Visually this was pretty weird and I think that's why it didn't get as much hype as say, dusk.

Yes. It's like Dusk but instead of a pistol you have a trident that arcs lightning.

i only care about videogames if they're removing things i literally never would've noticed or cared about before

it got threads for a bit around release. Definitely my favorite of the new wave of doomclones. fantastic level design and art direction

it’s only hexen in appearance. similar to quake but does its own thing.

It's much more like Quake/Dusk than Hexen mechanically, if you like those, go for it.

Game was great.

I fucking loved the worlds and the enemies, but the bosses were only "meh" in my eyes. Even on the higher difficulties they weren't terribly dangerous and could only take a very limited amount of actual punishment. They also lacked some of the "grandeur" I wanted.

That still only reduces it from a 10/10 to a 9/10 though because fuck the game was fun.

The anachronistic blend of modern lighting technology with old style assets results in some beautiful visuals, though.
