Speedrunning is the reason why Sonic even exists. Naka wanted a game where the more you played it, the faster you got, and made the games around that philosophy.

Bright colorful characters with simple to follow personalities, but not as one note as some other series, cool, anime-esque plots, it's been around for quite a while, and SEGA is pretty relaxed when it comes to fan content.

Colorful, cartoony characters that are so overly-expressive that even people with autism who don't understand social cues can follow along and enjoy it, especially since Sonic games disregard all physical logic and play like a Saturday morning cartoon akin to Teenage Mutant Ninja turtles. It's non-challenging, funny to the simple-minded, and it's full of bright colors and other shiny things that seek to distract from the game's lack of depth in both a mechanical and narrative sense.

It should be up there on youtube, but to be honest most of it is pretty boring, the only stand-out question from the QnA this year was "What if Sonic met the Joker from Batman?". Most of it was people trying to shill their own shit or figuratively shitting themselves on the mic. Last year's was way better, there was a kid who called out Cybershell and one who asked about Michael Jackson's involvement with Sonic 3 and Hyper Sonic.

Unlike adult Sonic fans, kids don't see a difference between Modern and Classic unless SEGA shoves it in their faces. Stuff like Nazo and sprite animations constantly adding in Hyper Sonic probably helps with this, too.

I wasn't really thinking of the modern classic divide, more just that it was nice to see a younger lad not fall for the "you can't react in time" meme and be interested in older games in general
