I would say the biggest reason is that her growth as a character is comparable to the main lords. Her supports are generally good, she's one of the few characters that has good support scenes with Byleth and I would unironically call her A supports one of the best in the game regardless. Her design is great pre and post time skip. She has the coolest paralogue mission. She's a great unit no matter how you spec her. She has a sick demon sword and a suck crit quote. And sheproposes first.

On my BL route I recruited everyone but Ferdinand.
Anyway most of them got their solo endings. Mariane's solo ending is one of the better ones.

She's good as a Dancer, it gives her some handy sword moves, including sword avoid. Dancing is sort of lost on her since she's better offensively than support.

Alternatively, make her a Dark Knight or a Holy Knight for the tomefaire and mount (her personal ability triggers with a mount). I prefer Dark, since again she's geared to offense, but either works fine.

You could also make her a Mortal Savant, but considering the inferior speed growths to Dancer it's a direct down grade. You do get to see her chuuni it out.

I've married her on the GD, BL routes and are just about to marry Marianne again in the church route.

Brigand has better strength growths, it also opens up a potential hero path with A swords and C+ axes.

I ended using Linhardt as my dancer in BE. I got Dorothea for emergency Physics and Manuela for everything else and I found that abusing Canto and Stride meant I never needed to spam Warp or dance that much.

I've heard other people's Sylvains and Huberts were excellent, but mine were too god damned slow to avoid getting doubled, and too squishy to survive enemy phases without a meat wall.

It's a walking sim. You spend 90% of play time walking around the monastery talking to the characters rather than in battles. Every chapter of the game consists of a month with one battle towards the end of it and the rest of the time is managing character relationships, setting up class lesson plans for each week, managing inventory, and listening to dialogue. This is not an exaggeration. The hypocritical weebs on this board all whine about Western """walking sims""" all while praising games like this one which are overwhelmingly cutscenes, walking around looking for more cutscenes, and various other dialogue instead of gameplay. To answer your question, if you liked the battles in previous Fire Emblem games, you know what you're getting here as almost nothing has changed except the addition of assigning battalions to each unit to give them bonus abilities and stats and the removal of the "rock, paper, scissors" weapon type mechanics.

I believe it depends on the affection raised in combat mostly. On your character's history screen there will be a section in the bottom right corner that says "closest allies" and lists three characters, these are the candidates for marriage.

I liked how my Cyril turned out. The reason people dislike him is because he doesn't get crazy stats like Donnel and Mozu, and he's probably the olny unit with aptitude in the nuFE games that can get stat-screwed.

Speaking of traps, I think Lorenz is probably the biggest one in the game. Everything points at him being your designated Cavalry unit, but his str growths are complete shit and he's neutered unless you push him into mage instead. The only time he should be on a horse is in his master class.
And I just looked at his growths and he has 40/40 in str/magic. I guess I just got completely rng fucked with him, because mine had like 10 str and 20 magic.

Holy Knight never really struck me as great, nobody can really go into it easily and generally you want your horse units to have better offensive options rather than utility. Mages in general are almost always going to prefer Dark Knight anyway, since they should be going up the Reason tree for the better magic growths those classes provide.

Technically you do if you S rank one of them. The other is the mistress.

Dark/Holy Knight fall into master of none. They're magical classes that try to take on physical when they would be better just sticking to magic. A physical unit who tries to use one will find themselves without lancefaire and lowered physical stats, while not having enough of a boost to magic for it to be useful. Sylvain's a good example, his magic will end up so low that none of the units he would use magic on would get one-rounded because they have too much health. His physical stats are so much better that being a Paladin is preferable, especially since it has one more move than DK. Mortal Savant Felix is the same problem, just stick him on Assassin so he can at least get speed.

Great Knight has very little to offer, still less tanky than fortress, too. Might as well just stick with paladin if you need your unit to be mounted. If you have swift strikes tho go for it.

Wyvern and Falcon are both top tier, their growths are absurd and flying is always busted.

Gremory is just the best magic user you could ever hope for, too bad it's female only.

War Master is player phase rape with decent movement, works as a tank, too.

Now that I've thought about it, most master classes are fine, but Savant, and every mounted master class but BK are quite lacking.

I guess it adds replayability

You don't really need to. Bernadetta's an amazing bow knight, Hubert is nearly as good as Lysithea, Ferdichad is a good paladin, Petra is a god tier assassin. Linhardt and Caspar are the weak links, especially Caspar. He becomes amazing as a war master though if you're willing to babysit him that far.

Marianne is the red mage. She gets high crit spells, a stupidly strong magic sword to go with her crest, and she has good utility white magic in Psychic and Silence. She also has a natural regen with a mount, and has good survivability compared to other mages.

Her speed and dex are both very average, while her defense is abysmal. She'll have good magic and resistance, but that's about it. Her survivability won't be any better than a normal mage, and while having decent utility is nice, she also falls into the red mage trap of being a master of none. Someone will always kill things better, someone will probably heal better, and someone will tank hits better. Far from the second or even third best mage, though since she can heal she's also far from bad.

Felix is almost as chad as Dimitri, it's true. Guy one rounds like it's going out of style.

If people don't know, get her and Caspar if you don't have them because they get a paralogue post-timeskip only if they've joined you.

I recruited Lorenz real late , like a week before the final battle before part 2. I got his paralogue but couldn't battle it since I had to do the last mission. I didn't know about the thyrsus until it was too late

No, the house leaders and Hubert/Dedue are not recruitable. Hilda can be recruited if you're playing Blue Lions though.

Her supports with Byleth were, but her other supports are pretty nice. Most of the supports with Byleth are boring nothingness with the student repeating the same character quirk/trait they have every time while Byleth just says very bland responses.

The late game of BL is filled with so much Bolting and Meteor that Dedue's usefulness drops dramatically
