>Spend years developing skills so you can work in a field with terrible working conditions.
>Have to work under shitty conditions.
Why do the people who work in the gaming industry still complain about this shit? They only have themselves to blame for deciding to get shitty jobs just because they like video games.

I guess they want to make vidya. Somebody has to, although the industry is filled to the brim at this point. Honestly, making vidya sounds like a huge ordeal to me. I got bored fast even when I tried making RPG Maker shit.
Maybe they shouldn't be shitty?
Don't bother trying to argue with Yea Forums about unions. They've already bought Porky's propaganda about game prices or SJW boogiemen and other horse shit.
And maybe everything else should also be perfect everywhere.
Literally who said anything about unions? If game devs want to unionize to get better conditions, good for them. But they should just shut up about it because they deliberately put in an insane amount of effort just so they could end up in a situation they knew was going to be shitty.
My vidya dev dream is just a couple of guys preferably friends renting a small office or some area to work and chill out in and make our dream game full of passion. No Todds no masters. I don't want anything to do with the industry
imagine being this much of a bootlicker
Are you seriously blaming the worker and not the company with shitty work conditions? Any job can be hard but that's no excuse to treat the worker like dirt above it, a company should always ensure good labor conditions. See Bioware and the whole Anthem fiasco that costed them so many developers because the higher ups were too busy jerking each other off for six years.
I literally did this for two years on a friend's payroll, and we scrapped the game simply because we couldn't get word of the game out without getting involved with the industry. It may seem like a good game will sell on its own, but unless you only want to sell ~10k copies then you at least have to suck some cocks for marketing.

My sweet summer child
it's left twitter mobbers who would have bitched about any system that wasn't an utopian communism structure with zero issues.
complaining and ruining their careers over it is a badge of honor for that archetype. the culture and clout of self flagellation. you get status by being a victim.
i agree these naive fuckers get everything they deserve
why not just work in IT (sans video games) for way better working conditions, regular paycheck and not being afraid to be fired after the game is done?
Left twitter is too busy trying to dab on each other about how they're the most esoteric form of leftism and becoming theorycels to do anything productive.
man, why are there poor people?
why can people just not argue and be perfectly along with each other?
why don't we instantly find the perfect lovelife match?
why do we sometimes not enjoy things?
why are people hungry sometimes?
why is there cancer?
maybe we should just, listen, just remove these things, so life would be better. that's my opinion.
The only fun in game dev is being a creative director or writer.
>to do anything productive.
yeah that's why these people are most often either indie devs making pretentious non-games or codemonkeys/Q&A bottom level failures.
>mfw I'm studying computer science with the hopes that I might get into game development
Learning how to make vidya and getting paid for it sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.
Here's a tip: keep your CV online.
Alright, I'll bite; why should I do this?
Have fun working 14 hour days before the release of some random sports game.
>work as a texture artist
>get hired to work as a texture artist with standard industry salary
>complain on Twitter about capitalism in the industry and that you don't make as much money as the guy who leads the project, has had the idea and outlined the whole project, as well as hired you just to do that one job.
Its the same kind factory workers are still trying to this day.
>gee why do I, a guy hired to apply stickers, only get sticker applying money, while the guy owning the factory is getting rich!?
Brainless knuckleheads trying to leech off people that made it.
>Industry makes more money than music and movies multiple times over
>Has less production value than either due to crunch and publishers bullshit
>Treats people like garbage and works them to the point of mental breaks
>Full of narcissist leads that fuck over employees and steal from them
>Has actual experts whose sole job is to figure out mechanics to get you addicted and waste money
>Completely dedicated to ensuring that consumers have no rights in a games as a service model
It's not that they can't afford to do better. It's that you keep buying their shit while the workers allow themselves to be human punching bags
Brainlet here. What’s stopping game companies from outsourcing their work when game developers unionize? Wouldn’t that become the cheaper and quicker option if unionization were to happen?
I'm in college for game design and I know the working conditions are shit, but the money is good and it's something I'm good at. My classmates on the other hand all don't know what they're doing and should be shot.
Outrage pretty much. Imagine games with 3 dollar an hour pajeet code and what it would cost to fix it.
Yeah fuck trying to make anything better just shut up and be a corporate drone lol.
Don't call others children when you barely have a grasp of the English language.
>Brainlet here. What’s stopping game companies from outsourcing their work when game developers unionize?
The hordes of fresh grads beating down the door to be scabs. Unionizing isnt really an option when every guy that threatens to quit has 5 guys behind him willing to put up with it for his (highly romanticized) dream job
Call me when you can make a union work without forcing everyone to join and give you their money.
Until then suck my dick.
