Why did HOTS flop?
Why did HOTS flop?
It didn't innovate - no Cho'Gall isn't innovating, it's interesting and it's a novelty but it's not innovating
It didn't do anything better
It dumbed everything down too much
It tried to pretend to be a competitive game - because corporate suits are retarded and keep forcing the esports angle
Blizzard
blizzard
It's still being updated
> blizzard
Don't you mean activision?
Too much grinding to unlock characters
Blizzard
blizzard
How is a complete shared experience pool, multiple different objective based maps, and characters like chogall not innovation???????
The game failed because marketing as a casual mo a doesnt get you anywhere, blizzard fucks over their games, and then the sudden cancellation and fucking over of their entire competitive community and players was the nail in the coffin for that fucking game.
Plus the shitty "nexus born" characters
All it did is take away from the formula and it didn't add anything significant or interesting
The most interesting thing it did is put focus on pushing and make push specialists, but they've weakened or removed pretty much all of that by now
It is a good game with high tempo and emphasis on teamplay.
It has weird stigma of being "casual" or "easy" or whatever - where as you need to play really tight to actually secure a win.
DOTA 2 took so much influence from HOTS its not even funny and people who praise DOTA 2 have the face to critique HOTS for the same things.
It was too team reliant so you had shitters ruining the experience for better players
that's literally in every moba, if you don't want to play with retards then don't play multiplayer games
Dumbing down a game isn't innovation it's literally the opposite.
>multiple objectives
Literally every MOBA has this.
>multiple maps
More maps isn't innovation especially if they're either the same design or shit. Look at WoT for how shit maps come and go.
Innovation would be something like having actual RTS elements in a MOBA or another significant mechanic like "buying heroes". None of these aforementioned changes are anything drastic that change how MOBAs are played or considered in design.
In other mobas one good player can swing the match which allows them to climb the ranks and get away from those shitters
Dota does everything right though, they take ideas from other games but refine it because Icefrog is a genius that also takes suggestions from pros and not a corporate suit.
>replace +2 stats
>with talents that dramatically spice up hero options and power spikes and fix what would otherwise be power dips and counters so they're at least usable
The WK talent for no mana reincarnation alone made him viable. Ember's talents and SF allow them both to be more spellcaster/item based heroes vs physical damage based carries.
"Innovation is something I like and if I dont like it it's not innovation" go play league fucking dumbass
Multiple objectives in league dude! Dragon and baron! Wow! Hots actually had tons of different maps with completely different playstyles depending on the map, eat shit and dont talk about games you dont play.
Too simple. Complexity isn't inherently good, but HotS felt too widdled down and child-proof.
Also map design was dogshit. For a game that pushed "having more than one map!" as one of its selling points, most of the maps sucked. But at the same time the maps are so simple and repetitive that you couldn't just play the same map over and over if you wanted to, unlike other MOBAs were you never really think about the fact that there's one map.
Multiple objectives isn't innovative retard. You can define literally ANYTHING as an objective. That's how DOTA fucking works.
>bounty runes
>power runes
>towers
>rosh
>jungle
>didn't innovate
>dota straight up copies their stupid talent thing
i agree with everything else tho
>DOTA 2 took so much influence from HOTS its not even funny
When will retards stop spewing this? HotS didn't invent fucking talent trees
It's hardly innovating when it's merely compensating for NOT having items. Dota actually innovated by drastically changing up the game because Icefrog isn't fucking afraid of big changes. Literally EVERY hero went from 0 talents to 8 different ones. That's a huge fucking impact on how much more knowledge and strengths each hero has.
hyper bland latter day blizzard art combined with sub-lol level dumb down gameplay for sóygoys.
you tell me
>add a basic item shop and gold farming system to the game alongside talents
>make objectives on some maps do something other than damage towers
>make mercenaries do more than just march down lanes. The overwatch maps had some more interesting camps, although fairly weak.
>stop with the OC heroes and just continue adding blizz characters players want to see, nobody gives a shit about cunny mage and we wuz hots
this is what I'd add to the game
The casual mode has you pick your hero before you even queue.
Thats it.
The core interest of a moba is utilizing your roster knowledge and outsmart your opponents. Because casual removes the real core complexity of the genre most players with get the impression that the game is a shallow pile of hot garbage as they will suffer the literal crapshoot of blind chance for their first few games and never even glance at ranked.
It was somehow more casual than LoL, an already casual mod of a Warcraft 3 casual mod.
Garbage engine
No mod tools
Nu Blizz lore
At the end the balance was shit as hell the fucking game always pairs you with incompetent players, if you are not playing with at least other two friends you are fucked.
>flop
It. Was. fucking. Killed.
fuck activision, they can rot in hell for all i care.
God, I loved this game so much.
Looks fucking terrible.
That character design is atrocious.
It ironically was the best moba out there because it removed everything that makes mobas fucking awful.
neck yourself tard
No it's still the same shitty ugly garbage for brazillians and 12 year olds like every other moba.
How can someone be so delusional?
It wasn't killed, it was just another casual cash-grab game like blizzard pumps out now.
Is this real?
It flopped because activision made anyone with any talent quit so the idiots left at blizzard couldn't balance for shit
This. Blizzcucks will pretend to hate Blizzard every waking moment then eat up whatever they shit out next because they're mindless consumers. Then the fans will perceive Blizzard "ruined" something in their flavor of the month, then they will go back to shitting on Blizzard, and the cycle repeats.
I'm saying that there are different maps that play different, not that there are more than 2 objectives in 1 map you ficking retard
>imagine loving the plainest, lamest, most poorly thought out dollar store rip off of an actual game
blizzard
Because it appeals way to much to casuals.
The games fun to play for a few days with some buds, after that shit's garbage.
Meanwhile dota and league are addicting and have a lot more depth, once you get hooked on them there's no coming back.
Yes. Activision wants to kill the game, and there was literally no positive reaction to her reveal.
yeah i can't imagine why people like DOTA either
Ironically theres one in every damn qm game I play. It just goes to show you that people will buy literal shit if blizzard sold it.
There's one in every QM because she absolutely destroys QM, same with Anduin. Sorta like how Zul is an instant-lock if he shows up in Brawl.
