Hey du!

Telvanni

old camp is the canon

>1
New Camp has best faction armour, access to all the endgame spells, so on. Swamp buddies have shit across the board and joining them doesn't even shave your head.
>2
Mercs don't have spells, King's Buttsluts has a couple, Mages have them all but you have to live with being a Guy Fieri cosplay.

Old camp mages for quick magic access. You can join blue mages later.

Für Die König!

old camp = capitalists
new camp = communists
swamp camp = spiritualists

new camp = anarchists

nigga i joined all 3 at least 10 times

What do you want, a medal?
Pretty impressive, actually. Loved the game but not something I'd be able to replay easily.

Depends, do you want to play as a mage or a warrior?

new Camp for swag armor

Gorn is an absolute hotep.

What were they thinking, seriously

Gothic 2 Patching guide with graphics mods

Download this and install the patches in the correct order (read the installation order text file). You have to install these for the Steam or the GoG version or else the game won't run properly.
mega.nz/#!R8dhiCCA!HHdFVt4aD19kQfiYzk9rBi8K5rVU0SsRN09LtkY5qcg

Then download this and extract everything to the "system" folder in your Gothic 2 folder
gothic-dx11.de/download/XVersions/GD3D11_X17_1.zip
This makes the graphics a lot better, adds new shaders, increases the draw distance etc + fixes performance issues.
__________________________________________________________________________

Additional Graphics mods (choose ONE of the two). Both of these work with the DX11 mod above. Both of these are installed by simply dropping the .vdf file into your "Data" folder (with other .vdf files in it)
Vurt's Graphics Overhaul:
This is the most vanilla-friendly graphics mod. It mostly only improves the textures/meshes.
nexusmods.com/gothic2/mods/4

L'hiver Vanilla Edition:
Changes the graphics + changes and expands the map. Edits certain locations and models, adds new buildings, new objects. It offers the best graphics imo but the downside is that it adds too many unnecessary trees in some locations.
moddb.com/mods/lhiver-edition-vanilla-gothic/addons/lhiver-edition-graphics-world-vurt-v091

Here are screenshots comparing the two mods:

If the in-game videos are very small go to the Gothic.ini file in the "system" folder and make these two lines have these values:
zVidResFullscreenX=640
zVidResFullscreenY=360

Leading theory, the one I've seen that makes the most sense, is that it was originally intended to be a console game and just never ultimately made the jump across.

That is like casual filter N1. It instantly clears the biggest shitters without even letting them play the game. There should be things like that in modern games tbqh.

I think in 1 it doesn't matter because you end up with the new camp anyway, albeit I don't remember if going straight to the water mages instead of joining the fire mages first is possible, though.

in 2 it's more complicated, since the faction you pick stays with you and they each are either full magic for the monastery/magic with melee for the paladin/full melee for the mercs. pick whichever interests you most
idk, I usually set my use button to the button, and it works well
that's interesting, how consoles at the time would be able to handle it is beyond me though. also I'm actually going to try playing with a controller for my next playthrough

use button to the mouse button*

>can either move OR swing
>sprinting attack misses 90% of the time and does like 5 damage

Man, great game but it was a nightmare to get running on a modern system. Also Old Camp.

>I don't remember if going straight to the water mages instead of joining the fire mages first is possible
It is, but only in chapter 4, so Old Camp is still the only choice for full mage playthrough.

Can I get 60fps without DX11?

the chad new camp brothers-in-arms vs. the virgin old camp co-workers

GOG version of Gothic 1 run on modern systems without any additional patches.

Niggers I mean diggers

Doing the beginning quests for everyone, then joining old camp is the most kino. Remember to give the mine document to Lares before giving it to Diego.

Depends, if you have it bought on Steam you can just follow the guide with all the fixes you need a russian posted on there, works everytime
Same goes for Gothic 2

Dude how do I get 60fps in gothic 2 without extra mods, I don't like how dx11 looks

>New Camp in Gothic 1 has it's fair shar of lawless scumbags in there, but that is balanced out by based people like Lee and his guards
>Outlaws in Elex are all scumbags without exception
while the Outlaws were a fun faction, they still don't compare to the New Camp

Which is better:
beeing a d(n)igger
being a rice farmer
collecting swampweed while dodging swampsharks

Gothic 2's mercenary scumfucks was balanced by letting you beat the shit out of them without consequences.

elex is a fucking mess faction-wise, and also a mess in nearly every other way.

Depends on many things, in gothic 1 differences are basically lorewise. All 3 camps offer you fighting class and casting class, the exception is swamp camp where fighting class gets access to use low lvl spell runes.

Joining the fourth camp in the Troll canyon thats never mentioned in the story and has no quests related to it.

The game has 2 "modes". Just walking and with additional key press the walking keys become action keys. Btw if you're not using wasd and mouse you are a nigger

and in the retail version they forgot to make them agresive, they just act as guys from new camp

There is a fix that removes the FPS limits, also does some performance fixes which should give you higher FPS on a newer system

What?

Really? I had the physical version as a kid and pretty sure they attacked. I might have patched it though, I was pretty savvy tbqh.

