>Where did it all go wrong
Launch, arguably before that
>What was the point of no return?
Either Higby leaving or Werl getting hired
Do people still play?
It was doomed from the start but the Crown nerfs were the death knell
This. It went wrong from its very conception. Having 3 factions tripled development cost and effort and just resulted in a majority of guns being very similar or ns weapons. It also didn't fix the issue of one side getting shat on by the other(s) as people would expect to happen if it were 1 factions vs another.
1 vs 1 is cringe
>Having 3 factions tripled development cost and effort
Imagine thinking that shit.
How did games do it back then when there was no cross-faction unlock and factions actually meant something?
Were games 2 times harder to make and cost twice more?
No no no not what I meant
Sony rushed SOE to get the game done way before initial plans and forced them to release early without half the shit they wanted to add
It was rigged from the start
More of this, SOE really didn't know what the players wanted (protip: it wasnt e-sports)
Players wanted a massive war simulator, with lots of explosions, big fights, massive charges, patriotic music and waving flags of victory
So they removed faction flavor, dulled colors, and removed emblems in favor of shitty cosmetics that killed the vibe of the game because the "top players" wanted it like that
Fuck T-Ray, fuck VS, and Fuck reddit
Planetside 3 when
Letting Chinese players in. Not making a server in Hong Kong.
Better than 2v1
Inb4 tr victim complex
Fuck you
Here you bro, enjoy.
>inb4 tr victim complex
Why do you faggots give yourselves out like this?
>Release date: Jan 19th
Lmao, what happened? It's been radio silence
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK I FORGOT ABOUT THAT FUCK YOU NIGGER
Fuck why
Back in the day, some people were more patriotic about their fake MMO faction than they were their real countries.
I miss those days.
I also miss when drop podding meant something, or when you could bring vehicles and equipment from your off-map home base.
fpbp
All they had to do was copy/paste PlanetSide 1 and its various systems, especially the implant system.
They could've kept inventories and weapon scavenging. They could've made sure that everyone was limited to one or two specific class builds. They could've designed bases correctly so that proper defense and infiltration was possible and sensible.
Every single fucking step of the way they looked at the good choices that worked for PS1 and then said "No we're not doing that"
>some people were more patriotic about their fake MMO faction than they were their real countries
Vanu weren't
youtu.be
>Vehicle timers in ps1 helped prevent vehicle spam
>dude what if in ps2 people could pull vehicles virtually wherever and whenever they want as long as they got nanites
I miss my old outfit bros
If anyone from [FXHD] is out there, I hope you're doing well
i never have a problem with it though it sucks for new people
>yeaaa taking over bases woooo!!!!
>OH FUCK HERE COMES A ROCKET POD SPAM COUNTERATTACK
god it was so fun
They made battlefield instead of an actual war game
Can we get a Planetside Classic, just update the graphics and here we go.
>What was the point of no return?
I still it from time to time. There is nothing like it out there.
Then you remember the shit gunplay in PS1
Did anyone else play in Mountain Madness on Watterson in 2013? Peak fun. I haven't had more enjoyment in vidya since. Glory to Papa Vanu.
Yeah, it encouraged you to stay the fuck put and not zerg around like a retard playing like he's going to get a fucking killstreak. Is your next statement going to be about how "terrible" being stuck at a bridge on cyssor for 4 hours was too?
>2013
>it's now 2019
holy fuck its been that long?
No I'm just saying that both games had their own strengths and weaknesses and even though PS1 is older and OLD = GOOD PS2 had way better actual shooting
the saddest part is the game was like that during open beta and for a few months after.
there were actually 3 resources, one for aircraft spawning, one for vehicle spawning and one for infantry items. resource gain was also tied to bases, so targeting a base for capture would net you more resources per tick if you captured it. as long as you lived long enough or rotated your spawns you could continue to play as whatever you liked, and being a passenger was always possible. this effectively functioned as 3 spawn timers with a reserve.
they never balanced the prices and people complained.
then it underwent a pointless name change from resource-like names, to direct "this for that" names.
then just simple removal and turned to mono-cost nanites.
i miss planetside 2
>had way better actual shooting
And worse literally anything MMO related
Yeah it's highlights were kino, as we're the bantz, but they really fucked it up.
when they decided to make battlefield but call it planetside
youtube.com
There was a lot wrong with the game fundamentally, but if the game would've stayed mostly as it was in its 2015 state then I think they could've easily sustained for another ten years.
