Xenoblade chronicles 2

i can't understand the combat system
there are 50000 things on screen and wtf is ether?

it's just a retard barrier

>Use auto attacks to build up arts
>Use arts to build up specials
>Use specials to build up blade combos
>Use blade combos to build up orbs
>Use chain attacks to break orbs and nuke the enemy into oblivion
That's the gist of the combat.

user, please. The battle system is pretty logical, and everything builds up from a common ground. My fucking 12yo nephew understood almost everything just by trying and error just by taking the pad while I was away for like half an hour. Only the Orb system and blade Combos he couldn't grasp by himself, but that one can't be understood without reading tutorials.

Basically what said, and also on top of this you have the Blade Combos that will be introduced in chapter 3 (and you also have the fusion combos, but that's a story for another time).

I would just like to add one thing to this: Use orb to seal annoying status effects.

I know it isn't mandatory, but it help alot before your party becomes strong enough to quickly defeat enemies, specially seals that prevent shackles, stench and affinity lowering stats.

>Artist with a godlike talent to draw.
>Is a fujoshi.
Goddammit.

>tfw it's also the very same artist that did the only (few) good Skies of Arcadia arts in existence
>it's all fujo as well
Fug. But the greatest taste in jRPGs

Can't you only have one seal active at a time?

Yes, you can only have only one seal at a time, active until the next seal you place on the enemy

Attached: EClUk0-UEAATlyv.jpg orig.jpg (2508x3541, 585K)

Yes. Still useful, though, and you can see what seal you have active in the upper right corner of the screen.

>tfw I know how the combat works but this still looks confusing to me

It looks like shit but there's an easy flow to combat.
I even prefer it to Xeno 1/X's system.

I find it more comfortable if only because you don't have to scroll through a menu to access different arts.

The combat really is an enormous pain in the ass to explain. It's going to look like nonsense on paper no matter what you do.

Is also the official artist of wild arms.

>xenocringe
someone post the copy pasta, you know the one.

You're right, I forgot.
OP here's the newfag pasta

-Screencap tutorials because there isn't a reasonable way to view them again.
-Rex automatically gets fantastic blades so you don't need to give him much Blades from the gacha (but give him 2 or 3 good Blades)
-Use Pouch Items as much as possible, especially the ones that lets you recharge your Arts faster. Makes the flow of the battle better.
-On skill trees, you will see an ability unlock "Cancel a driver art with another driver art". It's imperative that you unlock this ASAP because it boosts the flow of battle tremendously.
-Also get the 3 skills that lets you start a battle with the Art already charged on the X, Y and B buttons
-Understand the Attack Cancelling mechanic, as it makes the flow of the battle better by recharging Arts quickly
-Swapping blades refills their arts palette.
-You can combo into and out of swapping blades.
-Most enemies will aggro you if you aren't 8 levels above them. And look at your environment before taking a step in the wild, or you could get your ass raped by a Gorilla 80 levels over you. But the game don't punish you for exploring, so don't be afraid to do it.
-Don't use too much bonus XP at inns unless you really need to because it can completely trivialize the game.
-Focus on the Driver Combo of Break > Topple > Launch > Smash when they will be introduced. The sooner you can understand this set up, the better.
-You can raise trust between a Driver and their Blade by repeatedly using pouch items over and over again. It costs money, but later in the game money is a non-issue.
-Raising trust with your Blade is needed to unlock the Blade's skill tree in most cases.
-Don't waste protocol overdrives. Especially on common blades. The game only gives you a few.
-DON'T kill the little Arduran in Torigoth until you feed it to Lv.99. He'll become the best Legendary Cores farming spot.

Based

I have a bar on my screen that says "Semen Meter" but I don't see it in this guide?

Also protip about the Blade and Fusion combos: if you're doing a Blade Combo, and you see the enemy for whatever reason (usually because of Nia) get a "Break" status, try and follow up with Anchor Shot. You'll perform something known as a Driver Combo (it's that Break>Topple>Launch>Smash business). It can be daunting when the game tries to load it onto you, but the gist is, Nia/Dromarch and your fourth party member should be able to do Break easily, and you can easily Topple with Anchor Shot, and eventually your fifth party member can Launch easily. When you do these, you get extra time and effects on your Blade Combo timer.

If you tap the analog stick forward during the end of an Auto-Attack, you can cancel the recovery, making the blasted thing shorter and charging up your Arts faster.

