking a screenshot of a demo for you. Not sure why criticism of a game is now considered shitposting either. Again I'm only giving my fucking opinion on it and was wondering if anyone felt the same. I'm not even saying the game is poorly made, it's clearly a very well made game.

SCHLOP

You can turn your brain off and still win.
It's fucking boring.

No you can't

love how you guys make these threads putting so much effort in a way that it will make it look like we're supposed to care

>oh my GOOOD it DAWNED ON ME that I was actually not liking this game HOOOLEY SHIT
so what nigger, nobody cares, irrelevant schizo

Well give us some context, user, what kind of RPG do you like? I dare say most modern RPGs are just like this in terms of cutscene content, and the battles get much better the longer you go on (though if you want immediate satisfaction, turn on hard mode).

>Never played a DQ game before but always heard how good the series is
>Wait for the DQ11 Switch version for the DEFINITIVE EDITION BONUSES
>Demo is released on Switch finally
>game is fucking excellent and one of the best JRPGs of the generation alongside Kinoblade Chronicles 2
ftfy

Fuck off, Sandy.

you care
mad

hard mode is a retarded grind fest. not gonna waste 200 hours just to get through the story

I care that a nigger like you is sharing the same environment as me, even if just online, that's what I really care. can only hope this unfortunate situation will happen less often

I wanna be jaded if you know what I mean ;)

>dragon quest is a retarded grind fest.
fixed

Why Mario old man lol? Did Bowser die?

Bravely Second is a traditional JRPG much like dragon quest and that at least innovates on the combat system and makes it feel more fast paced

The entire DQ series is just lazy

>How hard is the "Tougher Enemies" modifier?
It's retarded. The game is too RNG heavy for it to be satisfying. Prepare to grind before every boss fight and always be close to a rest spot. IMO the best difficulty is just being underleveled. Hard mode is harder than any JRPG hard mode I've played in a decade.

So do you all agree that Normal is too easy?
Can you up the difficulty midgame or do you have to pick it at the begginning?

Its called LOD bias, its often used in order to not take up so much VRAM , Monster Hunter World uses it aswell on monsters at a distance.

Just be warned that by the final acts and post game, hard monsters does get pretty fucking brutal, even when you grind out levels and have optimal builds set up

>The gameplay then switches back to you walking through a room, then back to a cutscene
This happens in 2 occasions in a 10 hour demo. Stop being a retard

Yeah I know, but in this case, it's VERY noticeable. I'm talking like about 40ft away from you

Yes, turns out whether you hate a game or you like a game you're not the only one on the planet who does it. Great thread, faggot OP!

It honestly takes about 20-30hours to pick up. That sounds like a lot but the game itself is 100-125hours long.

Pick "Reduce XP from weaker enemies". That's a normal mode. "Super strong monsters" is a hard mode and you will die a lot.

based

>i-it gets good 30 hours in!
reminder to NEVER take these faggots seriously
30 hours spent you could have been playing a better game that's good immediately

I don’t know, Bringer of Chaos in XC2 is literally “you comprain game easy? FUCK YOU, here hard mode, go die”.
It’s not just enemies doing ridiculously more damage and having more health, they attack more often, you deal less damage, you have less health, you have less time to set up combos, your skills charge more slowly, etc. etc.

>t. brainlet
DQ XI with tougher enemies isn't even the hardest Dragon Quest game

>>Wait for the DQ11 Switch version for the JP VA

Cringe

You can only activate Draconian Quests on the name input screen when you first create your file.

I was enjoying it from the start. I think you people are just bored of JRPGs

Attached: 1540878177932.jpg (322x306, 20K)

I haven't played Bringer of Chaos yet, I'll probably do it in NG+.
But in XC2 it's mostly about how well you understand the game systems and set up your party. There isn't a lot of RNG and you can defeat most enemies close to your level if you do the right combos and set the correct blades.

In DQ11 hard mode, I died 4 times in the beginning simply because an encounter spawned too many enemies for me to tackle. It creates this annoyance where you can't fight more than 5 battles without resting or using a butt load of items and then needing a shop.

This is how a DQ11 hard mode battle has a CHANCE of going:
>be in overworld
>hit a single enemy
>turns out the battle has 3 enemies
>2 of which are much stronger than the one you hit
>your preemptive strike is randomly nullified and all 3 enemies go first
>RNG goes against you and they hit status effects and strong hits
>your party member is wiped out
>try to flee
>game doesn't allow you to
>die
>lose 30 minutes of progress or pay half of your money
It's just annoying and there is nothing you can do to stop it except grind on easy enemies for an hour at a time. And even this is impossible if you turn on the setting which doesn't allow weaker monsters to drop xp.

ABP nerd. Always be poor.

Not them but I played the game for an hour or 2 and dropped it, and JRPGs are probably my favourite genre. I’ve enjoyed several JRPGs since too.

It’s just such a generic, boring game.

Battles in DQ do not drag on, that is other JRPG. They even added the super fast battle speed. DQ had always been punctuated with battles you can get through fairly quickly either with smart move choices or even auto battle tactics.
It seems really bare bones right now, but that is because you only have 2 characters and virtually no skill points.
When you get veronica and serena will be stacking buffs and blasting through enemies.
The intro parts do move kind of slow at first, but that is typical in DQ. Once you really get going and learning things about the world, the story is much more interesting and emotional, though most of this is a ways past the demo.
Everyone gets really good character development and the game ends up really satisfying to complete.

wash your hand friend they are black

>generic
Does everything need to be groundbreaking to you people? Give me some examples of JRPGs you enjoy and tell me how they don't fall on the "generic" spectrum

Not him but I love SaGa and they're far from generic. DQ is good too though, just turn off the godawful music.

