Zora swimming was fucked, but everything else wasn't a big deal in the slightest, and all the upgrades more than made up for the zora swimming. Which along with a bunch of other shit is fixed in a mod now. So it's easily the definitive version of the game now, if you didn't think it was before. Shit is just too beautiful and immersive compared to on the N64.
other than the rainbow stairs its better. more color makes this game even more surreal. but the fucking stairs man.
OOT was the one that looked off to me.
They fucked with so much that it borders on autism than a remake. Stuff like adding unecessary eyes, swimming mechanics, color changes, etc change what the original game stood for. On the other hand, they went out of their way to keep glitches on the oot remake, which is an unfair treatment in comparison.
>HUUURRRR ZORA SWIMMING
>DUUURRRR MOMENTUM
The remake was great. That bullshit hit-piece youtube video was the reason why idiots started shitting on this game.
Original has better atmosphere. Idk if you're an atmosphere fag like me though.
Odolwa boss fight felt worse but Gyorg and Twinmold felt better. Goht was about the same. Didn't care for the change to "literally every boss has a giant eyeball weakness" but whatever. Overall I feel like it was an improvement though. I liked that the Bomber's Notebook kept better track of your shit as well
This, it's too bright compared to the original. Everything else is whatever though and changes like making image backgrounds fully modeled are nice.
Please nobody post it. It finally disappeared from my recommended videos and the nightmares have finally stopped.
Picked it up recently for dirt cheap. So far I'm enjoying it. I'm a bit annoyed that the old gui's clock is gone but it makes sense with the smaller screen.
Atmosphere is a bit different with the brighter colors and lighting but it makes the fucked up situation a little more jarring. Remember that not only is Majora itself colorful as fuck but this is a world where people are screaming that everything's fine while ignoring or ignorant of the truth.
They stop? Huh. Weird. I still have the occasional nightmare featuring lunar colony-drops, people being boiled alive, undead screeching (although this one is more OoT than MM), or masks fusing to faces.
>no optimization patch for 'new' 3ds model
what a fucking scam
It's got issues but the good and bad changes mostly cancel each other out, it's a sidgrade.
the idea that MM3d is this awful disgrace of a port/remaster is fucking absurd. It's got number of bad changes but it's got just as many good ones.
Good:
>Much better models, textures lighting and effects that almost always preserve the atmosphere
>Gyorg fight is better
>Doesn't make you rewatch the business scrub cutscene
>Better framerate
>Song of double time allows you to pick times
>Gyro arrow controls
>Fishing
>if you have a n3ds/xl, you have camera rotation/control via c nub
Neutral:
>The bombers notebook is a little less obtuse/more organic to use, but it's also a little too helpful.
>Likewise, the save system is less obtuse, but allowing you to save without it being attached to going back in time also removes some of the stress the game is meant to invoke
>Twinmold fight is different but not better or worse. Some people like the change, some don't.
>Bank placement is moved
Bad
>Odolwa fight was made very easy, especially with the deku mask.
>Ice arrows can't be used just anywhere anymore.
>Zora swimming less fun, which outweighs the benefit of easier control in tight spaces.
>Bombers notebook pops up automatically and takes a while to do so, is annoying
>The Keeta chase is made way easier
>You have to get out of rolling as goron to hit Goht, but this isn't nearrly as bad as Odolwa's change
>It's harder to use the Deku spin to go faster (super minor thing to count against it, but it's there)
>Great bay temple's atmosphere is changed due to less gritty textures and brighter lighting
The atmosphere is preserved in like 95% of areas, here's a comparsion of every spot in game.
Ocarina has some actually pretty big changes but they're subtle enough that your brian is tricked into accepting the downgrade.
Majora is just in your face about it. If they hadn't changed the bosses or the swimming I doubt anyone would even realise they completely fucked the way Deku Link Controls.
Nah, the atmosphere in 3D is way better. The lighting and espcially the coloring really makes it feel more surreal and the town feels more alive and lived in with all the details and far better textures.
>clock town is completely different at night
>termina field looks completely different, especially at night (although fully modeled backgrounds are still nice)
I could continue, but for now, I'll just say that the color palette is way too vibrant in these two areas. The atmosphere is not preserved in the slightest.
Absolutely not, being around a desolate Clock Town on the final night is ruined by the new color palette popping out too much.
