Guess it's kind of a big deal because at the time it came out there was this big Souce vs idtech4 thing going on. Ironically a year later both got blown the fuck out by Unreal Engine 3.
I'm on my fourth play through, everytime I forget how much of a slog it becomes after a few hours in. It hits me hard when I return from Hell.

It was kinda like Quake, you picked up weapons through the map and it was way faster than the single player.

I do. It wasn't very good. All I remember is lots of running about a very dark The Edge map, lots of clanging armour shard noises and grenade spam.
Trash game, play Doom 64 instead and pretend this never existed.
