If think about it MMOs should support all playstyles. The goal of an MMO should be to create a dynamic online world where players have the freedom to become whoever they want. Just like IRL you should be able to have large groups, small groups, or loners. Each with there own pros and cons. Fight A might be simple for a large group but it wont be very rewarding once you split all the loot, however a very skilled and clever lone wolf should be able tackle it given enough time.
A good mmo will find ways to support all of these playstyles. MMOs are basically glorified multiplayer lobby games where you are forced into groups to complete anything meaningful (dungeons, raids, etc).
Everybody cries how modern MMOs are so bad because they are like single player games but the blackpill is that they couldnt be more wrong. Modern MMOs suck because they do nothing to support the lone wolves. Solo content in MMOs is mind numbingly easy, simple, and boring. Most gamers are anti-social (if they werent they wouldnt be wasting their lives on video games) and they dont care for guilds. The only reason they join is get access to content that requires groups.
Just look at classic wow, the upcoming new (old) mmo coming out next week. It's widely accepted that the best part of the game is the leveling experience. And guess what? You can level solo or in group.
