Speaking as someone who bought the game the day it was available. I'm surprised it says it will stay in EA until sometime in the second half of 2020.
Because its basically done outside of one missing weapon, a few character portraits and the ending cutscene. There's all the zones, all the bosses, enough gods to provide replayability. I don't really see what they will add to have Early Access last for months longer.
I wonder if they have a surprise in store. Maybe the ending is going to be longer then I thought.

I'm excited to play this game for the first time because Pyre and Transistor are two of my all time favorites but fuck early access and fuck EGS.

Man what did you actually like about Pyre? I loved the music and the first like...1/3 of the game, but after your first cycle through the board the game goes to such garbage so quickly and never recovered, it left a really bad taste in my mouth.

I felt like I got invested in the story which proceeded to flop and flounder in the worst way. One of the few games that I regretted spending time completing.

To the developers though it was better due to the smaller cut, even if it was early access plenty of those get sales on Steam, and now people who waited for it to get off Epic or just never heard of it will be able to try it out.

I actually liked the characterization quite a bit, which is why I felt everything passed the first act was disappointing. Characters seemed to respond and speak to each other less, sometimes not existing at all outside of confrontations with whoever their 'rival' teams were. It felt like they spread themselves too thin because there were too many possible combinations of missing characters after ascensions that they couldn't cover all angles.

I haven't even finished most of the games I bought in 2016, fuck, I am just now getting around to finally beating Persona 5 and I had the SE of that since Day 1

oh yeah and i forgot to mention perhaps the most important thing.
No other game incorporates music into it as well as Pyre does. each party-member/enemy character having their own instrument or theme makes it stand out so much more.
You can really notice this during a Rite. When the enemy picks up the Orb their theme will have something added to it. For example when the Essence pick it up clapping is added. It instantly adds weight and makes everything feel in tune with the way the Rite is going.

Darren Korb is brilliant with the way he layers his music and I dearly wish other games could do so as well.

But I also feel they helped mitigate that. Firstly, Volfred and Bertrude only start playing for you after you've liberated one exile iirc. Pamitha and Jodariel will agree to work with eachother after you've liberated an exile.

But yeah, eventually you are just going through the motions from Rite to Rite without much happening.
Then again the feeling of Loneliness and the Blackwagon feeling more empty as you liberate more people is likely intentional.

By the end of the game when you have so few people left, an era is ending, the nature of things are changing, the star themselves are going out and perhaps you should feel like its emptier then before.
One thing that really stuck out to me is the second-last rite where your opponents just dont show up because they know it won't matter and whoever you sent out (likely your last characters left) look so dismayed and disappointed. This is just before you face a man who has lost everything and is entirely justifiably angry at the Rites and you.

For a game with almost no violence it gets kind of bleak.

I think that my favourite moment past the initial liberation was definitely when you run into the demon dude in the wagon. It was really tense and probably the only moment in the game where you are genuinely fearful for the PCs safety.

Just this year DMC 5 was godlike.

From the dev's perspective it was a beta test that helped them develop the game into what their target audience wants.

The proper full was never exclusive. Supergiant said since the start that only the early access was EGS only. Read their FAQ in their developer site.

I don't think they care, they just want exclusives, ANY exclusives for any amount of time on their store
They have even asked indies for exclusives, and those that declined (due to promising a Steam release for example) but ask if they can release it both on Steam and Epic, would be declined by Epic, so they are clearly looking ONLY for exclusives, not trying to actually improve the store