Firing down plasma shots and explosives down on groups of enemeis with your jetpack can be fun though

b-b-b-uhhh-b-buhhhh-BASED

they did attack me in Steam version, but I never got to found out what their fucking purpose was

There is a huge camp of hostile bandits, with even some named NPCs, in the troll canyon somewhere. Probably cut content. If you run towards the dry area you fight the troll, its before that to the right as far as I remember.

>1
If you want to go mage, then else Old Camp or New Camp, only there you can reach 5th circle of magic. For warrior it doesn't matter.
>2
It's a choice between pure physical (merc), melee/magic hybrid (paladin) and pure magic. Faction is ultimately chosen by your playstyle, yet you can skip for instance magic runes for paladins, but in later part of the game paladin spells are extremely viable against undead and orcs.

What where is that on the map?

Here I think, if I'm not remembering completely wrong.

Attached: gothic 1 map.gif (620x490, 139K)

L'hiver is shit, and you need the 4GB patch if you dont want your game crashing constantly because its out of memory.

dude its a tiny compound with a few bandits. Once you're high level you clear it in like 2 minutes.

Just like games irl.

I mean the very first German cd release before any patches. These guys are "Quentins gang" and they were never finished. In normal game they are just hostile npc, in the said first version however, they act like new camp guys, you can ask them about the camp and Lee and stuff

Gothic 3 scratched the itch to explore a gigantic world but there are too many fucked up decisions Jesus Christ why is there a dragon in some random cave? Why is every weapon you find on enemies useless? Every chest has the same worthless junk. Good ending is incredibly hard but you get a perk that lets you regenerate health - after you killed about 95% of all enemies.
It feels like everything is geared towards helping the Orcs although humans could easily beat them if it wasn't for the mercenaries. Jesus Christ that map sometimes, especially in the northern parts. Combat isn't really made for more than one enemy at a time. I could go on and on, Risen is just so much better in nearly every aspect.

>Jesus Christ why is there a dragon in some random cave?
The cave in the first orc occupied city? I liked it. It gave you something to look forward to once you were high level enough.

Until you actually beat it and it had trash loot, a shitty dungeon concept, it was tiny as fuck and there were like 2 dragons in the whole game. It's just poor design.

so new camp/swamp camp if you want more of a battlemage and old camp if you want full mage?

My n'wah.

I still haven't played it. What are the recommended community patches/mods to use for a first playthrough?

Community patch is good although the GoG version is on 1.74 I think, which is playable.
worldofgothic.com/dl/?catid=19
Knock yourself out.

I already have the steam version, is the Community Patch v1.74 enough?

Yes.

New Camp is the best for fighters, since the only prerequisite for advancement is reaching level 10, so you get better armor and 2H training sooner. Also the New Camp is the only faction that allows you to train 2H without mastering 1H first. You will be able to become a Water Mage eventually, but you will spend majority of the game without any access to magic.
In the Old Camp you're supposed to choose between Guards and Mages upon advancement, but there's an exploit allowing you to become a Guard first, get the armor and 2H/crossbow training, and then switch to a Fire Mage. You will join New Camp later anyway because of the plot.
Swamp Camp lets you learn magic from the very start, but unlike in the other camps, you will be able to learn only four out of six circles of magic. 2H training is available only after advancement, so you don't really get any benefits other than a bit quicker access to crappy spells.

No matter what you choose, you will end up being a battlemage anyway, since you have to somehow survive before you get access to spells, and unlike in G2, you'll have enough LPs to master both sword and magic anyway.

It's been a while since I played it, but don't you need to kill the minecrawlers first, same as other camps?

>but you have to live with being a Guy Fieri cosplay
How is this a downside

Nope, I just checked it.

this thread really makes me wanna replay 1/2 as a mage since I never have but I have other shit to play and didn't even play 3 yet

G1: New Camp
G2: Mercenaries

What was the plans for this camp anyway? How would they impact the plot? Were they suppose to be related to the new camp or did the devs just give them their outfits for placeholder?

Ok, that's pretty useful, I guess. Too bad light mercenary armor is so ugly no NPCs in the game even wear it, and you can't buy better ones before advancing chapters.

How's Risen 1?
i only played Risen 3 and that was pirate shit

I found it ok, combat was a pain for me tho.

Honestly I was always an old camp fag in 1 because of Diego, but they turned him into an asshole in 2 so now I feel like going with the New Camp.

My new problem is how the fuck do you even play anything but Mercenaries in 2 when Lee is such a bro? Please tell me he is a cunt in 3

1 was amazing, at least personally, felt like a Gothic title through and through, albeit slightly differently paced.

Very solid Gothic-like game until the final fight. Fighter builds have really nice skill progression, where you unlock new useful moves as you master your weapon. I haven't played as an archer or mage, but judging from the skills these builds seem to lack devs' love compared to fighters.

Black Ea... sorry, wrong game.

The Sect, way better than the camps

just played as a mage a week ago. you choose between fire, ice or arcane and pew-pew everything down on the map. its broken as shit and its no fun at all after a while. gothic 2 did mages a lot better

Magic is pretty shit in Risen 1. It basically turns the game into a third person shooter. Most of the spells you get aren't that useful in combat.
