This is the best Ratchet game, prove me wrong
This is the best Ratchet game, prove me wrong
game ruined the story of the first game.
nah
spbp
sgbg
>Bland level design
>Sixaxis gimmicks
>Ship levels suck balls
>Lame soundtrack and graphics
>Lame writing
>Weapon upgrade system is boring
7/10 game.
motion controls
tachyon
weapons were weak, bet you couldn't name one
I liked the razor claws because they were completely broken and let you clip out of bounds
ratchet and clank is overrated
I really liked it too. Replayed it many times. Beautiful environments.
first game, tools of destruction and up your arsenal will always have special place in my autism
story is always shit in this games
Okay let's do this:
Weapons: 3 > DL > 2 > ToD > 1 > ItN > ACiT
Environments: 2 > ACiT > DL > 1 > 3 > ItN
Story/writing: ACiT > 1 > 3 > 2 > DL > ItN > ToD
Soundtrack: DL > 3 > 2 > 1 > ToD > ACiT > ItN
Overall: 3 > 2 > ACiT > DL > 1 > ToD > ItN
Huh, didn't know the snowbeast award actually came with a physical trophy
I want to talk about the Ratchet & Clank movie. It would've been A LOT better had they followed the story of the original first game, not the "remake". Everything about it just worked. Why Insomniac feels shame in how Ratchet acted astounds me when it had the best story of the series.
>story writing: acit > 1 > 3 > 2 > dl
terrible taste
it's an unpolished first attempt with a new engine
GC/UYA are in a permanent battle for top spot
deadlocked is the best
Into the Nexus is severely underrated, it's short but in that small amount of time they bring back a lot of what made the PS2 era games great
Eh, I think Nexus gets the appreciation it deserves. The framerate and length are important issues but the gameplay gimmicks are enjoyable.
I love this game and it is legitimately what made me buy the PS3. It's no where near the best game, it's barely better than the dog shit spin off games.
FFA's multiplayer was fun as fuck for the 2 months that it was alive
I want to create a R&C clone for PC, what are some things that could be improved upon or avoided?
Avoid any sort of forced clank like segment, they are pace breaking and never fun.
Nothing you can do will ever replicate the SOUL of the original.
The story needs to be self aware cynical deadpan like the PS2 games, not taking itself seriously with attempts at deep lore like the future series.
Yeah i hated those parts too.
not trying to replecate it exactly, but take bits here and there and turning it into its own thing
yeah do what says then, don't take it too seriously
try to lean into the original game's branching level design and platforming bent, the later games have forgotten about it and it's a real shame
Remember to always contain a shortcut back to the start of the level when you reach the end of a path, that's one of the design staples of ratchet games
Watch the developer commentaries of GC/UYA if you haven't yet
thanks
>no clank sections
>make sure you vary the weapons enough that they all feel different (no 2x assault rifles except one fires in burst vs one in full auto)
>weapons should be swapped around during the game so make it easy for the player, no clunky menus
>some enemies are more resistant to some weapons, encouraging use of more weapons instead of just your 2 favourite ones all game, but you can still do that if you like
>no nuke gun or room clearing gun, really stupid - bullet hell mega gun is more fun
>auto turrets
>learn from the more boring and unfun weapons and concepts in the R&C games
>kinda sarcastic story, doesn't have to be on a grand scale
Release this on steam and you're rich
I tried to play Nexus but it just ran so poorly on ps3.
I played through all of them in a row and finished the other ones all within 2 days each, but I couldnt even play an hour of Nexus.
2, ACIT and TOD are my favorites.
The #1 remake also ran really poorly for the little bit I played it, does it run better after a bit?
>>some enemies are more resistant to some weapons, encouraging use of more weapons instead of just your 2 favourite ones all game, but you can still do that if you like
This is a bit boring, I think it should be like the first couple games where it's the firing patterns of the weapons that makes them differently viable on other enemies. Make there be a reason to have all these CUHRAYZEE attacks, you know?
>>weapons should be swapped around during the game so make it easy for the player, no clunky menus
you mean the game automatically changes your weapon based on it magically predicting the one you want to use? that's dumb and annoying, weapon wheels are perfectly fine and not clunky
tfw wanted to make a ratchet clone but modelling 3D environments is way too time consuming when you're doing all the programming too
I genuinly enjoyed the ACiT clank puzzles especially the secret ones. I don't disagree with pace breaking but Ive always liked the puzzles in these games
>here's a thing you said
>here's my interpretation so fuck you
no, i think he means instead of holding shift then mousing over the weapon you want you could assign them to the number keys and switch between them in game without going into the menu
how about i just make them optional? so you dont need to break the pace of the game to progress but you can complete them for bonus currency or an item
You're welcome to correct me instead of getting salty.
>Soundtrack
>DL
Fucking good taste my dude I really appreciate you
The aCiT puzzles were cool, the rest of the clank gameplay in aCiT was trash.
One of the only things the remake did well was the clank gameplay, I liked the puzzles there too. As long as you're not in a scripted fucking chase scene.
more platforming like the earlier games
keep the level up guns mechanic but you can choose where the exp goes, proably a lot of work but multiple level up paths for each gun would be cool
melee can reflect projectiles if timed correctly
Again a lot of work but as your on PC a simple RTS minigame would be cool
co-op
no races, please
optional is fine but why not have puzzles that you dont have to change to an entirely different character without any of the movement options, at least thats what annoyed me about the clank sections.
What im saying is you can have a change of pace in a game without it being jarring otherwise its constant fights with little variation like deadlocked. A game can benefit with a little distraction from the action now and then
Complete change in direction for writing and worse for it
Weapons that aren't derivatives of past ones aren't terribly exciting (Tornado Launcher is cool admittedly)
Soundtrack is utter trash, and as much as the narrative and audio backdrops aren't directly related to the gameplay which is more of the same old R&C goodness, it just poisons the whole experience
2 is still the best
Has too much of that early PS3 jank.
Vastly prefer A Crack in Time.
I agree
The story in Ratchet and Clank is good though
