Seriously why doesn't he just make a movie

...

Screenshot this now: Death Stranding will be panned as over-hyped and underwhelming upon or shortly after release

What a hack. What a fraud. What a trickster. What a shame.

because he doesn't want to. you realize that games as a medium have a unique way of storytelling because you as the player actually have agency? that's what kojima likes, and he sure as hell has the money to make a movie if he wanted to

>muh moviegame

Yeah, no. Stories do not belong in video-games. Period.

I might still buy it. 'Cause Kojimbo made it.
...and panned games are sometimes still fun to play..

>inb4 muh lazy hack
He puts in a lot of effort to make sure every aspect of the game is right. Without close supervision is how you get games like Anthem.

Death Stranding:
>Massive map
>Your objective is to travel to the west coast of America, while delivering packages and making allies for Bridges
>You must safely travel across rough terrain while managing things like keeping your BB safe so you can maneuver around BTs safely, your health (which is measured in ml, so you can bleed out possibly?), and the durability of your packages and boots
>You can use various tools such as ladders and climbing rope (and more i've seen in menus, but can't identify) to maneuver around the terrain, and you have a limited amount of them, so if you get distracted by BTs or human enemies, you might have to leave something behind, which will hinder your travelling capabilities. There are going to be various exoskeletons that you can use, probably with different benefits and different cargo capacities. We only know of the "speed" exoskeleton, which judging by game logic is probably going to move faster than normal speeds but can only hold less items. The Ludens armor might be an end-game or secret exoskeleton/equipment
>Extremely varied locations like easy to traverse plains with small hills, rocky plateaus with claustrophobic crevices that you have to traverse past, and probably in, ruined cities, areas with lots of small mossy mountains and rivers, mars-like wastelands, massive mountains peaked with snow, snowy mountains, dense forests/swamp forests, and most likely more. According to leaks and speculation, possibly even the moon will be an end-game area. I wouldn't be surprised if there's even caves
>Various types of BTs, like the floating umbilical cord ones, based on cutscenes some that appear to be quadrupeds, when BTs catch you they can bring you to various miniboss-esque enemies that are dangerous
>When you die, you get transported to an ocean-like realm where you search for your body and items in first person, to come back to life

oh shut the fuck up

reddit

>When BTs eat a corpse, a voidout happens and leaves behind a crater. Possibly an aspect of gameplay as it is shown you can also deliver corpses and there was a cutscene showing a corpse being cremated, so you might also have to bag up and cremate any corpse you find to prevent craters that could interfere with travel.
>There is also Hades, the WW1 realm, which others also say you go when you die. Though with the confirmed ocean realm, that doesn't make much sense. If you fail to find your body and come back to life in time in the ocean realm, then perhaps a voidout happens at your corpse, you lose all the packages you were delivering, and you get sent to Hades where you have to fight/find a way out to restore your disintegrated body and come back to life
>A part of one of the trailers shows you breaking open a case for your rifle, and in the menu when pulling out a ladder in release trailer, there was a rifle, so it is possible that the rifle is something you have to opt in to bring along if you think your path is going to be especially dangerous, and it will add onto your weight so you don't always want to bring it, but your handgun will always be with you
>There are multiple delivery companies, the hazmat looking people probably one of them because they were trying to steal packages. Will most likely also have to watch out for rival delivery companies trying to hijack your packages, and they will probably also have varying equipment to attack you, but most will most likely not use guns because they don't want to damage the packages. You most likely will also be able to steal their packages and deliver them
>You might get to temporarily use superpower things like the golden mask later in the game
>Mama milkies

Either this is going to be a mediocre game with extreme potential that gets underutilized, or it's going to be one of the greatest games ever made. I think the scale leans towards the latter , but nothing is set in stone, anything can happen. Take a look at pic related, how the station in the distance is so far yet so detailed, that also hints at the map being massive because it looks like you can go there.

Because film critics would chew him out instead of sucking his tiny yellow dick as most game journos do

Read a book, you fucking fruitcake.

Seriously. The guy hasn’t released a good game in over a decade, and if we’re being truthful the last genuinely good game he released was in 2004. Death Stranding is just gonna be a big empty repetitive clusterfuck like V and PW.

