Poise

DS1: Poise breaks the game

DS3: No poise at all

Why can’t they get it right?

because rpg mechanics usually only ruin or get in the way of the action portion of arpgs. just play a real action game if you want good action gameplay

How would poise break the game? you were trading off mobility for endurance.

Dark Souls 3 poise only affects hyperarmor which is honestly fine. Poise is a retarded mechanic.

min/maxers.

"action games" are usually boring punching bag simulators where enemies don't actually pose a threat, though

Someone post the artorias webm

>DS1: Poise breaks the game
Only because it was arbitrary and thus encouraged min/maxing. Make poise tied to weight and it's instantly fixed.

same as souls. the difference is that action games are usually faster paced

>mfw I reset attributes for a 99 strength joke and it cost me forgetting my default stats

The "poise" system was just another means of making the game easier and harder. You lost nothing of value.

>do this IRL
>have to quit programming job and work in construction

Not every action game is DMC, zoomer.

>Why can’t they get it right?
lol they got it right in Dark Souls 2

Too bad literally everything else about it sucks.

They should just remove armor stats and make it all cosmetic, the ideal state of play is never taking damage whether by proper stamina management with shields or proper timing with rolls.

>got it right in Dark Souls 2
It doesn't matter what is being talked about, this statement will never be applicable.

Hyperarmor and poise are supposed to work in tandem with each other retard

I'm fucking dying over here

Is DS3 worth getting into now?

This always gives me a chuckle. I like it when stuff like this is possible in games, its boring when everything is overly balanced.

>DS1: Poise breaks the game
>DS3: No poise at all
Hmmm, of only there was a middle ground between DS1 and DS3... Oh, wait...

I never understood why people say poise is bad while defending hyperarmor, both are a crutch for poor timing and getting hit while attacked.

From can't fine tune balance for shit and when it comes to nerfing stuff they always go miles overboard. All poise needed to be balanced was adjusting so that it gets broken super quickly by strong attacks and slow weapons, so you can freely tank quick and weak hits, but still need to dodge the slower and more powerful ones.

Why does this same webm keep getting posted as if it wasnt already common knowledge that poise is overpowered in this 8 year old game? Are there that many underage newfags here who dont know that?

Poise is a shit mechanic. Demons souls had better combat.

>Why does this same webm keep getting posted as if it wasnt already common knowledge that poise is overpowered in this 8 year old game?
Because there are still some newfags who get triggered by it

...

Enemies not being staggerable at all is preferable to enemies having hyper armor on move startup. Fricking hated how enemy poise worked in BB and DaS3.

DS1
>Poise makes you not flinch to any attacks as long as it holds, heavy weapons have hyper armor moves that increase poise during their start-ups

DS2
>Poise makes it so your ACTIONS don't get interrupted for as long as it holds, heavy weapons have hyper armor moves that increase poise during their start-ups

DS3
>Poise does nothing BUT add to the poise bonus granted during moves that naturally have hyper armor

IMO DS2>>>DS1>DS3 when it comes to this mechanic.

>making the entire line of heavy amour unviable to use is nothing of value
kys dexfag

>for poor timing and getting hit while attacked.
I agree in theory. But if that was the case everyone would use spam dex weapons and ignore larger weapons... O wait thats Dark Souls 3 in a nutshell

Sekiro literally fixed it with the pose bar

>le bad mask meme
he was talking about mechanics, retard

I can only assume they removed poise just so people would die more often and thus "preserve the Dark Souls feel" or some BS like that.

hyperarmor != poise

>Code it so that you only get Dark Souls 1 poise if your character has ALL PIECES of Heavy armor AND a big heavy weapon
>Everyone else can mix and match and they will get only Dark Souls 3 hyper armor which scales off of the poise value
>This prevents poise monsters with quick weapons min/max faggotry

Wow so hard to do, Fromsoft definitely doesn't have shitty programmers that don't know what the fuck they are doing. So instead of fixing it, they opted to make it borderline RNG in Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 only has armor frames on your attacks for certain weapons and weapon arts. Demon's Souls also only has hyper armor, and so does Bloodborne. Fromsoft cannot get armor right. Even in Sekiro you only get armor frames. They have no fucking clue what to do with armor and I fucking bet you money Elden Ring will be the exact same. I love Fromsoft but the fact that a fucking armor mechanic has plagued them and baffled them for so long is hilarious and sad at the same time.

And I was saying fuck you that Dark Souls 2 didn't get poise right, smarty.

All the games got poise "right". It's you retarded PvP niggers who ruin every aspect of the game that can't keep yourselves from minmaxing and abusing the games mechanics in the worst ways possible that think poise is "ruined" or "OP". From a PvE perspective, there's nothing wrong with Poise in all three iterations.

it did though, it was way better than 1 and 3

Well, they DID get a few things right like the improved bow aiming or objects blocking the camera becoming see-through - something that DS3 took out again for whatever reason.

Staggerable bosses broke the game. I beat every boss in DS3 on first try with two handed mace except some dragon godzilla in DLC and it looked just as retarded as this webm.

Here's how to fix it
PvE: poise 100% on
PvP: poise 45% on

>DS1: Poise breaks the game
It doesn't.
Poise was perfect in 1.
