Most Dragon Quest games feature a religion that worships the Goddess Rubiss, who you actually meet in a few of them. It's clearly based on Christianity, but they've got their own thing going. It looks like they worship spirits instead of the goddess in DQXI, but I haven't played far enough to know if there's anything up with that.

Christian imagery used to be even more prevalent in DQ, by now most of it was removed. It never meant anything though, just an easthetics thing

Rubiss is from DQ I, II, and III. The Zenithian Dragon is in IV, V, and the end of VI, but only VI has King Zenith. VII has The Almighty/The Master/God. VIII has the goddess, but is not met in any direct way. IX has Zemus and Celestria. Yggdrasil is a common element in all games since you can find leaves, but it's pivotal in IX and XI.
