If you look at item descriptions and quest names, and especially the japanese versions of them, the symbolic implication isn't that xeno is from space, but rather from hell. Don't take this literally though. For instance "keeper of the otherworld" is "Charon's dark river" in jp. Charon's river being the river styx of course. And then we have the styx weapons. Jiiva means soul btw.

Wide GL benefits a lot from normal shelling to extend combos
Normal GL has the strongest full burst by far but weaker normal shelling
Long is an all rounder but can be built specifically for fast charged shells with Focus, if you want to do nothing but shoot
Or you can totally ignore shelling and just use the thing as a pure beatstick

Taikun Zamuza isn’t just the best Frontier monster, he’s among the best monsters in the entire series.

Lance is about precise attacks, positioning, and good reflexes for dodges/counters. It's much more similar to other blademaster weapon in terms of fundamentals.
Gunlance can be played in a similar manner, but you'll be relying on slow slams and swipes. What sets it apart from other blademaster weapons is shelling, which does flat damage to any part of the monster, meaning you don't have to worry so much about hitting weak zones or positioning. The 3 different types also have different playstyles.

Frontier is subscription based and those two were some of the only exclusives to Frontier at the time, so Frontier subscribers were pissed off because it meant they were paying a subscription for stuff that wasn’t even exclusive. Some of them speeches out majorly and Capcom decided to just not share monsters between the two games after that to keep subscribers. Frontier started getting post Freedom 2 monsters in 2013 but for some reason mainline never got any more Frontier monsters.

I'm actually debating if I should skip Iceborne because of how much The Handler is in the marketing and it makes it look like it's gonna same cinematic bullshit starring The Handler as World was.

I mean, in World, lance, gunlance and hh are pretty weak weapons (yeah, gl and hh are often weak weapons regardless of which game, I know), but gl and hh seem to be getting a number of buffs in iceborne, while lance isn't. Lance might be getting left behind.

Can someone tell me why I can't charge with the Lance in World sometimes? I noticed it while grinding the event Lavasioth, in the zone with the pools he starts out in, if I try to charge my Hunter stops after taking 2 steps, however when he moves downhill I can charge in that zone fine.
I can only assume the terrain has something to do with it, which is bizarre considering it's still relatively flat in that area.

I have zero clue. It's probably the same reason why the Raths keep coming back every fucking game. I would much rather have Gigginox and Uragaan too.

Frontier is dead now so there's a chance some of the monsters from it will be salvaged and brought over to mainline.

The only time I ever used SnS extensively was when I first played monhun with freedom 1. Left it behind when I got FU for the longsword and never went back until I started doing the arena quests in World for the divine slasher. I found myself shaking off little rust and getting good times overall, guess there's still a part of me that remembers how to use it.

One story goes that the first two Frontier monsters being imported into MHP2G/MHFU wasn't exactly a popular move by either the JP or the much long-dead KR MHF playerbases, which isn't too far-fetched seeing as that would pretty much defeat the purpose of their game in the first place. And it's also as likely that the mainline devs are much more willing to do technical advancements and gameplay changes around monsters they want to make, whereas MHF never truly left its MH2 roots. With monsters like Nargacuga and Zinogre becoming 'Exotics' in MHF-G it's a bit strange that the devs didn't really do more monster trading though.

It's also possible that Hypnoc + Lavasioth were traded for Tigrex + Akantor or were made by overlapping devs at the time.

user, marketing will always feature story and cutscenes. It makes even more sense for them to drag in "fan favourite" characters simply because they existed before.
Just wait for the game to release and then make a judgement on the game itself than pre-release material.

They dont have 100000 neon crystal spikes and they dont have special snowflake ED-tier superpowers that lets them dunk on other EDs. Ergo, they'll grounded and realistic by MH standards aside from the electro balls.

If you're taking about World, yes, it's alive. There's been plenty of new quests and some monsters added since launch, there's a few days of the event festival left so you can see what you may have missed out on

They’ve added a couple new monsters and some much harder versions of the endgame fights, but nothing truly essential. There’s two major crossovers they added that are worth playing at least once though, there’s a Final Fantasy one where you fight Behemoth in a multiplayer raid battle and a Witcher one where you play as Geralt and hunt a Leshen. Neither are particularly amazing imo but worth checking out. Online is still pretty active.

Extreme Style. Just that would make me buy Generations Ultimate again. There's also the 2 weapons exclusive to it, Magnet Spike and Tonfa. Those could be brought in. The active feature system would be great for getting people to shake up their playstyles and play more.

A fair deal of monsters from the earlier half of its life will fit in fine and actually do have some fun fights, just some touching up the designs would be sufficient. After all the game didn't have G-Rank for a long time.

That's their best strategy. They're much tinier than you and don't exactly have a concept of armor so their only choice is to make you not attack.