Dragon Quest is the original JRPG. It's "generic" because it invented the genre. But every single one of them still subverts the genre and hits you with unexpected twists, even when you see a twist coming, you'll never figure out what it is in time.

What would be? DQ vet here and I've played all the mainline DQ games, except 10. I played 11 on normal last year and I plan on doing harder monsters for 11s.

Ah wait I guess 2 could be harder depending on which version you play. Rhone can be brutal.

Attached: sacrifice.png (347x307, 187K)

This will be my first mainline Dragon Quest game - advice on difficulty settings? I don’t want it to be brain dead, but I’d rather err on too easy than too hard - with only a few exceptions I tend to find “difficult” JRPGs are more tedious than challenging. If more difficult means grinding, farming, and using only a repetitive optimal strategy all the time, I’m not that interested in it.

All that said, what settings am I likely to have the most fun on?

Based nigger

>godawful music
lol? fuck off

The money thing really doesnt matter, just put it in the bank whenever you get to the city and there is no penalty anymore.

DQ has the worst music of any major rpg series I've played. Uematsu is better Hawauzu is better Yoko is better Mitsuda is better.

>but I played the game for an hour or 2
You are retarded

got the demo on swich since I already have the pirated PC version.
wow the music is improved immensely. Graphics still hold up for the most part, even on the switch.

I may actually buy this....eventually.

>If more difficult means grinding, farming, and using only a repetitive optimal strategy all the time, I’m not that interested in it.
Then don't pick the superstrong monsters option. Use the "reduce xp from weaker enemies" and try to keep yourself somewhat underleveled and you'll get a challenge in boss fights.

Probably just play with Stronger Enemies or Reducded EXP whichever you think you'd have more fun with. For a change of pace outside of combat you can play with Townsfolk Talk Tripe for the occasional funny line of dialogue.

You can lower xp from weaker enemies, seems to be the go-to.
Hard monsters if you want it harder but you will likely need to grind at some point near the end, where the enemies get really beefy.
I hear the game is not balanced well for picking both.
There is also shypox where main character will randomly remember something embarrassing and miss his turn.

Others are shit like no armor allowed, no shops(crafting only).

>normal is insultingly easy
>stronger monsters is brutal early on and requires tons grinding right before the final boss

What's with the balance in this game? Theres absolutely no middle ground

>I hear the game is not balanced well for picking both.
It's completely possible, you just need to use debuffs and buffs a lot. Debuffs moreso since late game bosses can use disruptive wave often. You can even beat the game with shypox, no armor, no buying, harder monsters, no running (RIP), and no exp from easy fights all at once. Not sure about super shypox and mc dying means game over though. That might make the game very improbable to beat.

Use stronger monsters for 99% of the game, then turn it off for the final boss. Easy.

Having the draconian settings be a tiny box you can only access once at the start is a big mistake.
I guarantee most people will miss it (I did and had to restart the game 40 minutes in ln the ps4) and then complain the game's too easy or something

Don't want to start another thread just for this, so I'll ask here. How's ni no kuni? Is it similar to dragon quest with its easy, traditional JRPG style?

the BLC
Big Luminary Cock

It's a monster collecting RPG with a mix of turn based and real time combat. Its not really like DQ at all

I drop the game after 25 hours in the french girls academy part.the combat Is too repetitive 4 me ,i even enjoy more the shitty Falcom-Kiseki games combat.

The only thing it has in common with DQ is being easy, but NNK takes it to the point of boredom and I don't believe there's a hard mode.

This desu

>reading is hard

>didnt find out until I was at the last dungeon
It hurts, feels like I robbed myself of a challenging experience, but I don't want to so everything again.

I feel the same way. Nintendo made it seem like it was a Final Fantasy caliber RPG, but it's just a turn based drag. And the battle system is weird. What's the point of making it seem like you can move around when it doesn't affect anything?

>Final Fantasy caliber RPG, but it's just a turn based drag
Which FF games have you played? 14 and 15 I presume.

Why are people acting like Hard mode is some sort of challenging experience? All it does is force you to grind more in each area before you can move on. It doesn't even affect the use of status effects.

I'm kinda bummed out by the downgrade to the graphics, but overall, it's a port of my personal favorite game of all time. I can't complain too hard.

Attached: tumblr_pkscm3EVrU1shqeu8o1_1280.jpg (700x700, 110K)

Think of Dragon Quest as the vanilla JRPG. It established all the tropes, it uses a traditional-to-a-fault battle system, it's as classic and oldschool as the genre gets. In a genre where it seems like every game is going the open world, action combat route these days, Dragon Quest is a breath of fresh air.

But that doesn't mean it doesn't have some surprises. In each Dragon Quest game, there is less of an overarching plot and more of a series of shounen one-off adventures where the party solves local problems in various towns and whatnot, and often, these small storylines get pretty dark.
There are definitely times when it *seems* like the game is the most generic JRPG story ever, but I urge you to keep playing because it doesn't stay that way.

Attached: sage girl.jpg (669x848, 112K)

classic black hand user

You're in the first few hours of a JRPG, of course the battle system is simple and not very engaging. Things pick up a lot once you have four party members and you're thinking about how you want to build each character.
The cutscenes you're complaining about are actually pretty far and few... The sewer/dragon scenes are some of the longest cutscenes the game has for a while.

Stronger enemies mean you need to properly stock each character up and pay attention to how much each enemy can hit for. Compared to the vanilla experience where everything does fuck-all damage and even 11's limited MP pool will easily last between level-ups, it is a much better challenge.
