>8 and 16 bit sprites at the same time
Looks like a professionally developed Newgrounds flash game

Does anyone fucking play these things? I see them every year but I keep forgetting they're actual games.

They're putting infinite+ effort this time specifically because home turf advantage. If it's shit it reflects poorly on Nippon.

I played the first couple they were pretty fun especially the dream events desu , thinking about picking up this one because it seems pretty high budget.

Wow, this one actually looks fun.

They're genuinely fun games and this one has the extra effort mainly because they skipped the Korean winter Olympics and got a bigger budget thanks to that

This one might be the first one I actually buy, while the mix of 8 bit and 16 bit pisses me off seeing these characters competing in 2D really makes the crossover feel "real" to an oldfag like me in a way it never has before.

Plus this one apparently has a story mode too

I'm pretty sure the DS ones also had a story mode, but I never played those so I don't know for sure

Sorry, not even close to peak soul

English one was better.

try again

Damn user, is this what we're doing now?

honestly what makes these so special and what can we learn from these?

Knuckleheads, these aren't even the most soulful of their respective shows.

To me old anime endings feel lonely. They give off a feeling of saying goodbye to friends and leaving a familiar place for the last time. I don't know if this is just how they are, or if it's conditioning because I would usually watch these staying up late and it was the last thing I'd see before I went to bed.

I unironically think this has just as much soul as Smile Bomb (Yu Yu Hakusho opening) does

oh shit you're right

Nowhere near peak soul there bud.

Only Winter 2010 did to my knowledge

The first one on DS was surprisingly fun

>Watching random anime openings on YouTube
>Find an 80s/90s opening I've never even seen before
>Makes me totally nostalgic as if I had grown up watching it

What is this black magic

They really should have used Super Mario World sprites and 16bit environments, because as it is Sonic sprites have a lot more animations and generally look "better" but don't really fit in next to the 8bit Mario sprites and world.

It's got that Newgrounds flash kino aura

Come on, even Newgrounds knew to use the Super Mario World sprites with Sonic

>Kino
A retard's buzzword.
And that's not the kind of aura you should have in your professional multimillion dollar official olympic video game. It's a poor decision no matter how you look at it.

The original wii one was great. You could unlock retro songs by playing minigames, that was cool. The rest, I dunno, hit and miss really. But this one's gonna be really good.

lmao @ fucking braindead niggerfaggots like you who don’t know that the genesis originally was competing with the nes

Even the shitty no effort Mario & Sonics were good because it's just an excuse for SEGA's music team to go ham with remixes for no reason other than that they can

Kino

>Mario is 8-bit
>not using Sonic's existing 8-bit sprite

>Sonic is 16-bit
>not using Mario's existing 16-bit sprite

There's a theory going around this game has a fucking massive budget right out of the Japanese Governments pocket, would make sense considering their are 4 Olympic games coming out and this one is by far the most likely to sell.

No shit, faggot. It was the first of a new console generation. That doesn't mean that it doesn't look jank as fuck.

>There's a theory going around this game has a fucking massive budget
It sure as fuck doesn't look like it.

>mixels
Hideous

The fuck are you talking about, this is the highest quality Mario and Sonic have ever looked in terms of model detail, gameplay wise there's only so much you can do for a minigame collection since its impossible to do anything else for an olympic video game.

Which character represents America?

>this is the highest quality Mario and Sonic have ever looked in terms of model detail
And it doesn't even come close to Mario Tennis Ultra Smash/Aces, and those were rushed as fuck.

Sonic, he loves chilli dogs and the flag

The Mario and Sonic game's almost always have higher polygon counts on everything compared to their other releases.
It's mainly due to the fact the series has been a talent poach since its inception, Sega employees show Nintendo how competent they are to try and get jobs their, its why the lead level designer for Sonic Unleashed worked on the new Zelda game as the map designer, or why pretty much the entire Generations team worked on Rio.

>dream racing
sonic riders is back baby

Still no English trailer?

World sprites suck tho