Finally, my approach to food is simple. Find and buy ones that charge at least Party Gauge, Arts or Specials and have on top of that have one additional effect. If you can find em, salvage and sell your salvage until you get higher dev levels and then do Merc Missions at the end of the region's list to unlock new store items.

Tying back into this, trim your Blade roster at the early levels by looking at their skill trees and eliminating non-Rare blades that only have an "Elemental Mastery" field skill so you're always making way for blades that at least come with a skill relevant for Merc Missions.

I'm not condoning it, but I feel like it isn't a JRPG if the combat mechanics isn't a complete mess. Like if I wanted real gameplay I'd play a shooter, or a bingbing wahoo/HYAAAAH, or one of the many indie games emulating them. Regular ass JRPGs can't hope to serve you Chrono Trigger's gameplay anymore so it's important that they serve you a mess to mechanics so that you feel like there's some gameplay in understanding how these mechanics all pile in top of one another.

Just take it slow and practice till you get it, you've got plenty of time to learn each mechanic before they introduce the next, but there always is a next mechanic.

Kek. I want to imagine every Blade having this realisation about their outfit at some point or other. The best part is they'll forget that revelation by the time their next Driver comes along. Bless the Architect.

What did we do to deserve to have a God not as based as Klaus?

Nia looks good on a anything.

Why does everyone shit on Tora? I think he's p cool.

Newt wouldn't give a shit, she'd just say she's proud of the body she works on.

He wears a shirt calling Pyra "best girl" infront of Mythra and Poppy

Attached: 1551392395163m.jpg (1024x576, 112K)

I love him as well. My favorite Nopon in the franchise, and I really liked Riki. I hope we'll get a Nopon party member as fun as them in XC3

2019... I am forgotten.

That sneaky bastard made Poppi QTπ a fucking homage to Pyra and he's an absolute fucking unit. He must've been all "if Rex-Rex can get big sword and busty leotard waifu, surely Tora with power of science can also have big sword and busty leotard waifu".

How will Tora react when his daughter-blade wants to try out the Master Driver too?

This artist isn't ever going to stop drawing Nia in different outfits, are they?
Good.

>Dat cute scarf
>Dat kickass designed sword
>Dat everything
Tora made a Blade that surpassed the fucking Aegis, even. He's just that based.

Well I guess I know what I'm doing for the next 15 minutes.

Attached: D5P6QqVUwAAFujI.jpg orig Poppi.jpg (720x1100, 130K)

Pretty sure Soosoo, Tatazo and Tora hard coded Poppi to be loyal, remember that Lila needed a really powerful ass mod just to disobey orders. Poppi may rib on Tora in her older forms, but I'm pretty sure its playful ribbing.

I never found Chrono triggers gameplay all that interesting. Battles starting with no transition was way more impressive

Absolutely based and hilarious
>try not to screw up Zeke Zeke

As long people give her ideas.

Exactly. Technology and the industry have moved on, and unless you're Dragon Quest or Pokémon you can't expect to serve up the standard turn based combat. Even Pokémon at least popularised the monster collection mechanic. Persona 5 ensures theres a dating sim and the weakness mechanic to keep your noggin busy. You see where I'm going with this?

Rex is mine!

Attached: 1526564240454.png (289x273, 160K)

How old is he, if he can't have wine but also can get the ladies? 14? 16?

Oh I misread you. Agreed. Only barebones RPG I'm willing to put up with is DQ these days.

Why do artists STILL not give Nia her core crystal, it takes literally a google search to figure it out, how do artists not add it, it's such a small but important detail

Attached: honksad.png (291x382, 112K)

gonna draw murag

Is Morag.

Old enough and with the power of the aegis, will be whatever age I desire!

Attached: 1535576515462.jpg (717x542, 267K)

Sometimes it's just an innocent mistake. I've seen artists that draw XB2 fanart almost exclusively forget cores several times.

Do you think, because of her station, Morag needs to wear dresses every now and again? Or is it that because of her station she doesn't need to wear dresses.

How do you think Brighid reacts when Morag puts on anything feminine.

He's 15 according to Takahashi.

>How should I put it in...
Nice and slow

Attached: 1566180870358.jpg (320x283, 29K)

>Morag
Mòrag

Attached: I HAD HAIGH HOPES FOR YEW.png (1441x1920, 957K)

Bah, that fucker's old enough for a beer. Just not on camera or on set while they're filming.

What does the accent do?

