He was fun. Played him as a former typical lizardfolk that attempted to learn cultural norms of the more civilized races, but was super gullible and naive due to his kind not having a use for deceit (a divisive tribe doesn't lend itself to survival), and had trouble understanding the emotional responses of other people (ie when he tried to do a nice thing for some random woman by wading out into a river and catching a fish and bringing it to her, and when she looked at him in disgust he acted like a parent trying to get a child to eat something by eating it themselves, so he bit into the raw fish and was like "it's good, see?").
Hospitaler and Warrior of the Holy Light archetypes, so his offensive abilities weren't super high in favor of more support, but when he used his one smite he could put the hurt on with dual chakrams.

Eh, some people just don't care to mess around with the more unusual racial options. Personally, I prefer to stick with characters that make sense for the setting and campaign - sure, there's plenty of races with interesting mechanics or lore that I wouldn't mind trying out, but if the character doesn't fit what's going on, it's a little harder to get invested in RP and stuff.

Lizardfolk are my favorite race, as I said earlier I'm a zoo vet tech that specializes in reptiles, reptiles have always been near and dear to me. Any time a DM doesn't limit the playable races to the boringass core races and gives me the option to play a lizardfolk, I jump all over it.
Unfortunately, one of my current groups is half full of twats that want to start calling me a furry because I played a lizardfolk in three of our games, even though I've done literally nothing remotely indicating that I'm a furry.
Sorry, but the race is cool, +2 STR/CON and a +8 racial to swim and an innate swim speed are super useful bonuses. Better than playing a fucking human or elf every damn game.
Just don't let your dick do the playing, user, and you'll be fine.
Currently playing a lizardfolk druid in one of my games. Proposed a future idea to the group and a couple of them proceeded to shit all over it which rustled my jimmies a bit since they had literally no argument as to why it was a bad idea and they only poopoo'd it because they personally didn't like it. Pirate/marine based game, I suggested why don't I build us a ship made of living wood and then awaken it, it'd have so many benefits, their entire argument was slavery bad (per Awaken it's not fucking slavery), they'd have to convince it to go into battle for us (we wouldn't have to because per Awaken it'd do almost anything for us out of gratitude for being given sentience), and it'd feel pain as other ships shoot it with cannons (debatable, does Awaken magically give pain receptors? Also, it can be fucking reinforced, it gains an armor class due to being a creature, and what about the fucking ship workers that we're likely going to send into battle at risk to their lives????). Will probably awaken my own ship so we'll have two ships.

One ship that is our normal ship with the crew, handles up front battling and whatnot.
Second ship is a sentient ship that basically sails itself. It'll have a living figurehead so it can communicate with us. Will have legs, and maybe a tail, which would help with sailing through shallows and avoiding corals and rocks, and it can walk out on shore if needed, won't be beached if we get stuck in low tide. I'll turn it into a living fortress, with a bunch of magical plants that protect it and offer other benefits, and the ship is its own sentry as it'll be able to tell if someone not part of our crew tries to board it. I'll suggest we use the ship as the storage for our valuables, or failing that, maybe make it able to go submarine mode and sneak up on other ships while they're engaged with our main ship. Give the figurehead a massive weapon like a spear or something that it stabs a hole through the other ship's hull. Awakened creatures can also gain class levels, so we could also have it take caster levels which would be hilarious.
Failing this, I could also make a fleet of tiny awakened boats that have figureheads wielding weapons that run around as strike units harrying other ships.

I've been debating doing something similar with a character.
Something that looked like either a scrawny Lizardfolk or dragonborne with some ill-fitting armor and a flameberg sword that he'd use like a spear. He was basically found alone at the edge of a forest where presumably his tribe lived, and was taken in by some affluent old knight. Worked as a servant he would eventually learn to read a bit, and listen to stories of knighthood and he was enraptured. Ends up becoming a Fighter Cavalier spreading the virtues of chivarly to anyone that would listen. The sort of rub being that by this time in the story the gallant Knight, as an idea, was well past its way out. Basically a Lizard Don Quxiote

One of my previous lizards was adopted by a high class family and his adopted father was an important knight. Lizard wanted to be just like him and become a knight too. Turns out, his adopted father ended up getting murdered right in front of the rest of the family, and the lizard's latent psionic abilities came out (he was a soulknife). Ended up joining mercenaries as a means of trying to figure out who was behind the murder, mercenaries didn't help at all and only when he finally meet one of the kingdom's top knights that knew his father did he gain a lead. Game ended before it could be delved into. Somewhat early in the journey, he drank the blood of a dragon and was transformed into a lizard-dragonborn combo and his soulknife levels replaced with a homebrew class (DM asked my permission first) that basically was able to turn into dragons and cast spells. Ended up being pretty fun, for a long time I was severely underplaying him in combat but once everything clicked he became one of the party's biggest damage dealers, I did a natural attack build that focused on his claws, I think bite, and he gained a tail attack, then when he shapeshifted into dragon form he could do even more hurt. It was fun.

Hard to say, since they're still putting out pretty regular updates, even some of them going back to less handholdy types of quests and formats which really surprised me since it came with a lot of number and stat bloat that I'd normally chalk up to an appeal to more casual players... and yet stuff like Kunark Ascending doesn't even have quest markers.
Despite all that though I'm still pretty happy with the game's race selection and design. Just wish Next hadn't gone tits up since the concept art and design seemed like it was going in the right direction.

Then there are those events that rotate every month, like the Q-Realm you mention. Gimmick is that they're all from different Time Periods

One is a Raptor-Man from prehistoric times
And the last one is a mystic Snake Woman from the amazon rainforest, it's unclear what time she's from since her society has hidden it's self extremely well throughout time
Together they fight different enemies from their respective time periods
It'd be similar to Comic Jumper or Spiderman:Shattered Dimensions with the multiple styles