Also, take a look at the crater in the top picture, and try to find it on the full map

>reddit
yikes

enjoy your movie game, bucko

i've read plenty, but video game stories cannot be compared with book stories because in a book, you're just "spectating" it, in the game, you're a part of it, which brings a different kind of entertainment.

Yeah, but imagine how hard it' been for the guy who had to keep Hideo supplied with fresh celebrities and Instagramable meals so he wouldn't be around to come up with "revolutionary" ideas that would set the game back another year. Truly the unsung hero.

By core gamers, maybe. Koji cultists will defend anything bearing his name and there's not a single major games publication that would have the balls to give it less than a seven even if they weren't enthralled by walking and vistas alone. Kojima is guaranteed at least one commercial success. It hardly seems to matter whether or not the game is actually good.

the same film critics that gave the last Jedi 85 on metacritic? lmao
implying they don't already fellate people way worse than kojima

Play chess if you just want gameplay.

I played the goddamn intro of MGSV The phantom pain, i have no idea why people liked that random shit on his games, i barely made it to the first mission and man, i really didn't want to keep playing inb4 muh artistic symbolic bs characters, yeah nah bro i was confused as fuck and very uninterested , i wonder if the older games are worth playing since most people suggest this man has GOTY games all over the
gaming industry. Death stranding seems like an everything could happen game, plot twists out the ass and randomness like no ever game did before.

>yikes
cringe

65 on Metacritic, bargain bin by January

This is going to run like shit on the ps4. Should have been on pc day 1.

kys

This game is going to be a 6/10 that gets a 8.5/10 because of the hype. Screencap this.

Why does Death Stranding piss everyone off?

It would get 9+ all over the place because its going to be a movie game and not an RPG.
Journos love their movie games because they dont have to play that much to write their quota pages

>make an open world survival game
>call it a brand new genre
Kojima is a moron

>set in America
>looks like Wales

arr westan country rook same

Literally either paid off by disney or had a political reason for praising the film. Kojima wouldn't have the same treatment.

>what is timefall, the rain that speeds up time years in seconds on anything it touches

masochism.
Imagine it would've come out in one form or the other in the golden age of games we reminisce here all the time; we would've hoped for the best and hyped for it. even people from other systems would hope for a success because its important for video games to generally take things further.

No u

I wonder how much of the game is going to be optional. You visit the other world by dying, right? So when you beat the game without dying do you skip all the black goo / WW1 shenanigans? Will the other world have it's own share of side missions or something? Do you have to visit it to beat the game?

maybe after DS ;;)

I guess there are some more or less forced visits to Hades

I'd assume there's some points in the game where Sam could die in a cutscene, like perhaps in an encounter with one of the superpower guys like the mask man.

It would be cool if there weren't though. I think he said every character you meet has an optional story line with quests and so on, so I kinda wish the game had multiple endings depending on what you did.

Yeah, if these were PS2 days it would be possible to have a discussion about Death Stranding. Now every rando that's not even interested feels like they need to give their 2 cents.

MGS5 was shit, this will be shit.

Nah i was joking lad, no one deserves to die over an internet argument, i hope you enjoy the game. Cheers user.

I hope its actually a good game.
It's not Metal Gear so I'm scared.

Kojima mentioned how something good might happen if everyone keeps pissing in the same place, I wonder what exactly the multiplayer is going to entail and how you affect other peoples world.

I mean its pretty obvious just by the footage thats been shown

I think its two complete different things. He hated the MGS Franchise at one point. He was tired of it. Already at MGS3 he obviously started to make fun of the legacy of the game, namely big boss. At MGS4 he was completely burned out and had a more or less severe depression. Its reflected in the game. He never finished "5", we dont know why, but even he admits its an failure. What its lacking is written in its name. Also its V, not 5 for him.

As he gets so much hate here for beeing a hack, I can get that to some disagree with him and think he can seem over the top. For me his work, as with every artist, is more important than his character. I find the things he makes extremely funny and somehow invigorating like nothing else. Lets take the Stealth Spionage genre for instance: I think Splinter Cell is by far superior when it comes to depict stealth, but it completely lacks the unpredictibality of MGS games.
And this is the biggest thing he lost with his last games. I think with Death Stranding he will bring this back. Look at how no one even knows how this game will play and feel.

If it fails, well it will take a long time for him to recover. in the end i think hes to much of a narcissist to fuck this one up tho. He learned from MGS V