It's not about the believability, it's about if they're gonna be assed to add a gimmick ailment for a non-flagship

There's some items that are useful like Hot/Cold Wide Powders, Nearcasters, and Quick Whetstones. Length is a great mechanic but wouldn't fly in mainline with the clipping issues, and maybe simplified weapon sigils could work (changing shell types on GL, notes on HH, etc)

Tonfa could be an alright contemporary to IG and would arguably fit the aerial niche better. If we had the Earth or Storm moveset I think mainline people would dig the fuck out of it, the only problem is mounting unless the buildup for it was much lower. Magspike on the other hand kind of sees succession in the Clutch Claw and overall its moveset doesn't really fit the main series.

lance is in a really odd situation, the super armour and being a 'heavy' weapon in regards to the clutchclaw is really good and is possibly gonna make it the most reliable weakness creator, and that new damage buff on blocking weapons is good, but its not going to help balance the weapon as other weapons are able to use it, lance kinda just needs a small motion value buff, but with the website saying that its gonna reduce its elemental value i'm kinda worries its gonna be the junk weapon this time around

Actually, that brings something interesting to light. In MHDos, you could play as the monster in Arena fights. I tried to see if any code was leftover from this, and I managed to play as a Melynx in MHP3rd, but doing anything besides moving, using an item (would cause the melynx to growl) or attacking would crash the game. I know I can play as Felynes with Prowler but what about Brachydios or other monsters? Cheat Engine is blessed, btw.

Use the weapon you picked and items you have to hunt the monster. Collect the parts after having killed one and make better armor and weapons. It's the bread and butter of the series. It's very clunky at first but the game expects you to give commitment to attacks and not just blindly swing. Good luck, you'll learn a lot as you go by and you will still keep learning at the higher levels.

You play an MH game. Any is fine, but the Ultimate versions are the best. Freedom Unite has all the content from the first and second generation games, 3 Ultimate has almost all the content from the third generation games, 4 Ultimate has all the content from the fourth generation games and Generations Ultimate has the most content of all but is ridiculously unbalanced. World is a pretty good starting point too and about to get it’s expansion that puts it on par with the Ultimate games.

God Eater 2 was my first Hunterlike game and it was a blast until a developed a bullet the did 80k damage that I could spam turning the literal hardest/health spongiest boss into a puddle in under 2 minutes.

I played all God Eater games, but I honestly just wanted more weapons. I could never find a single weapon I truly enjoyed. Blade was shit, Buster was sorta okay, Short Blade was crap, Hammer was unusable, Scythe was not good, and Heavy Moon was the only weapon I truly liked even though it could use more movement.

Lance is good as is. Plus, they give extreme buffs to elemental and nerf raw, so that crit element/status lance might shine as in previous games.

...Then do that when you can. Usually, try comboing the notes for the songs you have, then encoring them. They'll last you like 5-10 minutes, 15-20 minutes with Horn Maestro. Then just infinite combo with everything you have once you're done.
My favorite thing was to see Tigrex fail to do a smooth turn and falls over. Just the 'oh shit my claws aren't digging in' and seeing him trip over is the most cartoony shit I've ever seen.

So, which note would HH's diagonal thrust play if it made it into mainline?

HH has virtually no true combos, so you just spam the triangle+circle attacks whenever you can. And when there's big enough opening you can play a 3-4 note song + encore. Forward-backward encores are longer but do more hits.

The only thing I don't like about CB is that phial system. If you keep attacking too much with Sword mode it'll go into a [CHARGE] state and every single one of your attacks will bounce off. If only the phials just stayed red and allowed you to pounce, that'd be way better, otherwise you're just wasting time that could've been used hitting the monster.

if you can keep up steady pace it does alright, 300-400 damage every 10 seconds.

even at peak efficiency it still under performs against other weapons. the only real thing it has going for it is that its consistent so you can rely on getting those slower TA times

Most weapons require you to commit to an attack so don't rush in there and button mash. Most monsters have moves that punish you if you aren't paying attention, so don't turn your brain off. Don't main any one weapon or damage type, monsters come in a lot of varieties and all have differing resistances and weaknesses, so build as many weapons as you need to cover them all. Same goes for armor, some armors will actually put you at a serious disadvantage against some monsters, the game has a robust loadout making system that lets you hot-swap all your gear in just a few seconds. Eat meals and manage your inventory and garden after missions.

Offensive Guard only effects "well timed" guards, it's not gonna effect HBG at all since the blocking is passive. And only CB and GL have mid combo blocking now but it's not as spammable as Lance's, if the buff doesn't last long they won't benefit as much.

Because P3rd harshly nerfed the returning monster and made them into complete joke which only fueled the idea that Tri ruined MH despite it was practically on part with the previous hr games.
This game was a cakewalk and the only redeeming addition was the return of missing weapon from Tri, sure the village and misty peak were comfy but the same goes as for most of the games.

Capturing simply gives you a better chance at rarer materials while reducing the chance for more common ones. If you want hides and scales fast, kill. If you need tails, plates and rubies, capture.

In previous games kill and capture had different loot tables. But in world they are identical and you get 2 extra rewards for capture so there's no reason to kill ever.

The game has been a fair source of contention for a long time for fair reason, but it's definitely seeing a bit more appreciation now with the more tamer end of monsters. In any case, 12 years of monsters and letting them go down the toilet is a waste, also the game having the best iteration of DB.

A lot of people here don't play the game and just see WebMs, so they don't know that. But I do think plenty can connect the dots with a sub-based game typically being more demanding in grind. For me especially, fuck Hunter Festival especially for gating decorations to one half of the userbase at a time.

If you mean the in game monster guide in world, it shows you breaks, carves, and quest rewards. There's no table in game for capture rewards. Which doesn't matter, since capture uses the carve table.

To my knowledge, Resident Evil Outbreak got reverse-engineered for private online servers and that work carried over to Monster Hunter G, which could potentially also be done with Dos and apparently even Tri. The number one English source for Frontier information however doesn't believe private servers are going to happen, and I doubt DDON too.