Then Bandanaman happened.
Yeah, not gonna disagree
Planetside logistics is ass
the complete lack of ambient or contextual music in PS2 is incredibly fucking depressing.
you basically never hear faction themes, it's to the point where PS2 turns into a fucking meme "soul vs soulless"
Not using the system from PS1 where ANTs were required to supply bases for defense.
Redeployside.
A lack of meaningful faction differences.
Same
/ps2g/ was ny favorite general
Before they ever started making it. The first design meeting where they decided it would be a F2P Battlefield clone with a Planetside skin instead of a sequel to Planetside.
Not fixing the fundamental problems, adding in crappy basebuilding and more monetized P2W guns instead. Saddest thing is both the fundamental problems would've been easy fixes if they would've just taken ideas from first Planetside (supply trucks) and in case of artillery they wouldve taken ideas from Quakewars: Enemy Territory.
In short they needed to give more incentives to flank and fight in open fields because too many fights just boiled down to quickly rushing a base, then twiddling your thumbs while you spawncamp the defenders. Supply trucks for defence would've given the attackers new avenue to cripple enemy base, while artillery would've given defenders a new tool to isolate some areas and make defending a little bit easier.
They ruined it when they ruined the Crown.
I would fight at the crown for 8 hours go to sleep wake up and still be fighting at the crown 24 hours later.
The giant 3 way battles held at that place will forever be fond memories to me.
The moment they thought BF3 was a good game to emulate.
In the very beginning when they launched an MMO with no contingency plan.
It's funny because Battlefield suffered the same fate.
Feels like barebones no fun allowed garbage.
Smedly
I've been playing it recently and I don't know why I continue to bother.
Only hyper autists that will fucking slaughter you because of their gear advantages.
The whole game is a museum of wasted potential.
>have fancy carrier ship model filed away for years
>could've have carrier ops and have an implement a logistics system around it
>lol battlebus rember 2 thnk bus driver xDDD
Remember when it was possible to tell what faction someone was on based purely on looking at them and you didn't have to mash Q to spot someone before shooting them lest you accidentally shoot a teammate because everyone is wearing full body pink gimpsuits now?
My butt is still hurt
>when they thought instant death ttk was ok for a game with hundreds of people per side
>when they made every character able to have every cert if they grinded forever or shelled out money
>when implants became a microtransaction rather than simple enhancements everyone can use
>when the game lacks all logistics and devolved into zerg rush after zerg rush
>when factional weaponry and vehicles amounted to little more than different coats of paint
I believe it was T-ray who said it best. PS1 was an mmo with a bit of fps in it. PS2 is an fps with a bit of mmo in it.
I still play for them vanu spandex asses and big battles with tug of war.
no colourblind options
is there any reason to try this again?
>planetside 1 had ""bad gunplay""
explain why each faction's namesake gun is still memorable even today. i can still pull their audio from memory
the fucking minigun, jackhammer and that VS laserball splasher gun were some of the most entertaining things to ever kill people with. i'll never forget the absolute base rape that the VS gun would cause when you rushed a full squad in with them, hallways became total deathtraps for the enemy
hell even most of the power armor weapons were extremely entertaining - like gunning down airships with the TR flak cannon arms, then you've got the grenade launchers with like 4+ different types of grenade munitions to switch between, then there's the fucking godlike feeling of getting good with the super-pistols that some of the stealthers used and..
yeah i think you're full of shit
