How would an actual video game of THE MASK work?

OP then forgot to mention said game existed.
However, if we were to make a Mask Game, the game would presumably lend well to some sort of third person perspective so we can see The Mask's goofy actions. The game would also presumably have some sort of action element to it as well.

Honestly, if a AAA studio were to make it, it would probably work somewhat like the Arkham games. There's not much in the material there beyond beating up bad-guys in goofy/creepy ass ways.

I just picture Saints Row 3, except it's a completely normal open world game when the mask is off, but once it's on, cooky town time + missions. Plus some system that penalizes getting the cop's attention while you're not wearing the mask.

The problem is (as far as the movie goes, not fluent with the comics) having the Mask on is basically Godmode. How do you even balance around it other than say, making collateral a gameplay element.

I'm not exactly sure how it works; I'm currently reading the books right now...

But to my knowledge it doesn't seem to have a will of it's own. It just acts as a 'personality booster' and pushes it to the cartoonish extreme. Hence why in the movie the bad guy can use it. If it were a changing hands kind of thing, I think it'd be more focused on the characters that do obtain it.

Because The Mask only focuses around 1 mask. We have pretty much implied that the concept of taking on and off the mask like in MM would be there though.

I really should get around to playing the one that came out on 360/PS3.

That setup would also allow the situation where the brain of the owner could kick in during while living out their Mask fantasy and taking you off without your permission.