Attached: tumblr_pid7t8JgiJ1qd8vs4o2_400.png (400x400, 187K)

Probably? I can't imagine it'd be an issue for her, see seems to like girly shit well enough. Brighid and her seem to share beauty tips and such, I can't imagine they wouldn't discuss fashion as well.

In Europe yes. In Japan no. Japan's legal drinking age is 20.

Norag.

Attached: IMG_20190410_194403.jpg (1110x2048, 161K)

How would the blade girls react to this?

Attached: IMG_20190818_174240.jpg (900x836, 149K)

Mythra would be jealeus, Pyra would be thinking in threesomes.

They're already willing to share, so I think they'd be fine with it. Mythra would probably be happy for a chance to sleep soundly, without getting creampied 4x first. She'd miss it after a day, but still.

Nobody has explained what ether is, so I might as well.

Check your Arts description on the menu and you'll see that some of them are Physical while others are Aether. Ether will modify the damage of the those instead of Attack, so you should focus on it instead of Attack if you're using a lot of Aether Arts instead.
It's sorta like Wizard vs Fighter if you want it explained in an easier way, where you boost your Arts with INT instead of STR.

This guide is also a tad incomplete and it doesn't take much to explain the rest:

Auto Attacks are a sequence of 3 attacks, each stronger that the previous one, that loops back when it's over.

Once you charge your Special Attack to 3, it will automatically but slowly start charging up to 4, giving you a mucher stronger attack to use.

If you use an Art right at the end of a Basic Attack or another Art, you'll "interrupt" it, using that Art right away with no downtime and earning extra charge for the Special Attack as well as the other Arts.
You know you interrupted properly by noticing an FX bubble that pops up when done correctly.
Interrupting the second or even the third Basic Attack will give you more charge for your Arts.

There's a series of special effects you can cause on your enemy with some Arts. If performed in the correct order, you'll earn more loot during the fight and are able to cause far more damage.
These are Break, Topple, Launch, Smash in that order. Keep in mind if there's any Art that can use one of these since you'll most likely need your teammates to do part of this combo.

cute

And the artist draws fujoshit instead of more of this.

oh trust me I just spent the past half hour or so jacking off to their fujoshit
but poppi is very cute as well

>confirmed most unpopular route in japan.
>Most hated Character in korea.
This and the Nia one are now cursed images.

Attached: IMG_20190810_225251.jpg (1534x2048, 191K)

>And the artist draws fujoshit instead of more of this.
Based. We need more artists like them, the XB2 boys are neglected as hell.

Nia's one.

Attached: IMG_20190713_210634.jpg (1534x2048, 238K)

user, I think you are gay.

Zeke as Dimitri would actually be pretty based

>It's Hitler but she's a waifu
>And instead of killing Jews she wants to murder Manaketes
>Manaketes are either doting motherly types with massive tits and an ungodly hourglass figure, or small loveable cute girls
>WTF bros!? Why does everyone hate Edeltard!?

A mystery for the ages to be sure.

Attached: IMG_20190816_124210.jpg (750x1000, 246K)

What's the context here?

X's system was pretty fun too, I'm not sure which i actually enjoyed more. playing a photon saber build really came alive once i got the skills necessary for saber combos and it was nuts. of course endgame is all ghost factory cheese and infinite overdrive.

The play.

Attached: IMG_20190705_212043.jpg (1355x1843, 358K)

Frickith off

as a mostly gay guy pyra and mythra are definitely the most I've ever jacked off to a girl before
they're pretty much perfect

Then you aren't gay, you are bi.

Yea which is why I sad "mostly", it's rather rare.

I still have no idea what Seals do or what their purpose is and I beat the game.

I think they were meant to restirct elemental attacks?

Attached: IMG_20190728_173033.jpg (996x1505, 218K)

Xenoblade 2 would have an amazing combat system if whichever 2 characters you weren't directly controlling weren't retarded

Sealing reinforcements is the only really useful one, and even then only on specific superbosses

For the most part it doesn't really matter. As long as they switch for elements and do some combos it's all good. Of course when there's poison or cliffs around they really try to kill themselves.

Attached: 1563996437941.jpg (1447x2047, 388K)

my nigga

Attached: 1563377868287.jpg (1080x1080, 285K)

I've only had Zeke for about a chapter now and I already like him infinitely more than I do Rex. Why couldn't he have been the protagonist?

Too old.

fukken japs

Way too generic.

>Oh the protagonist was secretly a royal heir

He works way better as a secondary lead, and as someone helping/supporting Rex. Same reason you don't actually want Jack Sparrow as your lead character