If you haven't seen it already:

Its supposed to have color.
Wish it was on an actual console instead the 3DS for one.
I just hate how inconsistent the changes were. There was no reason to nerf Deku and Zora Link. Goron Link's new sped up animations look fucking retarded and make no sense since only his punches are fast while everything else is still sluggish. Stone Tower wasn't made less tedious. Every boss takes longer thanks to the mandatory routine to expose the eyeball weakspot. They put in a Shiekah Stone to hold your hand despite the new Bomber's Notebook telling you how to do everything with no option to disable each notification. The fishing holes have no reason to be in the game and since they don't eliminate the time limit, completely miss the point of what made the one in OoT so relaxing.
That artwork is at sunrise while the pics are at night.
Why are the screenshots at night? The art is based on when you first enter Clock Town during the day.
3rd day copped it the worst. The original used to look absolutely dismal in a unique way, but I do understand why they changed it because there's really no incentive to play past the first day when each successive day is more miserable than the last.
3rd night is fucked up though just because dawn never comes. The whole point is that tomorrow is just another day despite the impending death but they changed it instead to some generic "Majotra brings an eternal night" shit.
Even noting that, it still applies.
>The whole point is that tomorrow is just another day despite the impending death
>almost broad daylight at 5 am
That's what really gets me and why I like to go out of my way to get a bunch done in one timeline.
No, it completely defeats the purpose. The atmosphere isn't preserved for shit.
Google restoration patch, they fixed most of the questionable changes in the latest version. I did a run last year and boy it surely was disappointing. Biggest offenders were the obtrusive bombers notebook, excessive handholding and the new Twinmold fight was unnecessarily long and retarded
>hurrr I'm a giant hurrr I move like a fucking tank
ok but how do I apply said patch to my copy on my 3ds
Probably easiest to download a cia and patch that. Rip your save from the game card.
But can I still play it on my 3DS?
Yes if it's softmodded.
Why the flying fuck is the deku flower in the middle???
Only Grezzo knows though I assume it's so you'll pretty much be garunteed to trigger the cutscene at least once before the three days are up.
It's honestly fine.
I really disliked the anxiety the game gave me as a kid (e.g. if I couldn't figure out a dungeon in the time limit, I'd have to restart, therefore I wouldn't even try the dungeon due to fear of failure I was like 8, fuck off).
I think most of the changes are absolutely for the better. There's a few that suck like the swimming, but it's not that big of a deal.
They should have really just offered a 'n64' mode for the purists, but oh well. I'd rather play the remake than the original at this point I think.
I know it's late but thanks for the (you) user. I've been hoping something like this was released. Can't believe someone cared enough to do this, specially since the remake is a bit old.
I'm playing it right now as a kid that nostalgia fags hard for MM I think it's just straight better visually. The colors add way more depth and horror to things than the at times hilarious colors and models of the N64. Iunno, been playing for a week now. Even better than the N64 game.
i thought it was fine except the boss changes are really awful
Is there a prepatched cia available?
Were they really? I liked them so far, not gotten to Stone Tower yet but the bosses made it fun using the respective mask to take them down. Was a fun challenge. In the original as a kid I'd just fight them as Link and say fuck the masks.
it had some good changes and some bad changes. one of the stupidest changes was moving the invisible guard who gave the stone mask from outside the canyon to inside the pirate fortress. the purpose of it being in the canyon was to reward players who went out of their way exploring by giving them a mask that would make the fortress easier. now you just find it in the fortress anyway. it just shows that the remake's devs didn't really understand the design of the game
the changes are actually pretty monumental and change how the game is played for the worst. it's okay to accept that it had some good and bad changes. it's not even an unfair "muh soul vs soulless" comparison
Can the "Repatch mod" team fix something like that??? That flower should be way in the corner.
I will concede them on that point just because it disuades cheesing the entire fortress with the Mask (if you already know it exists) or blowing your chance to use it on the one place where being invisible is actually useful (Not knowing it exists).
Aside from the lighting, for me, it's removing all of the intentional pauses and timings for dialogue.
i hate how master quest mode in OoT 3ds is tied to the mirror mode. mirroring shit isn't more challenging it's just disorientating. different layouts are challenging
the mask is still used in ikana canyon so it still had a use even if you didn't get in before the fortress.
Because they made flying slower, ergo flower must be closer so new players can still make it.
