it's so infuriating how bad the 13 games were.
i mean at it's lowest, final fantasy didn't have as bad writing as what 13-2 and 13-3 were.
those two games were just so horrible and thats saying so much after how bad 13 was.
ive always found any final fantasy to be somewhat fun, but these games just made me mad.

FFX was the beginning of the end, fuck that game. Retarded story, awful characters, disgusting visual design, streamlined cinematic bullshit. Music was good though, as is the case with (almost) every FF.

Front Mission was if you stop at 5 which was the intended end point. Aside from 4 which was subpar, they're all good game with a mature storyline tying it together. It got 2 live action movies and multiple novels, manga and radio dramas from talented writers that were all also canon and incorporated into the games. It's one of the most complete franchises I can think of.

Of course Square didn't even try to bring it to the west aside from 3 and a late port of 1 to the DS. They sure did try to reboot it for americans with Evolved which was dogshit and outsourced. Then Left Alive came out that most people didn't even know was a Front Mission game and that was dogshit despite being made by a literal team of legends.

FF6 = FF9 = FF7 > FF4 > FF5 > FF12 > FF8 > FF3 > FF10 > FF2 = FF1 > the shit under my shoe > FF15 > FF13 (trilogy)

I don't count the MMOs or the Tactics games because they're too different to directly compare them.

While 5 has the great class system I fear it lacks in every other department compared to 4, it just isn't that "smooth" of an experience in my eyes. FF1 is too old now and was a hassle to play sometimes even back in release days, FF2 and especially 3 have aged much better. Fuck 10.

What is this based on? Purely sales-wise the Final Fantasy franchise is bigger than the Legend of Zelda franchise. Pokemon and Mario blow both out of the water though. I feel like Zelda fans always overrate their series though.

For a role-playing game, the RPG mechanics have gotten worse and worse each game while the stories have been badly written since the PS3 era.
It might have been great in its prime, but it's certainly no "greatest", even when compared to other RPGs.

Slow as fuck engine, trance was utter garbage, Freya was forgotten after disc 1 and characters like Amarant and Eiko were tacked on at best, the story loses charm after SAVE THE WORLD becomes the focus, etc.
It's good but far from great.

It's exactly the same, it's the way the game was written. The best you can do is raise the battle speed with emulation hacks, but it's not a true fix.

You can't hate FF9 and praise FF4 at the same time. They are pretty much the exact same game.
